This study reveals that the user industry has a limited role as a source of technological capability in the case of the machine tools in Korea where the user industry is relatively mope advanced than other capital goods industry. The study examined the sources of technological capability in terms of migration of workforce and flow of product design information. Although the capital goods sector is generally regarded as being the sector where the user producer interaction is important the user industry failed to be the seed-bed of technological capability to develop machines. This study argues that this finding could have implications to the specificity of capital goods in a developing country.

During the last a few decades, internationalisation of universities has emerged as an important issue not only in developed countries but in developing countries. South Korea as a fast catch-up country has experienced a remarkable change in its higher education system. This change is largely related to the South Korean government's higher education policy and to economic developmental stages. Against this backdrop, in order to assess the internationalisation of Korean higher education, we focus on international student mobility rather than other criteria such as infrastructure or programmes for international students and faculties. According to the recent statistics, the number of inbound foreign students involved in Korean higher education has increased significantly since 2005. Nevertheless, compared to other OECD and Asian countries, the number of outbound students in Korean higher education is high, whereas the number of inbound foreign students in higher education in Korea is very low. Against these observations, Korean government's recent policies and efforts of Korean universities to improve internationalization are discussed. Finally, some policy implications are put forward.

In a rapidly changing environment of international trade, the purpose of this study is to examine economic benefits and losses of each country involved in the negotiation on the Free Trade Agreement (FTA) in Northeast Asia and to prepare strategies for the negotiation in the FTA between Korea and China. Previous researches on FTA have been made mainly from the macroeconomic perspective. The approach in this study is a combination of regulatory, reviewing regulations, and economic making quantitative analysis of the economic effects of FTA, which are the basic background of FTA. In economic analysis, I estimated the macroscopic economic effects of FTA by examining the effects of FTA on the trade balance, GDP and production of focal countries through the Computable General Equilibrium(CGE) model using GTAP data set.

Tourism development stimulates job creation and the development of other sectors of the economy. More than 30 sectors of the economy are connected to tourism. It distributes resources between sectors and stimulates of development of such sectors like transport, communications, services, trade, construction, and the production of consumer goods. All these increase the importance of tourism as well as forecasting it by analyzing the demand. This study is a review on inbound tourism of Uzbekistan. The study will examine regression analysis as an effective tool that plays an important role as well as in the field of tourism demand analysis. In this study, firstly the estimating tourism demand is explained, secondly, the regression analysis is examined as an estimating tool of tourism demand. The paper includes a country study dedicated to the Tourism market of Uzbekistan. Nevertheless, the forecast on the inbound tourism of Uzbekistan was developed by using some statistical data.

We introduce the statistical system of the Commonwelth Independence State(CIS) countries located in the Central Asia. At present, the level of the national statistics production system of Korean National Statistical Office(NSO) is very high and locate on just behind Japan among all asian countries, and they are also trying to reach the statistics quality level upto the advanced developed countries in the world. To have the optimal Statistics production processing, we must understand the methodologies parts as well as the aspect of the macro statistics that can be applied to the country#s economic plan. Like the history is repeated, it is valuable to look at the development history of statistical system of other countries one century ago. We study the relationship among CIS countries along with the history of Russian statistics development. It will be helpful to look and understand the statistical system of CIS countries including Russia to use their statistics for international comparison study.

Very few studies have been done on Studying Brand credibility and Involvement as a determinant of Brand Equity. Literature on Brand Equity signifies lots of constructs like, Country of Origin, Brand Signaling, and Brand Power act as determinant to Brand Equity. This study tries to formulate relationship between the construct Brand Credibility and Brand Involvement as Antecedents to Brand Equity of Product. Using a Two Step Structural Equation Modelling approach analysis on the data collected on Mobile Phone brands were done. Result signified that Brand Credibility and Brand Involvement had significant influence on Brand Equity of the Product. On the Other hand there was no significant relationship between Brand Credibility and Brand Involvement of the Product.

The orbit and frequency spectrum allocation for the communication and broadcasting satellite services are coordinated between the concerned parties according to the Radio Regulations of International Telecommunication Union (ITU). Currently, the geostationary orbit is filled with too many satellites for the commercial or military uses. In addition, a number of near earth satellite programs are being introduced. As each country claims for the space orbit and spectrum, the limited space resources are being exhausted. In this paper, the current situations in the worldwide satellite orbit demand are discussed, and some ideas on the peaceful, efficient and equitable use of space resources are proposed.

The trend towards ageing populations has been observed over many years in Europe and the US but has accelerated significantly in developed countries in Asia including Japan and South Korea. In the latter country the elderly population (65+) has increased 5-fold between 1960 and 2000 and this group will comprise 40% of the population by 2050. This creates a new socio-economic group with specific demands and considerable spending power. As ageing occurs a range of changes occur in the body that can be moderated by adjustments in nutrition. A significant body of evidence points to changes in the balance of glutathione synthesis and utilisation as people age. Glutathione is tile most important natural anti-oxidant of the body and the amounts present can become limited by available cysteine in the diet. A cysteine-enriched peptide product, Cysteine Peption$^{TM}$ has been developed by DMV International for dietary supplement and food applications. A qualitative consumer trial has indicated benefits including improved sleep and more energy. Animal and clinical trial will be described that provide indications on bioavailability and possible mechanisms of action of Cysteine Peption$^{TM}$ with particular focus on the ageing population.

The increasing price of liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) has forced many households to shift to firewood/charcoal in the Philippines, causing tremendous pressure on the dwindling forest. This transition is more obvious in the rural area where firewood price is almost half of that in the cities. Both problems on big demand for firewood and the pressure on our forest can be partly solved by going into firewood plantation. After all, the country has vast track of idle lands, both private and government lands, waiting to be developed. What the government can do are: a) aggressive promotion of firewood plantation, b) simplify further the old technology on establishing firewood plantation to encourage more farmers, c) improve charcoal processing and d) promote the use of efficient stoves. This write up discusses the need for firewood plantation, areas available for planting, where to plant in farms, what species to plant in a particular soil type/location for optimum growth, planting methods, harvesting, marketing, and the side lights on the ecological benefits derived from plantation aside from wood.

Common system deployment is one of the global information systems strategies of a multinational corporation for large-scale development that can provide economies of scale and optimal use of scarce technical expertise. But while the same (headquarter) team implements the same system, the resulting efficiencies of those projects differ widely among the subsidiaries. This paper focuses on the differences between the efficiencies of these implementation projects. Eight prepropositions about the factors causing the differences have been developed from the previous research. These prepropositions are explored through a case study on the twelve overseas subsidiaries of a multinational electronic corporation headquartered in Korea. We found that three factors(autonomy of subsidiary, complexity of task, experience level of users) have strong relevant relationships and two factors(level of subsidiary country, level of process formality) have partial relevant relationships with the implementation outcome.
