Progressive pigmented purpuric dermatosis(Schamberg's disease, purpura simplex) is an uncommon eruption characterized by petechiae and patches of brownish pigmentation, particularly on the lower extremities. Lesions remain for months or years and present only a cosmetic problem. there is no hematologic disease, venous insufficiency, or associated internal disease. The most characteristic feature is orange brown, pinhead-sized "cayenne pepper" spots. It is hard to find similar disease in Oriental Medicine, however it could be though related with 瘀血. We observed and treated a 25 old female with progressive pigmented purpuric dermatosis on her lower extremities, without pain and itching sign. About 1 year after our treatment, herb-medication. acupuncture treatment, negative therapy and applied aroma oil in order to remove the 瘀血(a kind of congestion) & inner heat and promote the circulation of her blood, the area of pigmented purpuric dermatosis was decreased remarkably and the colour was lighter. She is been treated continuously now and satisfied with the efficacy of treatment.

Paranasal sinusitis has many different kinds of symptoms ; rhinorrea, cough. post nasal drip. headache, etc. In some cases, patients, mostly adults, had no symptom except headache. We treated a 8-year-old child who only complained headache without any other symptoms related in nasal disease. Her symptoms ; headache, nausea, vomiting and general weakness, showed typical type of disease which were due to phlegm. So we diagnosed her headache as a " Headache due to phlegm". Interestingly, her PNS images were diagnosed as bilateral maxillary sinusitis. After one and a half month treatment with herb-med and Aroma oil, the patient got free from all symptoms and her PNS images showed no abnormality.

Exposure to stress can lead to sympathetic hyperactivity, which include a systemic disease with lesions in a broad spectrum of organs and a psychiatric condition. The purpose aimed to evaluate the effect of the korea ginger essential oil on stress hormone and brain tissue response in chronic mild stress-induced rats model of sympathetic hyperactivity. Evaluation method carried out cytotoxicity assessment and component analysis, what observe the effects based on serum biomarker and histopathological analysis of brain tissue. As this time, the korea ginger essential oil was treatment at doses of 100 nl/㎖ for 2 weeks after make a chronic mild stress-induced rats model of sympathetic hyperactivity. As a result, the korea ginger essential oil was not toxic at less than 100 nl/㎖, contents of 6-gingerol was 345 ppm. Compared to the control rats, the korea ginger essential oil treatments significantly reduced the serum concentrations of stress hormone (i.e., ACTH, corticosterone, melatonin). Furthermore, The korea ginger essential oil treatments effectively preserved the TH-immune response was occasionally interrupted in the ventral tegmental area (VTA) and the substantia nigra pars compacta (SNpc). The results indicate that the korea ginger essential oil improved sympathetic hyperactivity. Thus, the korea ginger may be a novel material of aroma oils for the management of sympathetic hyperactivity.

The present study was carried out to compare the composition of major essential oil components in the flue-cured tobacco produced by Korea, America, China, Brazil and Zimbabwe. Above 100 essential oil components were separated by GC and major 18 components of them, known to be important contributors to flue-cured tobacco flavor and smoke taste, were identified by GC/MS. Neophytadiene was major in quantities in the oils mostly and its composition in flue-cured tobacco produced by Korea, America, Zimbabwe, Brazil, and Unnam and Yenji region of China was 26.82\%,\;25.17\%,\;26.50\%,\;16.92\%,\;and\;18.75\%\;and\;14.87\%$, respectively. Megastigmatrienone, one of the major tobacco carotenoid degradation products was contained above $10\%$ in the oils of flue-cured tobacco produced by Korea and America, but, it was comprised about $5.66\%$ to 8.00 in Brazil, Zimbabwe, and Unnam and Yenji region of China. Damascenone is important to the aroma of tobacco as a crotenoid degradation products. Its amount in the oils was $3.31\%\;in\;Brazil,\;3.13\%\;in\;America,\;2.57\%\;in\;Zimbabwe,\;2.54%$ in Yenji of China, $2.00\%$ in Korea and $1.85\%$ in Unnam of China. These results can furnish the basic information capable of evaluating the quality value of flue-cured tobacco produced by various nations.

Background: The essential oil of Ocimum basilicum (EOOB) has a pleasant aroma and is known to have antimicrobial and insecticidal activities. In addition, it is used as a pain reliever in folk medicine. However, there are few reports on the antinociceptive activities of EOOB. Methods: This study examined the antinociceptive effects of EOOB using formalin and a plantar test in mice. In the formalin test, EOOB (50 mg/kg, 100 mg/kg, 150 mg/kg) was administered intraperitoneally and the licking time of the mice was measured. In the plantar test, intraperitoneal EOOB (50 mg/kg, 100 mg/kg) was administered and the withdrawal latency was measured using the Hargreaves method. Results: In the formalin test, EOOB (50 mg/kg, IP) showed significant decreases in licking time in the second phase. On the other hand, in the plantar test, there were no significant effects in any of the groups examined. Conclusions: These results support the traditional use of EOOB for the treatment of painful conditions. However, there is a need for more research to determine the active chemical constituents and the precise mechanism.
This study was aimed to evaluate the effects of Cypress oil(CS) on anti-asthmatic activities in a mouse model of allergic asthma. Using an Ovalbumin-induced allergic asthma mouse model, 0.3% of CS was administered to experimental group using a nebulizer for 3 weeks on a basis of 3 times per week and 30min each time. The degree of airway hypersensitivity, the number of eosinophil in white blood cells, the number of immune cells and the change of cytokine in lung tissue were evaluated. The degree of airway hypersensitivity, the number of eosinophil, IL-5 and IL-13 levels in lung tissue, IgE in serum, the number of CCR3, CD3, CD4 cells were significantly decreased in experimental group treated with CS. These results suggested that CS may have a positive effects on Th2 cytokine and eosinophils which are major factors of asthma responses. Therefore CS might be of therapeutic value in treating asthma.

This study selected 9 species of domestic native plants (Baechohyang, Red Pine, Turmeric, Ginger, San parsley seed, Bulsugam, Hwangchil, Tangja, Valerian) that have been proven effective for depression, and based on the analysis results of each fragrance component, 9 species were selected. Antioxidant (DPPH, ABTS), cytotoxicity (MTS), and anti-inflammatory (Nitric oxide) experiments were performed by combining essential oils. As a result of the analysis of fragrance components, DL-Limonene (38.44%), g-Terpinene (8.9%), Estragole (5.18%), and a-Pinene (1.73%), which were previously studied in combination oil, were identified. DPPH radical scavenging ability, which is an antioxidant activity, showed 75.4%, ABTS radical scavenging ability was 74.04%, and NO production inhibition was 33.14% at a concentration of 5uL/ml with no cytotoxicity confirmed. Through this, the effect of domestic blending essential oils on the improvement or prevention of depression is verified, and scientific efficacy and ingredient studies are conducted in a mutually cooperative manner to seek solutions to depression and provide basic data to confirm whether or not depressive symptoms are improved. want to do.
Objectives : Thymus quinquecistatus var. japonica (H.Hara) is a member of the genus Thymus of perennial aromatic herb, and it's designated as a natural monument of South Korea. It has traditionally been known to have protective or therapeutic effects on various human disease including cerebrovascular and neurological disease. Recently it was suggested that essential oil extracted from thyme has anti-fungal and anti-bacterial effect. The aim of this study is to investigate anti-inflammatory effect of Thymus quinquecistatus var. japonica in Raw 264.7 macrophage cell line. Methods : The cytotoxic effects of water and 70% ethanol extracts from Thymus quinquecistatus var. japonica, was tested using MTT assay. Inhibitory effects of the extracts to nitric oxide production and mRNA expression of inflammatory cytokines were examined by RT-PCR. Also, MitoSOX-red assay and JC-1 assay were performed to determine if the extracts can inhibit mitochondrial ROS accumulation and maintain mitochondrial membrane potential. Results : In LPS-induced inflammatory response, the extracts efficiently reduced nitric oxide NO production through inhibiting mRNA expression of iNOS enzyme. In addition, expression of the proinflammatory cytokines, IL-1𝛽 and IL-6, was also down-regulated by the extract treatments. Excessive accumulation of mitochondrial ROS induced by LPS was inhibited in the extract treated cells, which finally protected mitochondrial membrane potential. Conclusions : These results showed that water and 70% ethanol extracts from Thymus quinquecistatus var. japonica have anti-inflammatory effect through down regulation of IL-1𝛽, IL-6, and iNOS, and also have antioxidative effect against mitochondrial ROS accumulation that promote inflammatory response.

The purposes of this study were to identify the stress level of nursing students prior to clinical training and to examine the effects of aromatherapy on stress, stress perception, and mood during clinical practice. This study was a randomized control trial using a pre-post test conducted from May-July 2016. A total of 41 junior nursing students were recruited. The experimental group (n=22) underwent aroma inhalation using a necklace containing lavender essential oil and a control group (n=19) used a normal saline necklace. There were significant improvements in stress (p=.023) and mood levels in the experimental group (p=.006). The difference in stress perception between the experimental and control groups was not statistically significant (p=.382). Aroma therapy might be useful for decreasing stress and improving their positive mood during clinical practice for nursing students.
