Low-power IP Design and FPGA Implementation for H.264/AVC Encoder (H.264/AVC Encoder용 저전력 IP 설계 및 FPGA 구현)

  • In this paper, we are implemented low-power structure for Inter prediction, Intra prediction, Deblocking filter, Transform and Quantization blocks in H.264/AVC Encoder. The proposed Inter/Intra prediction blocks are shown 60.2% cell area reduction by adder reduction through Distributed Arithmetic, 44.3% add operation reduction using MUX for hardware share in Deblocking filter block. Furthermore we applied CSD and CSS process to reduce the cell area instead of multipliers that take a lot of area. The FPGA(Field Programmable Gate Array) and ARM Process based H.264/AVC encoder is implemented using proposed low power IPs. The proposed structure Platforms are implemented to interlock with FPGA and ARM processors. H.264/AVC Encoder implementation using Platforms shows that proposed low-power IPs can use H.264/AVC Encoder SoC effectively.

Concept Design of the Pantograph for High Speed Trains (고속용 판토그래프의 개념설계)

  • Conceptual design of the pantograph for high speed trains of 350km/h is introduced. The aims to be accomplished in the concept design are the good dynamic performance, low noise, aero-dynamic stability. The resulting mechanism of the pantograph have single-arm type structure with bebel gears to reduce noise sources, symmetric structure for the aero-dynamic stability and the special panhead assembly to obtain good dynamic performances.

Design of a Tag Antenna with a Low Performance Distortion from an Attached Surface Material Using the Asymmetric Dual-Arm Dipole Structure (부착면 표면물질에 의한 성능 왜곡을 최소화한 이중 선로의 비대칭 다이폴 형태 태그 안테나 설계)

  • In this paper we proposed the tag antenna with a low performance distortion from an attached surface material using the asymmetric dual-arm dipole antenna(ADDA) structure. The tag is designed to exhibit low performance changes when the tag is attached on a target object(the medical litter receptacle, ${\varepsilon}_r=1.7,\;tan\;{\delta}=0.002$). Detail design parameters for the proposed antenna are optimized to maintain a good readable range in free-space as well as on a target object. The size of the optimized antenna is $100\;mm{\times}50\;mm$. The antenna shows the matching bandwidth($S_{11}$< -10 dB) of 3.7 % and the radiation efficiency of 80 % at the operating frequency. Finally we confirmed the readable range of the tag antenna by measurement and it shows about 5.3 m in free space and 5.5 m on the target object.

  • This thesis proposes an automatic instruction extension system that utilizes retargetable compiler, based on MDL, to design an ASIP optimized for application. The proposed system uses information gathered from the application program to find all possible expandable instruction candidates. Expandable instruction candidates acquire the realization characteristics through hardware library. The system chooses instruction set and optimizes processor structure satisfying constraints on the bases of hardware characteristics and increase in execution speed. To confirm the efficiency of the proposed system, automatic instruction extension system was performed using various benchmark applications. The proposed system acquired optimized instruction set and processor structure, which are expanded from the commercial version of ARM9TDMI. Experimental results show that number of execution cycle has been reduced by 33.5% when compared to conventional version of ARM9TDMI, while area has been slightly increased.

The Structures of Feeding Organs in Two Korean Ricefishes (Pisces, Adrianichthyidae), Oryzias latipes and O. sinensis (한국산 송사리속 Oryzias 2종 섭이기관의 구조적 특징)

  • Structure on the feeding organs in two Korean ricefishes, Oryzias latipes and O. sinensis, was examined in the jaws and the teeth. In the jaw, O. latipes has a dent on the dorsal edge of distal arm of premaxilla (vs. straight in O. sinensis) and a alveolar arm of premaxilla running in straight line with distal arm of premaxilla (vs. ventra line in O. sinensis). O. latipes has also a dent on the posterior edge of dentary which is connected to coronoid process of dentary (vs. straight in O. sinensis). Large teeth developing only in the male, which is sexual dimorphism, developed into outside direction of the mandible in O. latipes (vs. dorsal direction in O. sinensis). In the teeth forms, O. latipes has two types (conical type and arrowhead type), whereas O. sinensis has only one type (conical type). Through this study, we confirmed that two Korean ricefishes show distinctive characteristics in the structure of the feeding organs.

  • In this research, a parametric study was carried out to design a metal-carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) hybrid pantograph for weight reduction of high speed train (KTX). To design a light-weight and high-stiffness pantograph, some parts of the original steel upper arm was replaced by CFRPs with appropriate stacking sequences. For the parametric study, steel was replaced by aluminium considering structure stiffness and weight of hybrid upperarm of a pantograph. Finite element analysis (FEA) was performed for checking the structure stiffness with varying design parameters. Static vertical load stiffness and weight changing ratio were derived from real CX-PG pantograph model analyses. From the FEA results, the geometries of high-stiffness, light-weight pantograph have been suggested.

  • In this paper we have examined the usefulness of IWFR (the iterative wave-function reconstruction) analysis for through-focal series of high-resolution images for a relative thick crystal. In the work we employed JEOL ARM 1300S, and observed the high-resolution images for a Si crystal at the two orientations of [01-1] and [11-2] having 30 nm and 35 nm thickness respectively. As a result of applying IWFR method on the images we found out that even for a thick crystal by the method we can retrieve the exit-surface wave function. However because of the strong dynamical scattering effect, the image pattern of the function reflects only qualitatively the atomic column structure of the crystal examined. Nevertheless it is no doubt that the pattern would give important clue for the crystal structure.

  • In this paper, we design and fabricate a dual liner polarization sinuous antenna with improved cross polarization isolation (XPI). The proposed antenna is composed of four arm radiators for generating dual linear polarization and excited by wideband microstrip balun with Klopfenstein taper structure. Also, two-step cylindrical cavity structure is applied to reduce back radiation. Honeycomb-typed absorbing material is inserted into the cavity to reduce performance degradation by reflected wave. To enhance cross polarization isolation in low frequency band, resistors are adapted between outer arm and the rim of cavity. We confirmed that the fabricated antenna can be applied for polarization measurement due to improved XPI in the low band.

Experimental Study of the Robot Arm Applying the Gravity Compensator (중력보상기를 적용한 로봇 팔의 실험적 연구)

  • In this paper, the structure of a gravity compensator(GC) was studied, and the 6-axis robot manipulator which is newly developed by applying the GC is presented to improve the torque performance and repeatability error of the robot joint. The kinematics analysis on the robot was presented. Also, experiments of the performance of the joint actuator of robot adopting the gravity compensator were presented by the GC to $1^{st}$ and $2^{nd}$ joints of the robot arm. According to the experiment results, it was validated that the position errors and load torque of the robot joint actuator adopting the GC are reduced significantly.
