  • Securing the appropriability strategy of R&D funding for technology innovation is very important because R&D needs a lot of time and money. Appropriability means the environmental factors that govern an innovator's ability to capture profits generated by an innovation. Generally appropriability mechanism has five kinds, including patent, secrecy, lead time advantage, complementary sales & service, complementary manufacturing. In this paper, we surveyed domestic software industry professionals about appropriability mechanism strategy, and presented a result of priority of each factor and difference between previous research and this study, using the pair-wise comparison method. The result of study showed that domestic IT manufacturing companies prefer patent better than other appropriability mechanism.

  • As the technology advances and convergence progresses, companies are increasingly interested in the appropriability mechanism. Therefore in this study tried to understand the effectiveness of the appropriability mechanism of domestic IT companies. To this end, 7 appropriability mechanisms were finally derived and empirically analyzed from a review of previous studies and experts. As a result of the analysis, the importance of lead time advantage, patent, secrecy, complementary sales and service, design registered, complementary manufacturing, and learning curve effect was shown in the order of SW companies. HW companies, the importance of patent, secrecy, lead time advantage, design registered, complementary sales and service, learning curve effect, and complementary manufacturing were shown in the order of importance. Also patent, secrecy, and lead time advantage was selected as important factors. The results of in this study are expected to be used as useful guidelines on establishing an appropriability mechanism strategy in companies.

  • In devising technological innovation strategies and implementing successful technological innovation, some of the most important factors may be to determine whether to protect technological innovation and to choose how to protect it. Traditionally, technological innovation has been emphasized to obtain compensation as much as possible for innovation in terms of economics and strategy. However, it can be regarded as a very complicated problem to determine such a protection and its level. Generally speaking, enterprises have some common mechanisms to secure compensation for technological innovation, which are known to be patents, secrecy and lead time advantage. From the standpoint of enterprises, it is very important what strategies should be devised to secure profits for technological innovation. According to some domestic and oversea research results revealed that specific patents are not the best way to Appropriability for technological innovation, while also implying that there exist several different kinds of mechanisms to Appropriability for technological innovation in each industry. Nevertheless, since it shouldn't be ignored that most of the researches have overlooked the characteristics of Korean enterprises and industrial differences, this study intends to clarify the effectiveness of technological innovation Appropriability mechanisms reflecting actual circumstances and industrial characteristics in Korea while classifying them. Also The questionnaires and delphi method used in this study. As the result of analysis, in the entire industries, the priorities turned out to be in the order of Superior sales and service efforts, Leadtime advantage, Complementary manufacturing.

Therefore, in this study, based on the previous study, in the Delphi survey, eight factors were finally derived, and the eight factors were surveyed by practitioners of Chinese companies about their own mechanism. As a result of analysis, the importance of one's mechanism based on the industry as a whole is patent, design registration, lead time, confidentiality, complementary manufacturing, complementary sales and services, design complexity, learning curve effect / economies of scale. • In this study, in addition to non-technical innovation activities such as organizational innovation and marketing innovation, the purpose of this study was to verify through empirical analysis what mechanism appropriation affects the business performance of a company. Data were collected from the 2018 Korean Business Innovation Survey: Manufacturing Sector and used as analysis data. As a result of the analysis, it was verified through empirical analysis that non-technical innovation improves management performance, appropriability is affected by non-technical innovation, and acts as a mediating factor between management performance. Through this empirical analysis, it was derived that considering appropriation along with non-technical innovation on the recently studied non-technical innovation can be a meaningful study, and since securing such appropriation is an important factor in determining the business performance of a company. Companies need insight into the strategic use of technology protection measures to secure appropriation. As a limitation, it was limited to studies that verify that it has a mediating effect of non-technical innovation and appropriation, and it is considered that it is possible to develop a study that affects the management performance of a company through more various verification methods for future studies.
