The study on surge detector of digital surge counter for arrester (Arrester용 digital surge counter의 서지 검출 장치에 관한 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to design the digital surge counter for lightning arresters. The used detecting method for surges is using the signal of both ends of ZnO varistor. The electronic detecting parts of the digital counter are arranged in outside of main processer for protecting it from noise. The detecting parts change detected signals into small signals. The countermeasures for noises are (1) Shielding (2) Reinforcement of power circuits (3) Cables & Circ1e core (4) Watch-doc & control of input signals.

  • Zinc oxide varistors which contain rare earth metal oxides have been developed. These Varistors are widely used for low voltage surge-protection devices and high voltage arresters for electric power stations. The characteristics of varistors with praseodymium oxide as a principal additive are discussed. A two-phase microstructure with an intergranular phase between the ZnO grains.

  • The lightning causes the damage of power system equipments as well as large power failure. Therefore, the insulation design should be established not only to decrease the damage of the facilities itself but also to increase the reliability of electric power system. This paper describes the useful way applying underbuilt ground wire and guy wire in transmission tower that safely protect the substation equipments. One or more shield wires under the phase conductor will not intercept lightning stroke, but they may improve reduce lightning voltages almost as effectively as if they were above the phase conductors. And the guy wires will mitigate the tower surge response. These would not only reduce backflashover possibility but also minimize crest and duration of surges entering the substation. EMTP is used to analyze the efficiency of the proposed methods.

  • Since surge arresters are recommended to protect the electric power system from the lighting surge, the impulse current is generally used to verify this requirement at the test labotaries. Recently, the international standard(IEC 60060-2) related to the impulse current techniques revised requiring a traceability of measuring system for impulse current measurements. In this paper, a shunt for impulse current is developed satisfing the revised IEC standard and the possibility of application has been investigated using step response.

  • This paper describes the effect of lightning impulse current on deterioration of ZnO blocks for distribution arrester. In this study. a multiple-lightning impulse current generator which can produce quadruple 8/20 ${\mu}s$ 5 kA is designed and fabricated, and total energy applied to the arrester block at each pulse is about 1,217 J. The experimental results indicate that the type of arresters are more vulnerable to deteriorate or damage at multiple-lightning impulse current.

  • The main aim of the paper is the study of the surge voltages in electric railway signal security system. Hence these studies will provide means of introducing a suitable protective device insulating transformer. This influences the surge voltage interrupting capacity using surge arresters and bypass capacitors. This circuit can be used for investigating surge phenomenon in electric railway signal security system. In this paper a insulating transformer has been introduced for the reduction of surge voltages in the above circuit model and performance evaluation.

  • This paper examines the insulation coordination scheme of line and equipment in distribution system when the direct lightning surge strikes. The BIL that is applied in distribution system is not properly considered the performance and operation of arresters. Because of that, the high BIL is being used at partial system. This paper variously analyse the lightning overvoltage of line and equipment with earth of overhead grounding wire and installation types of arrester. Form these result, authors examine the rationality of BIL.

  • This paper analyses the lightning overvoltage with earth of grounding wire and installation types of arresters in double circuits distribution systems. First, the model for analysis is selected severer case between upper line and lower line when the direct lightning surge strikes on the overhead grounding wire. The lightning overvoltage is variously calculated with earth distance between overhead grounding wires. This paper also analyses the effect of the installation distance between arrestors and the earth resistance of overhead grounding wire. From these results, authors examine the rationality of BIL that is applied in distribution system.

  • The overvoltage generated by the lightning strokes has been doing considerable damage to the distribution network as well as the consumer facility until now. Because most of the lightning strokes are accompanied by a storm, the aftermath of damage to the consumer is so serious. Therefore it is very important to survey the optimal operation plan by the field test of distribution lightning facilities. In this paper we have accomplished the field test to verify the impulse characteristic of Secondary Arrester(SA), and analyzed the effect of the SA in power distribution system.
