  • Limitations of the simple single degree of freedom vibration isolation theory in real applications are discussed and a theory of multi-dimensional vibration/noise isolation by power approach is introduced. Illustrations of the application to compressor of an air-conditioner are presented together with problems caused by approximations. Then possible sources of distortions in the vibration power estimation are looked into and some relevant research topics are suggested.

  • A probabilistic model of burr formation in face milling of gray cast iron is proposed. During a face milling operation, an irregular pattern of the edge profile consisting of burrs and edge breakouts is observed at the end of cut. Based on the metal cutting theory, we derive a probabilistic model. The operational bayesian modeling approach is adopted to include the relevant theory in the model.

  • Raman vibrational Q0branch spectra of pure CO are measured by using the technique of quasicw inverse Raman spectroscopy utilizing a pulsed single-frequency laser source. This approach gives enhanced sensitivity compared to earlier work which employed CW lasers, allowing extension of that work to higher accuracy, higher J states, and higher pressure. Fitting laws with pertubation theory and modified energy gap(MEG) theory are described, and the line broadening and shifting coefficients of J=0 to 24 are determined with both fitting laws.

  • The Cayley-Bacharach theorem says that every cubic curve on an algebraically closed field that passes through a given 8 points must contain a fixed ninth point, counting multiplicities. Ren et al. introduced a concrete formula for the ninth point in terms of the 8 points [4]. We would like to consider a different approach to find the ninth point via the theory of truncated moment problems. Various connections between algebraic geometry and truncated moment problems have been discussed recently; thus, the main result of this note aims to observe an interplay between linear algebra, operator theory, and real algebraic geometry.

  • Throughout the six decades evolution of the public diplomacy concept, international relations approaches have remained at the margins of the field. An important international relations theory that has been virtually non-existent in the public diplomacy literature is the English School of international relations. This theory has been the centerpiece of literature in diplomatic studies, but curiously, has not been applied to public diplomacy. In this editorial, I outline a public diplomacy framework for global governance issues that builds on the English School and Pamment's framework on the intersection of international development and public diplomacy.

  • Belief network(or Bayesian network) based on Bayes' rule in probabilistic theory can be applied to the reasoning of diagnostic systems. This paper describes the basic theory of concept and feasibility of using the network for diagnosis of nuclear power plants. An example shows that the probabilities of root causes of a failure are calculated from the measured or believed evidences.

  • Among various joint ventures, International Construction Joint Ventures (ICJVs) have emerged as a popular approach worldwide to developing large scale projects through international participation. A model, based on economic analysis and represented by several hypotheses obtained from the analysis, will be developed. Furthermore, we will empirically test the hypotheses/model using Structural Equation Model (SEM). This research is expected to explain why there exist different organizational forms for ICJVs, and to develop a framework for choosing appropriate forms with respect to various characteristics of ICJVs.

  • This study was carried out qualitative study to figure out the process of the perception of creativity conception by kindergarten teachers in Korea. The interviewees are 4 current teachers in kindergarten in Seoul. Data was collected from semi-structured in-depth interview. Collected data were analyzed using Modified Grounded Theory Approach by Kinoshita, a kind of qualitative research method. As a result of data analysis, kindergarten teachers who experts in child education understood key concepts of creativity as unique thinking and rich expression ability. Such concept is mainly acquired at the class in which direct encounter with children is made. Besides, they formed the concept of creativity through reading books and articles, graduate studies and teaching Nuri Curriculum. In the preceding studies on the concept of creativity targeted to elementary and secondary school teachers, they had shared wide concept, but kindergarten teachers shared only some key concepts on creativity. This result would mean that the concept of creativity in the early children education is relatively coherent and such concept and teaching method are relatively well delivered to children at the education field.

  • Crane systems are very important in industrial fields to carry heavy objects such that many investigations about control of the systems are actively conducted for enhancing its control performance. This paper presents an adaptive control approach using the model matching for a complex 3-DOF nonlinear crane system. First, the system model is linearized through feedback linearization method and then PD control is applied in the approximated model. This linear model is considered as nominal to derive corrective control law for a perturbed crane model using Lyapunov theory. This corrective control is primitively aimed to compensate real-time control deviation due to partially known perturbation. We additionally study stability analysis of the crane control system using Lyapunov perturbation theory. Evaluation of our control approach is numerically carried out through computer simulation and its superiority is demonstrated comparing with the classical control.

  • Utilizing a qualitative multimethod approach, this study was to discover and improve the understanding of occupational socialization process of librarians. Through theoretical sampling, 42 participants were in-deathly interviewed at three studies, i.e phenomenological, ethnographic, and grounded theory approach. Analyzed data were finally integrated using grounded theory approach. 'Acquiring Social Recognition as an Information Professional' was emerged as the core category for describing and guiding the occupational socialization process. A seven-stage process was discovered: 'Adapting', 'Experiencing being the Periphery', 'Perceiving the Role', 'Pursuing the advancement', 'Realizing the professionality', 'Rediscovering the Value', and 'Showing the Professionality'. Especially, 'Experiencing being the Periphery' was identified as a critical and unique process, reflected the perceived status of librarians in Korea. Also, it discussed characteristics and socialization strategies of the process.
