  • When tooth grinding occurs, electrical stimulation is given at the same time, and tooth grinding stops on such stimulation. Electromyography signals are used as control signals of electrical stimulation to disturb tooth grinding. However because of the electrical stimulation, the M-waves are generated and mixed with spontaneous electromyogram. In this study, we designed an optimal filter to remove M-wave and conserve spontaneous electromyogram simultaneously. The inverse power method (IPM) showed that the optimal filter coefficient is the eigenvector corresponding to the minimum eigenvalue of the input covariance matrix. In order to evaluate the performance of the optimal filter, we compared using a conventional band pass filter and adaptive filter using least mean square algorithm. The experimental results show that the optimal filter can effectively remove the M-wave compared to the previously studied prediction error filter.

  • This paper proposes a new method to measure the ECG signal from the driver. The ECG signal is often measured in the room. But it is mixed with many kinds of noise when we measure it during the vehicle moving. We classified noise occupied most many parts as the experimental among them. And we designed one suitable filter for each noise. It used ALE(Adaptive Line Enhancement) to remove the noise occurred to electromagnetic wave in vehicle. To remove the noise occurred to steering or vibration of vehicle, we used Wavelet transformation after ALE(preprocessing filter).

  • A current subtraction technique with parallel operation system is proposed to remove excessive current in touch screen application. The proposed current subtraction remove the current which go into the input node of charge amplifier. The value of subtraction current is same with current when touch screen is not touched. As a result, charge amplifier output is only proportional to variation of mutual capacitor, which make dynamic rage is increased. Also, Transmitter (Tx) driving signal and subtraction driving signal are out of phase each other. Thus, noise generated in Tx is cancelled. The proposed IC is implemented in a mixed-mode 0.18-um CMOS process. Overall system is designed for touch screen panel (TSP) with 16 driving lines and 8 sensing lines. 5-V supply voltages are used in the proposed circuits. For multiple Tx driving signal, Walsh codes are used and signal frequency is 300 khz. By using proposed technique, dynamic rage is improved 36 dB.

  • A study on relation of angiogenesis and blood stagnation in cancer was done, and the results were as follows. 1. Angiogenesis is a sequence of vascular proliferation and accomplished by regulation of anti-angiogenesis factor and indicating factor. These factors are secreted in the course of blood coagulation, inflammation, and regeneration. 2. Angiogenesis in cancer is a important action in growth of tumor and metastasis because it supply oxygen and nutrition. 3. The complicated processes, for example, platelet coagulation, action of coagulator factor & dissolution factor and interaction of variety factors are related to blood stasis and promoting blood circulation to remove blood stasis in oriental medicine. 4. Promoting blood circulation to remove blood stasis is expected to suppress angiogenesis, and we expect advanced study will be accomplished in future.

  • In this paper, we propose an adaptive blocking artifact reduction algorithm using characteristics of the block boundaries. Blocking artifacts contain the high frequency components near the block boundaries, so the lowpass filtering can remove them. But a simple lowpass filtering results into blurring by remove important features such as edges. To overcome this problem, we determine the modes depending on the characteristics around boundaries then proper filter is applied to each area. Simulation results show that the proposed method improves deblocking performance compared to that of MPEG-4.

  • In the process of the acquisition, storage, transmission of signals, noises are generated by various causes and the degradation phenomenon by noises tends to generate serious errors for the signal with information. So, in order to analyze and remove these noises, studies on numerous mathematical methods such as the Fourier transform have been implemented. And recently there have been many ongoing wavelet-based denoising algorithms representing excellent characteristics in time-frequency localization and multiresolution analysis, but the method to remove additive white Gaussian noise (AWGN) and the impulse noise simultaneously was not given. So, to reconstruct the corrupted signal by noises, in this paper a novel wavelet-based denoising algorithm was proposed and using signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) this method was compared to conventional methods.

  • The purpose of this study is to remove the organics, nitrogen and phosphorus using biosorption for the domestic sewage. The new process using biosorption is based on the methods of contact-stabilization, which remove the organics by absorbing them to the surface of the microorganism in the activated sludge. This process consists of biosorption reactor, biosorption clarifier, nitrifying reactor, nitrifying clarifier, denitrifying reactor, phosphorus uptake(polishing) reactor and final clarifier. The efficiency of removal could be reached 91% for organics, 76% for nitrogen, 90% for phosphorus in Eujungbu pilot plant. We operated the plant which irrigated $10m^3$ per day for sewage. During our operation the HRT(Hydraulic Retention time) was maintained for 10.5hr, but it could be reduced as 8.5hr according to our operation results.

  • Coal is the most abundant fossil fuel on Earth and is used in a wide range of applications. The direct combustion of high-sulfur coal produces a large amount of sulfur dioxide, which is a toxic and corrosive gas. A new superconducting high gradient magnetic separation (HGMS) technology was studied to remove sulfur from high sulfur coal. The magnetic separation concentrate was obtained under the optimum parameters, such as a particle size of -200 mesh, a magnetic field strength of 2.0 T, a slurry concentration of 15 g/L, and a slurry flow rate of 600 ml/min. The removal rate of sulfur is up to 59.9%. The method uses a magnetic field to remove sulfur-containing magnetic material from a pulverized coal solution. It is simple process with, high efficiency, and is a new way.

  • In many astrophysical systems, smooth large-scale variations coexist with small-scale fluctuations. For example, a large-scale velocity or density gradient can exist in molecular clouds that have small-scale fluctuations by turbulence. In redshifted 21cm observations, we also have two types of signals - the Galactic foreground emissions that change smoothly and the redshifted 21cm signals that fluctuate fast in frequency space. In many cases, the large-scale variations make it difficult to extract information on small-scale fluctuations. We propose a simple technique to remove smooth large-scale variations. Our technique relies on multi-point structure functions and can obtain the magnitudes of small-scale fluctuations. It can also be used to design filters that can remove large-scale variations and retrieve small-scale data. We discuss how to apply our technique to irregularly spaced data, such as rotation measure observations toward extragalactic radio point sources.

  • There is a need for a method that can effectively remove wastewater containing small-sized particles such as TiO2. In this study, we attempted to remove TiO2 wastewater using electrocoagulation-electroflotation two-step separation. The TiO2 wastewater was effectively removed via batch electrocoagulation-electroflotation separation. However, in the batch process, the simultaneous operation of electrocoagulation and electoflotation was challenging due to the high residual turbidity. In the continuous operation, electrocoagulation and electoflotation reactors were kept separate. The turbidity removal in continuous operation was similar to that in the batch process, nevertheless, the residual Al concentration was high, leading to the conclusion that counterterm ensures against residual Al were necessary.
