Under certain circumstance, premixed turbulent flame can be treated as wrinkled thin laminar flame and its motion in a hydrodynamic flow field has been investigated by employing G-equation. Past studies on G-equation successfully described certain aspects of laminar flame propagation such as effects of stretch on flame speed. In those studies, flames were regarded as a passive interface that does not influence the flow field. The experimental evidences, however, indicate that flow field can be significantly modified by the propagation of flames through the volume expansion of burned gas. In the present study, a new method to be used with G -equation is described to include the effect of volume expansion in the flame dynamics. The effect of volume expansion on the flow field is approximated by Biot-Savart law. The newly developed model is validated by comparison with existing analytical solutions of G -equation to predict flames propagating in hydrodynamic flow field without volume expansion. To further investigate the influence of volume expansion, present method was applied to initially wrinkled or planar flame propagating in an imposed velocity field and the average flame speed was evaluated from the ratio of flame surface area and projected area of unburned stream channel. It was observed that the initial wrinkling of flame cannot sustain itself without velocity disturbance and wrinkled structure decays into planar flame as the flame propagates. The rate of decay of the structure increased with volume expansion. The asymptotic change in the average burning speed occurs only with disturbed velocity field. Because volume expansion acts directly on the velocity field, the average burning speed is affected at all time when its effect is included. With relatively small temperature ratio of 3, the average flame speed increased 10%. The combined effect of volume expansion and flame stretch is also considered and the result implied that the effect of stretch is independent of volume release.

In this paper, we consider the synthesis of non-fragile $H_{\infty}$ state feedback controllers for singular systems and static state feedback controller with multiplicative uncertainty. The sufficient condition of controller existence, the design method of non-fragile $H_{\infty}$ controller, and the measure of non-fragility in controller are presented via LMI(linear matrix inequality) technique. Also, the sufficient condition can be rewritten as LMI form in terms of transformed variables through singular value decomposition, some changes of variables, and Schur complements. Therefore, the obtained non-fragile $H_{\infty}$ controller guarantees the asymptotic stability and disturbance attenuation of the closed loop singular systems within a prescribed degree. Moreover, the controller design method can be extended to the problem of robust and non-fragile $H_{\infty}$ controller design method for singular systems with parameter uncertainties. Finally, a numerical example is given to illustrate the design method.

In this paper, we propose and analyze a multiuser receiver using a decorrelating filter and Viterbi decoders for trellis coded DS/CDMA systems with biorthgonal signal constellation in asynchronous channels. The biorthogonality is implemented by user signature waveforms and the decorrelating filter. The performance of the proposed system is investigated with emphasis on the asymptotic cases. It is shown that the proposed system can provide us with some coding gain and near-far resistance. We also analyze the performance of the proposed system with base-station antenna array.

Semi-supervised learning makes it easy to use an unlabeled data in the supervised learning such as classification. Applying the semi-supervised learning on the regression analysis, we propose two methods for a better regression function estimation. The proposed methods have been assumed different marginal densities of independent variables and different smoothing parameters in unlabeled and labeled data. We shows that the overfitted pilot estimator should be used to achieve the fastest convergence rate and unlabeled data may help to improve the convergence rate with well estimated smoothing parameters. We also find the conditions of smoothing parameters to achieve optimal convergence rate.

It is well known that the asymptotic convergence rates of nonparametric regression estimator gets worse as the dimension of covariates gets larger. One possible way to overcome this problem is reducing the dimension of covariates by using single index models. Two coefficient estimation methods in single index models are introduced. One is semiparametric least square estimation method, which tries to find approximate solution by using iterative computation. The other one is weighted average derivative estimation method, which is non-iterative method. Both of these methods offer the parametric convergence rate to normal distribution. However, practical comparison of these two methods has not been done yet. In this article, we compare these methods by examining the variances of estimators in various models.

Cobalt was electrodeposited onto chemical vapor deposition (CVD) graphene/Si/$SiO_2$ substrates, during different time intervals, using an electrolyte solution containing a low concentration of cobalt sulfate. The intention was to investigate the details of the deposition process (and the dissolution process) and the resulting magnetic properties of the Co deposits on graphene. During and after electrodeposition, in-situ magnetic measurements were performed using an (AGFM). These were followed by ex situ morphological analysis of the samples with ${\Delta}t_{DEP}$ 30 and 100 s by atomic force microscopy in the non-contact mode on pristine CVD graphene/$SiO_2$/Si. We demonstrate that it is possible to electrodeposit Co onto graphene, and that in-situ magnetic measurements can also help in understanding details of the deposition process itself. The results show that the Co deposits are ferromagnetic with decreasing coercivity ($H_C$) and demonstrate increasing magnetization on saturation ($M_{SAT}$) and electric signal proportional to remanence ($M_r$), as a function of the amount of the electrodeposited Co. It was also found that, after the end of the dissolution process, a certain amount of cobalt remains on the graphene in oxide form (this was confirmed by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy), as suggested by the magnetic measurements. This oxide tends to exhibit a limited asymptotic amount when cycling through the deposition/dissolution process for increasing deposition times, possibly indicating that the oxidation process is similar to the graphene surface chemistry.

Very long life fatigue tests were carried out on 16Mn steel base metal and its welded joint by using the ultrasonic fatigue testing technique. Specimen shapes (round and plate) were considered for both the base metal and welded joint. The results show that the specimens present different S-N curve characteristics in the region of $10^5-10^9$ cycles. The round specimens showed continuously decreasing tendency while plate specimens showed a steep decreasing step and an asymptotic horizontal one. The fatigue strength of round specimen was found higher than plate specimen. The fatigue strength of as-welded joint was 45.0% of the base material for butt joint and 40% for cruciform as-welded joint. It was found that fracture can still occur in butt joint beyond $5{\times}10^6$ cycles. The cruciform joint has a fatigue limit in the very long life fatigue regime ($10^7-10^9$ cycles). Fatigue strength of butt as-welded joint was much higher as compared to cruciform as-welded joint. Improvement in fatigue strength of welded joint was found due to UPT. The observation of fracture surface showed crack mainly initiated from welded toe at fusion areas or geometric discontinuity sites at the surface in butt joint and from welded toe in cruciform joint.
We studied and compared the age structure, body size, and growth rates of field populations of two Korean salamander species (Hynobius yangi and Hynobius quelpaertensis) to elucidate important aspects of basic population dynamics of these two endemic Hynobius species. In both populations, females were sexually mature at three years of age, while H. yangi and H. quelpaertensis males matured at two and three years of age, respectively. Both males and females of H. yangi and H. quelpaertensis attained a maximum age of 11 years and 10 years, respectively. In both species, the snout-vent length (SVL) and body weight (BW) of the females were greater than those of the males. The SVL, BW, and asymptotic SVL of both male and female H. yangi were smaller than those of H. quelpaertensis. The adult growth rates after sexual maturation of male and female H. yangi were lower than those of H. quelpaertensis, possibly resulting in the smaller body size of the former, although overall growth coefficients were not significantly different between the two species. We also compared the age structure and growth rates of three Korean and three Japanese species of Hynobius.

Diffraction patterns of electromagnetic fields for the incidence of E-polarized plane wave on both interfaces of an arbitrary-angle dielect wedge are obtained by sum of geometric optics term and the edge diffracted fields. The diffraction coefficients of the edge diffracted fields are evaluated by employing the physical optics approximation and then correcting its error with the multipole line source at the dielectric edge. For the wedge angle $120^{circ}$, the incident angle $60^{circ}$, the relative dielectric constant of the dielectric wedge, 2, 5, and 10, and the observation distance from the tip of the wedge, 5 and 10 wavelength, the diffraction coefficients and the diffraction patterns corresponding to geometric optics, physical optics, and the solution corrected by the multipole line source are plotted, respectively. While the corrected solutions presented in this paper are valid only in the far-field region, these asymptotic solutions show to satisfy the boundary condition on the dielectric interfaces.

In this paper, a finite element technique is applied to the prediction of the wave resonance phenomena in harbors. The mild-slope equation is used with a partial reflection boundary condition introduced to model the energy dissipating effects on the solid boundary. For an efficient modeling of the radiation condition at infinity, a new infinite element is developed. The shape function of the infinite element is derived from the asymptotic behavior of the first kind of the Hankel's function in the analytical boundary series solutions. For the computational efficiency, the system matrices of the element are constructed by performing the relevant integrations in the infinite direction analytically. Comparisons with the results from experiments and other solution methods show that the present model gives fairly good results. Numerical experiments are also carried out to determine the proper distance to the infinite elements from the mouth of the halter, which directly affect the accuracy and efficiency of the solution.
