  • 20th century was the age of Modernism which was based on rational side of human mind. However, with the fall of Modernism, also came the fall of rationalism's dictatorship. Now, we see the pursuit and quest of irrational thinking as a new possibility of human expression which actually was already begun by Dada and Surrealism in early 20th century. It was facilitated by re-evaluation of Freud's psychoanalytic theory at the end of 20th century. This paper researches psychoanalytic approach applied to the analyses of unconscious human desires in art and design, especially its application to contemporary space design. These designs represent, without making any ethical evaluation, the fact that those unconscious desires are part of inborn human nature and the fact that 21st century is heading toward open society which embraces diverse values and possibilities. By analyzing irrational tendencies in contemporary space designs, this paper aims at proving the meaning and value for one of new directions in 21st century space design. First chapter is an introduction. Second chapter studies Freud's psychoanalytic theory. Third chapter examines the psychoanalytic methodologies with which unconscious desires are expressed in art and design. Fourth chapter classifies the types of subconscious desires expressed in contemporary space designs and analyzes their case studies. Fifth chapter is the conclusion.

  • The purpose of this thesis is to understand Henry Jame's theory of the novel and to clarify the importance of him as a theorist. He developed many literary techniques through his dozens of works. But it is more important that he is a theorist who established the unique theory of novel through his critical essays. I arranged Jame's early theories, focusing on "The Art of Fiction" that was one of his major essays written in 1884. His main idea was that the purpose of novel was to represent life. The "experience" that James emphasized was composed of characters, impression and consciousness. "Psychological Realism", which is Jame's unique realism, reflected his interests in the inner mind of man. James believed in the capacity of human imagination as the source of creative inspiration and its ability to perceive reality in a manner that is more intense and comprehensive and transform it into a more balanced and orderly ideality. Henry James always insisted on the importance of writer's imagination. Another important imagination in Henry Jame's novel is the character's imagination. It is closely related with the consciousness, the heart of the Jame's literary world. James devised the new form of novel as well as the possibility of representation of mind. At this point, it is said that James was the pioneer of literary criticism. He evoked the trend of the early 20th century.

  • This is the research of Abject Art which was originated aesthetically in Abjection Theory of Julia Kristeva, a french psycho-analyst who argued liberational discussions about feminine identity against patricentric ideology which had fastened existing beautiful and elegant oedipal-feminine image and femininity as the secondary sex or the other's sex. and which became known by the planning display at whitney Museum of American in 1993. In Julia Kristeva's Abjection Theory which was written in her book(Power of Horror : An Assay on Abjection, 1992), she named pre-oedipal stage in which there is no sexual difference and has the same significance to both sexes instead of the oedipal stage which is becoming male-supreme reality as the semiotic and reinterpreted that an infant disregards feminine body--mother's body (Julia Kristeva, named it as Chora) as the love and the pain which carries her baby in herself and creates the baby which belonged to herself--which belongs to the semiotic to enter the symbolic smoothly. So the Abjection art is partly consist of some works which express the concertion of the boundary rebated with infant Identity which is not yet the other perfectly nor the subject perfectly, and of some works called Excretory Arts which express the excretion and vomiting which is the original experience of the abject. I expect that this research can be the chance of breaking from the fastened identity which was granted on female and feminine costume in this masculine-view centric society and creating the new position of costume and dress in the field of art by analyzing the costumes especially among these works.

  • We propose an ART2 neural network-based fault diagnosis method to diagnose of sensor in the gas monitoring system. In the proposed method, using thermal modulation of operating temperature of sensor, the signal patterns are extracted from the voltage of load resistance. Also, fault classifier by ART2 NN (adaptive resonance theory 2 neural network) with uneven vigilance parameters is used for fault isolation. The performances of the proposed fault diagnosis method are shown by simulation results using real data obtained from the gas monitoring system.

  • In order to attain unique aesthetic value, diversity of meanings of Fusion Design, 'openness', requires meaning interpreting process(communication) which harmonizes and combines new codes suggested by authors(senders) and codes interpreted by public(receivers). For this harmony, we should consider all the art aspects(integration of synchronic and diachronic, anti-rationalism ideology, negative concept) that are bases of creativity of Fusion Aesthetics. Moreover, we can approach open thought system of Fusion Design through theories of Entropy and Rhizome. This point of view which allowed a categorical means of natural science theory to be used in design context changed a methodic or interpretative perception. Not only in art interpreting process does Fusion Design take openness as one of its necessary factors but also in creating process, which enables a work of art to be opened at the maximum. In conclusion, the significance of fusion design is to suggest an ideal model of communication abstracted from open art works.

  • In this paper, we proposed fuzzy adaptive resonance theory(ART) combined with principle component analysis(PCA) to recognize and classify indoor environmental gases. In experiment Taguchi gas sensors(TGS) are used to detect VOCs. Using thermal modulation of operating temperature of two sensors, we extract patterns of gases from the voltage across the load resistance. We use the PCA algorithm to reduce dimension so it needs less memory and shortens calculation time. Simulation is accomplished to two directions for fuzzy ART with and without PCA.

  • In this paper I examine Cesare Cattaneo and Mario Radice's Camerlata Fountain in northern Italy, focusing on the work's relation to the urban environment and its "mobility" over several decades. As I demonstrate, the design of Cattaneo and Radice's work relates to the circular layout of a traffic intersection and was intended to be viewed from the window of a moving automobile. In this way it continues a tradition, begun by the Futurists and continued by Le Corbusier, who saw the car as central to modern art and architecture. Moreover, the work relates to the concept of mobility in so far as it was in itially built in 1936 in Milan and subsequently destroyed and reconstructed during 1962 in its current location near Como. As the history of the work's conception, production and reception demonstrates, Cattaneo and Radice's work not only responds to the experience of vehicle-generated mobility in modern society but also reveals the tensions and anxieties associated with an increasingly dynamic urban environment.

  • 본 논문에서는 자율신경망 중 ART2(Adaptive Resonance Theory 2)를 이용하여 지문의 매칭알고리즘에 적용하였다.

  • The ART(Adaptive Resonance Theory) model is self- organized with nonstationary input patterns in real time. But there is a multirun problem caused by fault clustering, or pertubated clustering and confines the advantage of the stationary real-time processing in ART model. In this paper, we propose the incremental vigilance threshold approach to decrease the number of multiruns. The incremental vigilance threshold approach is to learn with incremental vigilance threshold and competition with clusters.

  • In this paper, we propose a fault diagnosis algorithm to detect and isolate multiple faults in a system. The proposed fault diagnosis algorithm is based on a multiple fault classifier which consists of two ART2 NN(adaptive resonance theory2 neural network) modules and the algorithm is composed of three main parts - parameter estimation, fault detection and isolation. When a change in the system occurs, estimated parameters go through a transition zone in which residuals between the system output and the estimated output cross the threshold, and in this zone, estimated parameters are transferred to the multiple faults classifier for fault isolation. From the computer simulation results, it is verified that when the proposed diagnosis algorithm is performed successfully, it detects and isolates faults in the position control system of a DC motor.
