  • Reciprocal hybrids between the mud loach ($Misgurnus$ $mizolepis$) and cyprinid loach ($M.$ $anguillicaudatus$) were produced by artificial fertilization. The chromosome number of mud loach was 2n=48, consisting of 12M+4SM+32A chromosomes. The cyprinid loach has 2n=50, consisting of 10M+4SM+36A chromosomes. The chromosome numbers of the diploid reciprocal hybrids were 2n=49, consisting of 11M+4SM+34A chromosomes. All the karyotypes documented in this study had the same arm number of 64. There was no evidence of chromosomal polymorphisms or sex-related heteromorphism. The cytogenetic traits of the hybrid genotypes were intermediate between those of the parent species. In all genotypes, the chromosomal NORs localized to the terminal short arms of the same metacentric chromosome pair. These results suggest that Robertsonian translocation occurred between metacentric chromosome 1 of mud loach and acrocentric chromosome of cyprinid loach.

  • Although the pulse diagnosis is the one of the most important diagnostic process to traditional medical doctors, there is no proper communication tool between experts and trainees. In this paper, we have developed a indentation training system which consists of a hardware measuring indent pressure on artificial arm quantitatively and a software providing a indentation training program. The hardware for measurement of indent pressure profile includes 3 load cells embedded in the artificial arm, signal amplification part and digitization part, NI-USB 6009 with 200Hz sampling rate. For setting up a relationship table between weights and output voltages, 8 standard weights were used. To evaluate this hardware, 3 oriental medical specialists were involved and their indent pressure profile were recorded three times respectively. From these, it was found that pulse diagnosis process could be divided into 3 periods and the maximum load were $500g{\cdot}f$ approximately while doctors perform a pulse diagnosis. The indentation training program was implemented with LabView and designed to monitor the differences between the pressure profile of a expert and that of a trainee so to offer some visual feedback to the trainee. Also, this program could provide the trends of training performances. With this developed system, the education of pulse diagnosis is expected to be more quantitative and effective.

  • Korea Earthquake Monitoring System(KEMS) in the Korea Institute of Geology Mining and Materials(KIGAM) as detected more than 1000 events since the end of 1998. But not all events are interpreted as earthquakes because many events are concentrated on daytime. It strongly implies that in addition to earthquake these events include artificial effects such as industrial blasting. Before the determination of eathquake charactertistics in the korean peninsula it is necessary to discriminate the detected events as earthquakes or artificial events. For the discriminant study KIGAM and SMU(Southern Methodist University) installed a triangular four-element 1-km aperture seismo-acoustic array at Chul-Won area northeast of Seoul Korea. Each array element includes a GS-13 seismometer in the bottom of borehole and a Validyne DP250-14 microbarometer sensor mounted inside of the borehole 1,2 meter deep connected to a 11 arm radial array of 10m porous soaker hoses. This array introduce the use of 2.4-GHz radios for inter-array self-contained solar-charged power system and GPS time-keeping system. A 24-bit digital data acquisition system performs 40 SPS in the infrasound and seismometer data. Velocity and direction of wind and temperature are also measured at hub site and included to the data stresam. This seismo-acoustic array will be used to identify and locate associated with industrial blasting and these identified and located events will be applied to form a ground truth database useful to assist the other development of discriminant studies.

  • The ability to realize human-motion imitation using robots is closely related to developments in the field of artificial intelligence. However, it is not easy to imitate human motions entirely owing to the physical differences between the human body and robots. In this paper, we propose a work chain-based inverse kinematics to enable a robot to imitate the human motion of upper limbs in real time. Two work chains are built on each arm to ensure that there is motion similarity, such as the end effector trajectory and the joint-angle configuration. In addition, a two-phase filter is used to remove the interference and noise, together with a self-collision avoidance scheme to maintain the stability of the robot during the imitation. Experimental results verify the effectiveness of our solution on the humanoid robot Nao-H25 in terms of accuracy and real-time performance.

  • Subclavian injuries in blunt trauma are reported in less than 1% of all arterial injuries or chest related injuries. We report a female 68 yr-old patient whom has visited our emergency center due to a motorcycle traffic accident with complaints of right chest wall and shoulder pain. Her injury severity score was 22 and she was found with a comminuted clavicle fracture and subclavian artery injury. She developed delayed symptoms of pallor, pain and motor weakness with loss of pulse in her right arm. Attempts at intervention failed and thus, she underwent emergency artificial graft bypass from her subclavian artery to her brachial artery. Her postoperative course was uneventful and she is happy with the results. Although rare, a high index of suspicion for the injury must be noted and the inevitable surgical option must always be considered.

  • The main functions of excavator are mainly carried out by excavator attachments such as arm and boom. These components should be designed to be light as well as durable enough because their effects on the whole structure are significant. In this paper, an optimization procedure for lightweight design considering fatigue strength for excavator attachments is presented. The weight of attachments and allowable fatigue stresses at critical areas are used as objective function and constraints, respectively, in which design variables are the thickness of the plates of attachments. The simulated annealing search method is adopted for a global optimization solution. Besides, the response surface method using the artificial neural network is used to simulate constraint function for the sake of practical fast calculation. Some example case of optimization is presented here for a sample excavator. This weight optimization is expected to contribute to a considerable improvement of fuel efficiency of excavator.

  • This study compared the thermal comfort of indoor clothing from Tencel material that is getting higher in demand due to being eco-friendly with superior wettability, with that from Polyester material that despite being most widely used for indoor clothing, rapidly discharges body sweat due to low wettability. The experiments were performed in the two manners, objective evaluation under the conditions of an artificial climate chamber and subjective evaluation of wearing the given clothes at home followed by filling in the questionnaire. Subjects were 8 healthy elderly women in their 60's who spend majority of their time at home rather than in social activities, and comparison was made on skin temperature and humidity inside clothing at exercise and relaxation states under early summer environment. Based on these results, wearing Tencel material clothing maintained cooler temperatures under warm environment rather than when wearing Polyester material clothing, thus enabling activities under more comfortable state. Regarding humidity inside clothing, parts with twofold clothing did not show difference between Tencel and Polyester, but the onefold arm showed lower when wearing Tencel. With this results, Tencel is regarded as more comfortable and nicer than Polyester.

  • The sensors employed in the robotic are welding system must detect the changes in weld characteristics and produce the output that is in some way related to the change being detected. Such adaptive systems, which synchronise the robot arm and eyes using a primitive brain will form the basis for the development of robotic GMA(Gas Metal Arc) welding which increasingly higher levels of artificial intelligence. The objective of this paper is to realize the mapping characteristics of bead height through learning. After learning, the neural estimation can estimate the bead height desired from the learning mapping characteristic. The design parameters of the neural network estimator(the number of hidden layers and the number of nodes in a layer) are chosen from an estimation error analysis. A series of bead of bead-on-plate GMA welding experiments was carried out in order to verify the performance of the neural network estimator. The experimental results show that the proposed neural network estimator can predict the bead height with reasonable accuracy and guarantee the uniform weld quality.
