The Clinical Analysis on 19 Cases of Anxiety Disorder (불안장애환자(不安障碍患者) 19례(例)에 대(對)한 임상적(臨床的) 고찰(考察))

  • A clinical analysis was carried out for 19 patients who was treated in Dept. of Neuropsychiatry of Taejon Oriental Medicine Hospital from I aug. 1997 to 31 Jul. 1998 and was ruled out as anxiety disorder. The results were summarized as follows. 1. In the distribution of the sex, ratio between female and male was 1:2.8, distribution of the age was even each age, and the primary motive of the onset were psychological trauma, question of money, discord of a household. 2. As for the duration in disease, the duration from a week to a month had a majority of all, and the most duration of the addmission-treatment was a week. 3. The most common symptom were palpitation ·anxiety, headache·dizziness, chest discomfort, the cases of generalized anxiety disorder and atypical anxiety disorder was a large number. 4. In the aromatherapy of absorptive method, the sort of many used essential oil were Lavenda and Rosewood, in the massage, that were Peppermint and Rosemary. 5. The most used recipes were BUNSIMKIYEM(分心氣飮) HACHULBOSIMTANG(夏朮補心湯), CHUNGGANSOYOSAN(淸肝逍遙散), BANHABAEKCHUCHUNMATANG(半夏白朮天麻湯), CUIBIONDAMTANG(歸脾溫膽湯) etc. 6. In the judgement of efficacy, 9 cases showed good efficacy, 9 cases showed no change, 1 case showed excellent efficacy.

  • The natural ingredient has been utilized variety of the food and medicine. The aromatherapy well known prevent disease and healthy promotion using the essential oil derived extracted plants. In this work, natural ingredient include herb granulated for application of tobacco filter. That used by granulation using fluidized bed granulator(top-spray, bottom-spray and tangential-spray) and wet granule method. According to ingredient can used granulating method selectivity. So, we used fluid-bed granulator and wet granule method. Grapefruit extract coated sugar particle using the bottom-spray method and red ginseng granule granulated red ginseng powder using the tangential-spray method in a fluidized bed. Then, these granules applied the tobacco filter after due consideration add amount and operation efficiency. As a result, wet granule was loaded dual filter because that similarity carbon granule. And it was fitted in added 3mg/mm, per tip in the tobacco end part. Another type, fuidized bed granules was filled cavity filter because it has high hardness, sphere shape.

Effects of Aroma Foot Bath on Urination Status and Stress related to Urination in Patients with Benign Prostatic Hyperplasia (BPH)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate effects of aroma foot bath on urination status (Prostatic Symptom and bother score due to urinary symptoms) and stress related to urination in patients with benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). Methods: This study consists of pre- and post-tests in a non-equivalent group design. The 52 BPH patients selected by random sampling in G City were assigned to two groups (experimental group=26, control group=26). Data of their general characteristics, urination status and stress related to urination were collected using self-reported questionnaires. Aroma Foot Bath was performed to the experimental group for 15-20 minutes every day for a week. Descriptive statistics and independent t-test were used for the analyses in this study with the SPSS/WIN 21.0 version program. Results: Prostatic symptom and bother score due to urinary symptoms in the experimental group were improved than those in the control group (t=-7.94, p<.001). Compared to the control group, the stress related to urination in the experimental group (t=-8.78, p<.001) was significantly reduced (t=-5.21, p<.001). Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that aroma foot bath is effective in improving urination status and reducing stress related to urination in BPH patients.

  • The Purpose of this study was to investigate infancy patients who had visited Oriental Medicine Hospital, and so to consider a counterplan by oriental medicine. The study was composed of 101 new infancy patients who had visited Dongguk Kyeongju Oriental Medicine Hospital during 1 year from January 2001 to December 2001. The results were as follows : 1. Male children are 65(64.3%), female children are 36(35.6%), male to female ratio is 1.8: 1. 2. In age distribution, 1 month 5.9% ; 2 month 10.9%, 3 month 4.0%, 4 month 11.9%, 5 month 5.9%, 6 month 9.9%, 7 month 10.9%, 8 month 10.9%, 9 month 10.9%, 10 month 14.8%, 11 month 4.0%. 3. According to systematic division of the chief complaint, respiratory diseases are 37.6%, digestive diseases are 25.7%, nervous diseases are 21.8%, urogenital diseases are 1.0%, musculoskeletal diseases are 1.0%, dermatologic diseases are 7.9%, infirmity diseases are 3.0%. 4. In treatment, herb-medication is 86.1%, consultation is 7.9%, acupuncture is 17.8%, moxibution is 2.0%, venesection is 14.8%, aromatherapy is 4.9%, chimsband is 16.8%.

Effects of Perineal Care with Aroma Essential Oil on the Decrease of Urinary Tract Infection in Patients with Indwelling Urinary Catheter (아로마 에센셜 오일을 이용한 회음부 간호가 유치도뇨관 삽입환자의 요로 감염 감소에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: This study was designed to verify effects of perineal care with aroma essential oil on urinary tract infection(UTI) in patients with indwelling urinary catheter. Method: The research design was non equivalent control group pretest-post test design. The data were collected from March to August, 2005 at C university hospital in Seoul. The subjects were 43 patients who had a indwelling catheter in neurosurgery intensive care unit(NSICU). They were assigned to two groups, 21 subjects to the experimental group and 22 subjects to the control group. The experimental group received perineal care with 3% blending essential oil for 4 days. Results: In the experimental group, white blood cells and bacteria in urine were significantly lower than control group. Bacteria in urine culture was lower in the experimental group at post test. Conclusion: Perineal care with aroma essential oil could be an effective intervention to reduce the UTI of patients in NSICU.

Effects of Aroma Hand Massage on State Anxiety, Depression, Quality of Sleep, and Blood Pressure of Palliative Patients in Hospice (아로마 손마사지가 호스피스·완화의료대상자의 상태불안, 우울, 수면의 질 및 혈압에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: The study aimed to examine the effects of aroma hand massage on state sanxiety, depression, quality of sleep, and blood pressure levels of palliative patients in hospice. Methods: This study was conducted using a nonequivalent control group with a pretest-posttest design. The participants were 48 palliative patients in hospice (experimental group: 24, control group: 24). The aroma hand massage was given to the experimental group once a day for 5 days. Data were collected between December 2017 to February 2018. Data were analyzed using SPSS 20.0 program with the chi-square test, Fisher's exact test, independent t-test, and repeated measurement analysis of variance(ANOVA). Results: There were significant differences in state anxiety levels (t=2.41, p=.020) and quality of sleep (F=14.29, p<.001). However, significant differences in the levels of depression (t=1.59, p=.119), systolic blood pressure (F=0.37, p=.695), and diastolic blood pressure (F=0.37, p=.695) were observed. The aroma hand massage was effective in improving the quality of sleep and state anxiety levels of palliative patients in a hospice. Conclusion: The aroma hand massage was effective in improving the quality of sleep and state anxiety in a hospice.

Effects of Lavender Fragrance Inhalation Method on Sleep, Depression and Stress of Institutionalized Elderly (라벤더 흡입이 시설노인의 수면, 우울 및 스트레스에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to evaluate the effects of Lavender inhalation on sleep, depression and stress of institutionalized elderly. Methods: The methods used in the study follows a non-equivalent pre- and post-test design. 39 institutionalized elderly were recruited using a convenient sampling method that assigned them to the experimental or the control group. The experimental group were then provided with essential Lavender oil, as part of the aroma inhalation intervention, to inhale before sleeping for 7 days. The collected data were analysed with SPSS 18.0 (windows program), using frequency percentage (%), a Chi-square test and an independent t-test. Results: The results were that the experimental group had significantly higher sleep status scores(t=5.195, p=.000), and lower depression scores (t=-5.479, p=.000), physical stress scores (t=-5.741, p=.000) and psychological stress scores (t=-4.233, p=.000) than those in the control group. Conclusion: This study suggests that aroma inhalation, as part of aroma therapy, be applied and comprehensively adopted as a method of nursing intervention for improvement of sleep, depression and stress for institutionalized elderly.

  • This study gives prospects and tasks for the development of Korean herb industries and suggests as follows; There are some preconditions to be considered for the applications of functional traits of herbs and the effect of the profits when herb garden are promoted in Korea later. To activate Korean herb industries, the development of Korean unique herbs and aromatherapies should be settled down with training of specialists to reconcile the health, the beauty and interiors using herbs with human everyday lift in Korea and the effects of economic benefits should be reconsidered with the activation of processing industries by developing the competitive goods from natural plants outside. To continue the development of Korean herb industries, some businesses should be executed step by step like the expansion of recognition far herbs, the promotion of the bases for the herb industry development and the increase of earnings with using herbs while the industrial-educational cooperation system are built and the settlement of the herb industries should be promoted with systematic devices for those systems preceded.

  • Purpose: The study was done to analyze the effects of aroma inhalation method on preoperative anxiety of abdominal surgical patients. Methods: The research design was a nonequivalent control group non-synchronized design. The data were collected from July 25 to October 21, 2005 at C Medical Center in Seoul. The patients were divided into two group of 24 subjects each. In order for measuring the all patient's anxiety before operation and aroma inhalation, Spidlberger(1975) trait anxiety, VAS(visual analogue scale) state anxiety, blood pressure, pulse rate were taken. After experimental group was taken aroma inhalation, VAS state anxiety, blood pressure, pulse rate were measured for two group. Results: After aroma inhalation, VAS state anxiety level, systolic blood pressure, diastolic blood pressure, pulse rate of the experimental group were decreased significantly than those of control group(p = .000, p = .000, p = .030. p = .000). Conclusion: The aroma inhalation method can be considered an effective nursing intervention that relieves the preoperative anxiety of abdominal surgical patients and stabilizes vital signs.

A Comparison between Effects of Aroma Massage and Meridian Massage on Constipation and Stress in Women College Students (여대생의 변비와 스트레스 완화를 위한 아로마 복부마사지와 복부경락마사지의 효과 비교)

  • Purpose: This study was done to compare the effects of abdominal aroma massage and meridian massage on constipation and stress in college women with functional constipation. Methods: The participants were 38 college women, 18 were in the aroma group and 20 in the meridian group. The aroma massage was given using aroma oil which was a mixture of lemon, lavender, rosemary, and cyprus. The meridian massage was given at 9 accupoints which influence intestinal functions. The treatment was given 5 days a week for 4 weeks. A constipation severity score, weekly defecation frequency, and a stress response score were measured before and every week of 4 weeks of the experiment. Results: While there was no significant difference between two groups, there was a significant difference within the groups in the constipation severity (aroma group: 1st week, meridian group: except 4th week), defecation frequency (aroma group: 3rd week, meridian group: 2nd and 3rd week), and stress (aroma group: all weeks, meridian group: except 4th week) after different duration of experiment. Conclusion: Based on these results, both abdominal massages relieved constipation and stress. Resorting to either types of massage will contribute to the reduction of use of stool softeners, suppositories, or enemas.
