  • This paper describes performance improvement of GPS/DR Integration system using area decision algorithm and vehicle movement information. In GPS signal blockage area, i.e., tunnel and underground parking area, DR sensor errors are accumulated and navigation solution is gradually diverged. We use the car movement information according to moving area to correct the DR sensor error. Also, vehicle movement is decided as stop, straight line, turn and movement changing region through DR sensor data analysis. The car experiment is performed to verify the supposed method. The results show that supposed method provides small position and heading error than previous method.

  • This paper presents a method for determining machining parameters in electrical discharge machining process (EDM) based on discharge area. The parameters are the peak value of currents, the pulse-on time, and the pulse-off time, on which the EDM performance depends chiefly. The optimal machining parameters are closely related on discharge area, which can be calculated from a tool electrode and a discharge height. In the paper the discharge area is obtained from NC code for machining the tool electrode instead of its geometric model. The method consists of following three steps. First a Z-Map model is constructed from the NC code. Secondly, the discharge area is obtained from the Z-Map model and a Z-height. Finally, the machining parameters are calculated from the discharge area. An introduced example shows that the machining parameters are calculated by the using a Z-map model obtained from the machining data for a tool electrode.

  • Comparative analyses of a shield building subjected to a large commercial aircraft impact between decoupling method and coupling method are performed in this paper. The decoupling method is applying impact force time-history curves on impact area of the shield building to study impact damage effects on structure. The coupling method is using a model including aircraft and shield building to perform simulation of the entire impact process. Impact force time-history curves of the fuselage, wing and engine and their total impact force time-history curve are obtained by the entire aircraft normally impacting the rigid wall. Taking aircraft structure and impact progress into account some loading areas are determined to perform some comparative analyses between decoupling method and coupling method, the calculation results including displacement, plastic strain of concrete and stress of steel plate in impact area are given. If the loading area is determined unreasonably, it will be difficult to assess impact damage of impact area even though the accurate impact force of each part of aircraft obtained already. The coupling method presented at last in this paper can more reasonably evaluate the dynamic response of the shield building than the decoupling methods used in the current nuclear engineering design.

  • This paper describes a procedure extracting feature vector of a target cell more precisely in the case of identifying specified cell. The classification of object type is based on feature vector such as area, complexity, centroid, rotation angle, effective diameter, perimeter, width and height of the object So, the feature vector plays very important role in classifying objects. Because the feature vectors is affected by noises and holes, it is necessary to remove noises contaminated in original image to get feature vector extraction exactly. In this paper, we propose the following method to do to get feature vector extraction exactly. First, by Otsu's optimal threshold selection method and morphological filters such as cleaning, filling and opening filters, we separate objects from background an get rid of isolated particles. After the labeling step by 4-adjacent neighborhood, the labeled image is filtered by the area filter. From this area-filtered image, feature vector such as area, complexity, centroid, rotation angle, effective diameter, the perimeter based on chain code and the width and height based on rotation matrix are extracted. To prove the effectiveness, the proposed method is applied for yeast Zygosaccharomyces rouxn. It is also shown that the experimental results from the proposed method is more efficient in measuring feature vectors than from only Otsu's optimal threshold detection method.

  • This paper presents the area classification, identification, and tracking for multiple moving objects with the similar colors. To do this, first, we use the GMM(Gaussian Mixture Model)-based background modeling method to detect the moving objects. Second, we propose the use of the binary and morphology of image in order to eliminate the shadow and noise in case of detection of the moving object. Third, we recognize ROI(region of interest) of the moving object through labeling method. And, we propose the area classification method to remove the background from the detected moving objects and the novel method for identifying the classified moving area. Also, we propose the method for tracking the identified moving object using Kalman filter. To the end, we propose the effective tracking method when detecting the multiple objects with the similar colors. Finally, we demonstrate the feasibility and applicability of the proposed algorithms through some experiments.

  • I developed an enhanced correction method for Ricean bias which occurs in linear polarization measurement. Two known methods for Ricean bias correction are reviewed. In low signal-to-noise area, the method based on the mode of the equation gives better representation of the fractional polarization. But a caution should be given that the accurate estimation of noise level, i.e. ${\sigma}$ of the polarized flux, is important. The maximum likelihood method is better choice for high signal-to-noise area. I suggest a hybrid method which uses the mode of the equation at the low signal-to-noise area and takes the maximum likelihood method at the high signal-to-noise area. A modified correction coefficient for the mode solution is proposed. The impact on the depolarization measure analysis is discussed.

  • It is essential to obtain accurate and highly reliable streamflow data for water resources planning, evaluation and management as well as design of hydraulic structures. A new discharge estimation method, which is named 'non-dimensional velocity distribution and index-velocity method,' was proposed in this research. This method showed very close channel discharges which were calculated with the exiting velocity-area method. When velocity-area method is used to estimate channel discharge, it is required to observe point velocities at every desired point and vertical using a current meter like Price-AA. However 'non-dimensional velocity distribution and index-velocity method' is used, it become optional to observe point velocities at every desired point and vertical. But this method can not be applied for the cases of very complex and strongly asymmetric channel cross-sections because non-dimensional velocity distribution by entropy concept may be quite biased from that of natural rivers.

  • Recently, information-oriented whole domain and scientific management method for nation-wide territory is widly being used due to the remarkable development such as GIS and RS. In addition to this, request for analyzing forest spatial information has been increasing to manage forest resources efficiently. Although forest information using satellite image and GIS has been built to analyze a large amount of forest information scientifically, there are many difficulties to gather information because normally forest area is large and difficult to access.. This research uses high resolution satellite and digital aerial photograph around Kyungju city area to classify forest area, and stratifies forest area through a spot survey and a comparison of sample area. It will be possible for us to draw a more detailed map of forest area than 1/25000 map of forest area through these works.

  • These days, surveying instruments are developing rapidly and the precision is improving continuously. The building of three dimensional terrains of high precision are possible and the calculation of the areas or the volumes have high precision due to the development of the technique of the spatial information system using computer. But actually, in construction site they calculate two-dimensional area using the traditional method, plate table surveying, planimeter, and then get three-dimensional area through multiplying two-dimensional area by the slope correction factor. In this study, we show the defect and inefficiency of the calculation of area by the traditional methods and survey the area with Electric Distance Measurement and GPS instrument. With this data, we made the three dimensional terrain model and calculated two-dimensional area, three-dimensional area. After that, we compared areas that calculated by algorithm of triangulated irregular network and analysis of grid method with standard area that calculated by the traditional method. Finally, this paper suggested more effective and precious method in calculating three-dimensional area.

  • In the study, an accuracy of earthwork volume is evaluated according to different methods of the calculation with different criteria. The criteria applied to this study are a interpolation method, a grid intavals and the method of earthwork evaluation. A numerical test has performed on two different terrain models with four different methods of calculation in the earthwork volume and two different grid intervals. The end area method, prismoidal formular, Simpson's formular, and middle area method are applied to the calculation of the earthwork volume. As a result of this study, it is showed that the moving average method with the first order term gives the most accurate result in interpolation, and that also the prismoidal formular and Simpson's formular gives more accurate result than average and area method and middle area method in the calculation of earthwork volume.
