  • Super engineering plastic(SEP) are applied to high performance and high value industries due to their excellent mechanical properties and high continuous operating temperature. Among them, PES and PEI are amorphous SEPs, and have the advantages of high flexibility, mechanical properties, transparency, and thermal stability. In this study, polyethersulfone(PES) and polyetherimide(PEI) fibers were manufactured to produce flame retardant artificial hair. PES and PEI fibers prepared through a melt-spinning process at a high temperature of 360 to 420℃. They are compared with commercial artificial hair by thermal gravimetric analysis(TGA), linear density, tenacity, and limited oxygen index(LOI) analysis. PES and PEI fibers have similar linear density and tenacity to commercial artificial hair, while their thermal stability and flame retardant are excellent. In particular, flame retardant was analyzed through LOI value and PES was 35.1%, which is superior to commercial artificial hair PET/Br(28.2%) and PET/P(20.2%). Therefore, PES and PEI are suitable as artificial hair for flame retardant.

  • The objective of this study was to investigate the effect of the short-term weathering on the flame retardant performance of wood coated with Dancheong. Flame retardants were applied on the Dancheong coated Korean red pine. Flame retardants applied panels were layed at the two conditions of outdoor exposure and artificial aging to assess the reliability of artificial aging. Flame retardants used were commercial products developed for historical wooden buildings. Scanning electron micrographs revealed the forming of carbonized membrane by melting of flame retardant on wood surface. These carbonized membranes may help delay the further combustion of wood. Flame retardant performance was assessed by measuring heat release rate (HRR) and total heat release (THR) by cone calorimetry. There was no difference in flame retardant performance between before and after 6-month outdoor exposure tests. And also no difference in flame retardant performance between before and after 2-week artificial aging which corresponds to 6-month outdoor exposure. Both tests showed the similar results of combustion characteristics.

  • Numerical simulation of $CO_2$ addition effects to fuel and oxidizer streams on flame structure has been conducted with detailed chemistry in H$_2$-O$_2$ diffusion flames of a counterflow configuration. An artificial species, which displaces added $CO_2$ in the fuel- and oxidizer-sides and has the same thermochemical, transport, and radiation properties to that of added $CO_2$, is introduced to extract pure chemical effects in flame structure. Chemical effects due to thermal dissociation of added $CO_2$ causes the reduction flame temperature in addition to some thermal effects. The reason why flame temperature due to chemical effects is larger in cases of $CO_2$ addition to oxidizer stream is well explained though a defined characteristic strain rate. The produced CO is responsible for the reaction, $CO_2$+H=CO+OH and takes its origin from chemical effects due to thermal dissociation. It is also found that the behavior of produced CO mole fraction is closely related to added $CO_2$ mole fraction, maximum H mole fraction and its position, and maximum flame temperature and its position.

  • Generally, the deterioration characteristics of a conductor affected by a forest fire can be analyzed through simulation of a forest fire and results of the simulation. However, there are little accomplishments of that kind of simulation applied to the power transmission, and there aren't actual analysis for a sample exposed in a forest fire. This paper deals with the experimental results that apply to a new wire by an artificial flame equipment because it's difficult to directly analyze the characteristic by a forest fire. Also, after an artificial flame is applied to a normal ACSR for various experimental conditions, changes of mechanical and material characteristics of the ACSR were analyzed by the surface inspection and load-tests of tensile of the ACSR. Then, the database will be made to made to predict the state of deteriorated wires by a forest fire using those two data, and data necessary to diagnose the life state of an ACSR wire affected by a forest fire will be given.

  • The radiant energy from a flaming fire of fuels containing carbonaceous material can be applied to fast growing fire. Raiant energy sensinsing technique applied detectors are ultimately effective when early detecting fire alarm system is required or the smoke and heat detectors can not be applied. This study investigated the characteristics of sun light, artificial light and flame radiation light and the foundation technique of flame detecting is established. Pyroelectric element proper for the characteristics of flame radiant energy developed and circuit stabilizing technique, electro-magnetic immunity technique, durable and reliable operating technique to circuits developed.

  • In this paper, controller Propose to prevent compressor surge and improve the transient response of the fuel flow control system of turbojet engine. Turbojet engine controller is designed by applying Artificial Neural Network PID control algorithm and make an inference by applying Artificial Neural Network Error Back Propagation Algorithm. To prevent any surge or a flame out event during the engine acceleration or deceleration, the ANN PID controller effectively controls the fuel flow input of the control system. ANN PID results are used as the fuel flow control inputs to prevent compressor surge and flame-out for turbo-jet engine and the controller is designed to converge to the desired speed quickly and safely. Using MATLAB to perform computer simulations verified the performance of the proposed controller. Response characteristics pursuant to the gain were analyzed by simulation.

  • Flame characteristics and NO emission behavior in $CH_4$/air-air premixed counterflow flames with applying FIR and FGR with $CO_2$ and $H_2O$ were investigated numerically by varying the ratios of FIR and FGR as well as global strain rate. Chemical effects of added $CO_2$ and $H_2O$ via FIR and FGR were analyzed through comparing flame characteristics and NO behaviors from real species($CO_2$ and $H_2O$) with those from their artificial species($XCO_2$ and $XH_2O$) which have the same thermochemical, radiative, and transport properties to those for the real species. The results showed that flame temperature and NO emission with FIR varied much more sensitively than that with FGR. Those varied little irrespective of adding $CO_2$, $H_2O$, and their artificial species to the fuel stream via FIR. However, Those were varied complicatedly by chemical effects of added $CO_2$ and $H_2O$ via FGR. Detailed analyses for them were made and discussed.

  • This paper deals with the experimental results that apply to a new wire by an artificial flame-maker because it's difficult to directly analyze the characteristic of deterioration by a forest fire. Those results include tension load, extension rate and torsion number for a conductor. In addition, there's been an experiment and analysis about the mechanical characteristics of the wire of ACSR 480$\textrm{mm}^2$ which was removed from Pohang area by a forest fire. Then, the database will be made to predict the state of deteriorated wires by a forest fire using those two data, and data necessary to diagnose the life state of an ACSR wire affected by a forest fire will be given.

  • Generally, the characteristics of the conductor that was affected by forest fire can be analyzed only when the forest fire is accurately modeled and its effect is identified. Few studies have been conducted with a forest fire model for transmission lines, and no results of the examination of the actual test specimens that were exposed to forest fire have been reported. As the deterioration characteristics of a forest fire are difficult to analyze in the actual field, an environment that was similar to that in the field was used in this study. Deterioration was deposited on a wire using an artificial flame experiment device, to analysis the temperature, surface and component characteristics. It seems that this analysis data in this study can be used as the basic data for the database that can be utilized to analyze wires exposed to forest fire and deterioration and to predict the ACSR wire refurnishment life.
