  • This paper proposes an advanced circuit for the capacitive type fingerprint sensor signal processing and an effective isolation structure for minimizing an electrostatic discharge(ESD) influence and for removing a signal coupling noise of each sensor pixel. The proposed detection circuit increases the voltage difference between a ridge and valley about $80\%$ more than old circuit. The test chip is composed of $160\;\times\;192$ array sensing cells $(9,913\times11,666\;um^2).$ The sensor plate area is $58\;\times\;58\;um^2$ and the pitch is 60um. The image resolution is 423 dpi. The chip was fabricated on a 0.35um standard CMOS process. It successfully captured a high-quality fingerprint image and performed the registration and identification processing. The sensing and authentication time is 1 sec(.) with the average power consumption of 10 mW at 3.0V. The reveal ESD tolerance is obtained at the value of 4.5 kV.

  • This paper proposes efficient digital hardware design method by using fixed weight of pre-trained neural network. For this, arithmetic operations of PEs(Processing Elements) are represented with matrix-vector multiplication. The relationship of fixed weight and input data present bit-level array structure architecture which is consisted operation node. To minimize the operation node, this paper proposes node elimination method and setting common node depend on bit pattern of weight. The result of FPGA simulation shows the efficiency on hardware cost and operation speed with full precision. And proposed design method makes possibility that many PEs are implemented to on-chip.

  • An MMIC multi-function chip with a low DC power consumption for an X-band active phased array radar system has been designed and fabricated using a 0.5 ${\mu}m$ GaAs p-HEMT commercial process. The multi-function chip provides several functions: 6-bit phase shifting, 6-bit attenuation, transmit/receive switching, and signal amplification. The fabricated multi-function chip with a compact size of $16mm^2(4mm{\times}4mm)$ exhibits a gain of 10 dB and a P1dB of 14 dBm from 7 GHz to 11 GHz with a DC low power consumption of only 0.6 W. The RMS(Root Mean Square) errors for the 64 states of the 6-bit phase shift and attenuation were measured to $3^{\circ}$ and 0.6 dB, respectively over the frequency.

  • A two-facet approach was used to investigate the parametric performance of functional high-speed DDR3 (Double Data Rate) DRAM (Dynamic Random Access Memory) die placed in different types of BGA (Ball Grid Array) packages: wire-bonded BGA (FBGA, Fine Ball Grid Array), flip-chip (FCBGA) and lead-bonded $microBGA^{(R)}$. In the first section, packaged live DDR3 die were tested using automatic test equipment using high-resolution shmoo plots. It was found that the best timing and voltage margin was obtained using the lead-bonded microBGA, followed by the wire-bonded FBGA with the FCBGA exhibiting the worst performance of the three types tested. In particular the flip-chip packaged devices exhibited reduced operating voltage margin. In the second part of this work a test system was designed and constructed to mimic the electrical environment of the data bus in a PC's CPU-Memory subsystem that used a single DIMM (Dual In Line Memory Module) socket in point-to-point and point-to-two-point configurations. The emulation system was used to examine signal integrity for system-level operation at speeds in excess of 6 Gb/pin/sec in order to assess the frequency extensibility of the signal-carrying path of the microBGA considered for future high-speed DRAM packaging. The analyzed signal path was driven from either end of the data bus by a GaAs laser driver capable of operation beyond 10 GHz. Eye diagrams were measured using a high speed sampling oscilloscope with a pulse generator providing a pseudo-random bit sequence stimulus for the laser drivers. The memory controller was emulated using a circuit implemented on a BGA interposer employing the laser driver while the active DRAM was modeled using the same type of laser driver mounted to the DIMM module. A custom silicon loading die was designed and fabricated and placed into the microBGA packages that were attached to an instrumented DIMM module. It was found that 6.6 Gb/sec/pin operation appears feasible in both point to point and point to two point configurations when the input capacitance is limited to 2pF.

  • In this paper, a small areal dual-output SC(switched capacitor) DC-DC converter with a improved range of an input voltage is presented. The conventional SC DC-DC converter has an advantage of low cost and small chip area. But, it has a narrow input voltage range to convert efficiently. Also, it has a lager chip area and a lower power efficiency from multiple outputs. The proposed SC DC-DC converter improves the power efficiency by using the capacitor array structure which efficiently converts the voltage according to the input voltage. By sharing two switch array, it reduces the number of switches and capacitors from 32 to 25. The proposed SC DC-DC converter was manufactured in a $0.18{\mu}m$ CMOS process. In the simulation, the range of the input voltage is 0.7~ 1.8V, the max. power efficiency is 90%, and the chip area is $0.255mm^2$.

  • We propose a printed circuit board (PCB)-embedded antenna for millimeter-wave chip-to-chip communication. The antenna is 0.18 mm in height which is 1/20 wavelength at 80 GHz. In order to realize such a low profile, a zeroth-order resonator antenna with a periodic array of four unit cells is employed, and its geometry is optimized to cover an 8-GHz bandwidth from 76 to 84 GHz. With this;the antenna is capable of radiating in a direction parallel to the board length despite the short distance between the ground and the radiator. Simulation and measurement results show that the optimized design has low reflection coefficients and consistent radiation patterns throughout the target bandwidth.

  • This paper presents a new programmable compensation circuit (PCC) for a System-on-Chip (SoC). The PCC is integrated with $0.18-{\mu}m$ BiCMOS SiGe technology. It consists of RF Design-for-Testability (DFT) circuit, Resistor Array Bank (RAB) and digital signal processor (DSP). To verify performance of the PCC we built a 5-GHz low noise amplifier (LNA) with an on-chip RAB using the same technology. Proposed circuit helps it to provide DC output voltages, hence, making the RF system chain automatic. It automatically adjusts performance of an LNA with the processor in the SoC when it goes out of the normal range of operation. The PCC also compensates abnormal operation due to the unusual PVT (Process, Voltage and Thermal) variations in RF circuits.

  • This research aims to develop the multiple channel electrochemical DNA chip using microfabrication technology. At first, we fabricated a high integration type DNA chip array by lithography technology. Several probe DNAs consisting of thiol group at their 5-end were immobilized on the gold electrodes. Then target DNAs were hybridized and reacted. Cyclic voltammetry showed a difference between target DNA and control DNA in the anodic peak current values. Therefore, it is able to detect a plural genes electrochemically after immobilization of a plural probe DNA and hybridization of non-labeling target DNA on the electrodes simultaneously. It suggested that this DNA chip could recognize the sequence specific genes.
