In this paper, the linear active phased array antenna system operated in Ku DBS band was designed and experimented. The antenna system was composed of sixteen radiating active channels and Wilkinson power combiners with 16-channel inputs, a stabilizing DC bias and phase control board. Electrical beams of the antenna system can be formed by controling the phase-states of 3-bit digital phase shifter inside each active channel by virtue of the phase control board. The amplitude and phase deviations measured between active channels were less than ${\pm}0.8dB$ and ${\pm}15^{\circ}$, respectively, and the noise figure of each active channel was measured less than 1.2 dB in the operating band. The measured performances of the overall antenna system showed the antenna gain of more than 23.07 dBi and the sidelobe level of less than -11.17 dBc, and the bore-sight cross-polarization level of less than -12.75 dBc in the operating band. Also, by phase-controlling active channels, the beam scan patterns at $10^{\circ},\;20^{\circ},\;30^{\circ}$ were measured, and the losses caused by the corresponding beam scanning were 1.1 dB, 2.5 dB and 3.6 dB from the measurements, respectively.
This paper concerns a modified perturbation method and a least square approach to synthesize an optimum beam pattern of a thinned sensor array with respect to element spacing. In the modified perturbation, the antenna spacing is perturbed iteratively such that the sidelobes are equalized via a linear programming approach. The least square approach is proposed to improve the array performance for the thinned array using the fact that the number of sidelobes is more than the number of element spacings. It is demonstrated that the least square approach performs better than the modified perturbation method.

This paper describes the characteristics of beam-tilting slot away waveguide antennas for mobile DBS reception. As a basic study of slotted waveguide array, design for 16 slot elements located on a broad-wall waveguide is considered. Design parameters such as slot length, space between each slot and cross slot angle of antennas with the beam-tilting characteristics are calculated by method of moments. Based on these results, the radiation waveguide antennas with 16-element $\times$16-array are designed and fabricated. The measured main beam direction angles of the fabricated antennas are 48$^{\circ}$to 50$^{\circ}$depending on the measured frequencies and it shows good agreement with prediction. The measured 3 dB beam width of elevation pattern is about 13$^{\circ}$, and the axial ratio and the gain measured at DBS band are observed 2.8 dB below and 24 dBi above, respectively. In order to evaluate a performance of the fabricated waveguide planar antenna, it is combined with the satellite tracking control system and the field performance test of antenna mounted on a mobile vehicle is carried out at highway. During the measurement, it was possible to watch television without a break signal in a driving vehicle and an excellent performance of the proposed antennas was demonstrated.

A series-fed microstrip array antenna of beamwidth $10^{\circ}$, squint angle $80^{\circ}$ and SLL -15 dB below is designed. Series-fed arrays are formed by interconnecting all the elements by high-impedance transmission lines and feeding the power at the first element and it is a traveling-wave antenna which is terminated with a matched load. Radiation patterns and impedance matching of the antenna are analyzed by Ensemble 4.0, which is a popular software package for designing printed antennas and arrays. The squint angle of beam can be controlled by the spacing between the elements. The major advantages of series-fed array antennas are that feed arangement is compact and the losses associated with the feeding network are less than those of a corporate feed type. The antennas are fabricated on the RT/Duroid Laminates of 62 mil thickness. The experimental results are very close to the specifications to be designed.

Digital retrodirective antenna system is easy to modify and upgrade because it can control the phase information of the output signal toward opposite direction to input signal without a priori knowledge of the arrival direction. Due to this advantage, it is possible to do fast beam tracking. Especially, we need to design the digital PLL performance for the digital retrodirective array antenna system. So, in this paper the settling time of phase estimator and BER performance of retrodirective antenna system are investigated according to design of filter in digital PLL. When QAM signal is used for 1 Mbps with $30^{\circ}$ of phase delay, simulation results show that digital phase conjugation technique has better BER performance by about 1 dB than non-phase conjugation system when digital filter is stable. If not, the system can't estimate the exact phase because of oscillation of filter.

In this paper, a new technique and cost function which can be to classify jamming signal and target signal from the spectral distribution of received signal in order to minimize the main beam distortion of target signal and to form nulls in the direction of jamming signal in array antennas of single port system is proposed. The proposed cost function is applied to the adaptive algorithm which has the fast convergence and stable nulling performance through the combination of the PSO(Particle Swam Optimization) algorithm and the gradient-based perturbation algorithm, which shows stable nulling performance adaptively even under the moving jamming signal where the incident direction of the jamming signal is changing with time.
This paper presents a true-time delay (TTD) using a commercial $0.13-{\mu}m$ CMOS process for wideband phased-array antennas without the beam squint. The proposed TTD consists of four wideband distributed gain amplifiers (WDGAs), a 7-bit TTD circuit, and a 6-bit digital step attenuator (DSA) circuit. The T-type attenuator with a low-pass filter and the WDGAs are implemented for a low insertion loss error between the reference and time-delay states, and has a flat gain performance. The overall gain and return losses are >7 dB and >10 dB, respectively, at 2 GHz-18 GHz. The maximum time delay of 198 ps with a 1.56-ps step and the maximum attenuation of 31.5 dB with a 0.5-dB step are achieved at 2 GHz-18 GHz. The RMS time-delay and amplitude errors are <3 ps and <1 dB, respectively, at 2 GHz-18 GHz. An output P1 dB of <-0.5 dBm is achieved at 2 GHz-18 GHz. The chip size is $3.3{\times}1.6mm^2$, including pads, and the DC power consumption is 370 mW for a 3.3-V supply voltage.

In this paper, a Ka-band high-output active phased array antenna device applicable to small radars and seekers was designed, and the improved performance was studied. The radiation device assembly consists of 1x8 arrangements, and the step flared notch antenna type. It shows low active reflection loss characteristics in broadband, and low loss characteristics by applying the air-strip feeding structure, and is designed to enable beam steering up to 45 degrees. The TRM(transmit receive module) output power is more than 2.0W per channel using GaN HPA in the transmitting path, and satisfies more than 25.0 dB gain and less than 6.0 dB noise figure in the receiving path. Accordingly, the Effective Isotropically Radiated Power(EIRP) of the antenna unit shows the performance of 0.00 dB or more and the receive gain-to-noise temperature ratio(G/T) of 0.00 dB/k or more. For demonstration, we have designed aforementioned planar array antenna which consists of 64 radiating elements having a size within 130 mm x 130 mm x 300 mm and weight of less than 4.9 kg..

This paper newly proposes a methodology towards computing antenna element weights which are satisfying asymmetric sidelobe levels(SLLs) specified arbitrarily on both sides of the main beam pattern, in the linear phased array antenna pattern synthesis problem. Opposite to the conventional methods in which the element weights are directly optimized from the array factor, this method is based on the optimum perturbations of complex roots inherent to the Schelkunoff's polynomial form which is described for the array factor. From the proposed methodology, the capability of nulling the directions of multiple jammers is also possible by independently perturbing only the complex roots corresponding to each jamming direction, hence allowing an enhancement of the simplicity of the numerical procedure by means of a proper reduction of the dimension of the solution space. The complex weights over the array are then easily computed by substituting the optimally perturbed complex roots to the Schelkunoff's polynomial. Some examples are examined and numerically verified by substituting the extracted weights into the array factor equation.

In this paper, an active antenna module operating in the 60 GHz band is designed and fabricated by combining a commercial transmitter chip and patch array antenna. The designed module is composed of an antenna PCB and a PCB with a transmitter chip. The frequency-control and bias-control signals are applied to the transmitter chip, using an Arduino kit. A baseband I/Q signal is also applied to the chip. A ring hybrid balun converts the output of the transmitter module to a single output, which is the output of the transmitter chip that outputs a differential output. The output is delivered to the $2{\times}4$ microstrip patch array antenna PCB as a micro-computer connector. The radiation pattern of the millimeter-wave signal of the final output is compared with the simulation results. The measured radiation patterns of the fabricated active antenna module confirm that the positions of the 3 dB beam width and null point agree well with the simulation results.
