  • This paper considers the delay-dependent stability of linear systems with a time-varying delay in the frame work of Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional(LKF) approach. In this approach, an integral inequality is essential to estimate the upper bound of time-derivative of LKF, and a less conservative one is needed to get a less conservative stability result. In this paper, based on free weighting matrices, an improved integral inequality encompassing well-known results is proposed and then a stability result in the form of linear matrix inequality is derived based on an augmented LKF. Finally, two well-known numerical examples are given to demonstrate the usefulness of the proposed result.

  • In bus delay-tolerant networks, the route of bus is determinate but its arrival time is indeterminate. However, most conventional approaches predict future contact without considering its uncertainty, which makes a limitation on routing performance. A novel approach is proposed by employing interval algebra to characterize the contact's uncertainty and time-varying nature. The contact is predicted by using the Bayesian estimation to achieve a better routing performance. Simulation results show that this approach achieves a good balance between delivery latency and delivery ratio.

  • We propose an intelligent predictive control approach for a nonlinear networked control system (NCS) with time-varying delay and random observation. The control is given by the sum of a nominal control and a corrective control. The nominal control is determined analytically using a linearized system model with fixed time delay. The corrective control is generated online by a neural network optimizer. A Markov chain (MC) dynamic Bayesian network (DBN) predicts the dynamics of the stochastic system online to allow predictive control design. We apply our proposed method to a satellite attitude control system and evaluate its control performance through computer simulation.

  • The dynamic system approach in time series has been used in many real problems. Based on Taken's embedding theorem, we can build the predictive function where input is the time delay coordinates vector which consists of the lagged values of the observed series and output is the future values of the observed series. Although the time delay coordinates vector from multivariate time series brings more information than the one from univariate time series, it can exhibit statistical redundancy which disturbs the performance of the prediction function. We apply dimension reduction techniques to solve this problem and analyze the effect of this approach for prediction. Our experiment uses delayed Lorenz series; least squares support vector regression approximates the predictive function. The result shows that linearly preserving projection improves the prediction performance.

  • This paper presents a new state feedback control approach for communication networks based control systems in which control input and output observation time-delay natures are generally occurred in practice. We first establish a generic state feedback control framework based on well-known linear system theory. A maximum time-delay value which allows critical stability of whole control system are defined to make a positive definite Lyapunov function which is mathematically composed of controlled system states. We analytically derive its control parameters by using a steepest descent optimization method in order to guarantee a stability condition through Lyapunov theory. Computer simulation is numerically carried out for demonstrating reliability of the proposed NCS algorithm and a comparative study is accomplished to prove its superiority for which the traditional control approach for NCS is made use of under same simulation scenarios.

  • Controlled traffic intersection is critical point in terms of transportation network performance, where the most of traffic congestion arises. One of the most important and favorable measure of effectiveness in the signal controlled intersection is approach delay. Although lots of efforts to develop traffic delay estimation models have been made throughout the years, most of them were focusing on homogeneous traffic flow. The purpose of this research is to develop a traffic delay estimation model for traffic flow mixed with bus based on the horizontal shockwave theory. Traffic simulation is performed to test the adaptation level of the model in generic environment. The result shows that the delay increases with increasing bus traffic. Overall model accuracy comparing simulation result is acceptable, that shows the error range around 10 percent.

  • Some of the control systems used in engineering structures that use sensors and decision systems have some time delay reducing efficiency of the control system or even might make it unstable. In this research, in addition to considering the effect of the time delay in vibration control process, predictive control is used to compensate the time delay. A semi-active vibration control approach with the help of magneto-rheological dampers is implemented. In addition to using fuzzy inference system to determine the appropriate control voltage for MR damper, structural behavior prediction system and specifying future responses are also used such that the time delays occurring within control process are overcome. For this purpose, determination of prediction horizon is conducted for one, five, and ten steps ahead for single degree of freedom structures with periods ranging from 0.1 to 4 seconds, subjected to twenty earthquake excitations. The amount of time delay applied to the control system is 0.1 seconds. The obtained results indicate that for 0.1 second time delay, average prediction error values compared to the case without time delay is 3.47 percent. Having 0.1 second time delay in a semi-active control system reduces its efficiency by 11.46 percent; while after providing the control system with structure behavior prediction, the difference in the results for the control system without time delay is just 1.35 percent on average; indicating a 10.11 percent performance improvement for the control system.

  • This paper concerns delay-dependent guaranteed cost control (GCC) problem for a class of linear state-delayed systems with norm-bounded time-varying parametric uncertainties. By incorporating the free weighing matrix approach developed recently, new delay-dependent conditions for the existence of the guaranteed cost controller are presented in terms of matrix inequalities for both nominal state-delayed systems and uncertain state-delayed systems. An algorithm involving convex optimization is proposed to design a controller achieving a suboptimal guaranteed cost such that the system can be stabilized for all admissible uncertainties. Through numerical examples, it is shown that the proposed method can yield less guaranteed cost than the existing delay-dependent methods.

  • This paper presents new results on delay-dependent global exponential stability for uncertain linear systems with interval time-varying delay. Based on Lyapunov-Krasovskii functional approach, some novel delay-dependent stability criteria are derived in terms of linear matrix inequalities (LMIs) involving the minimum and maximum delay bounds. By using delay-partitioning method and the lower bound lemma, less conservative results are obtained with fewer decision variables than the existing ones. Numerical examples are given to illustrate the usefulness and effectiveness of the proposed method.

  • In this paper we propose an efficient robust path delay fault test genration algorithm for detection of path delay faluts in combinational ligic circuits. In the proposed robust test genration approach, the testability measure is computed for all gates in the circuit under test and these computed values are used to genrate weighted random delay test vetors for detection of path delay faults. For genrated robust test vectors, we perform fault simulation on ISCAS '85 benchmark circuits using parallel pattern technqieus. The results indicate that the proposed test genration method not only increases the number of detected robust path delay faults but also reduces the time taen to genrate robust tests.
