The aim of this study is to explore key strategy areas for academic library development planning in Korea. This study started with components of an academic library development plan that were identified in a literature review; those components included among others the major roles, functions, resources, and teaching and research support services of academic libraries. Upon interviewing library staff from 14 academic libraries, this study initially categorized those components into 4 overarching strategy areas and further subdivided them into 12 key components and 24 sub-components. That initial categorization was then reviewed by 6 scholars and practitioners, applying the analytic hierarchy process (AHP), by which this study analyzed the level of importance and priority of the strategy areas and various components. Based on the results, this study ultimately outlines 11 key components and 23 sub-components under the 4 strategy areas for academic libraries in Korea to take into consideration in their development planning.

The research is intended to establish the importance of background knowledge in reading process and suggest a revitalization plan for the schema for reading education. The reading process as fundamental research and the schema conception have been studied and the present situation of reading education in the school libraries has been inspected. This research reviewed the reading strategies which school libraries require for the revitalization of the schema and based on this data, a method of SQ3R reading has been applied and a class model developed. As an outcome, a guidance plan for instruction was proposed and learning-activity materials applying graphic organizer have been produced. Subsequently, a class in school library was conducted. Following the outcome of the class and an expert's review of the class model, this research has developed a class model for the revitalization of the schema for reading education in school libraries.

This study aimed to investigate present status of online reference shelf and analyze access point in the home page and types of online reference sources in the university library. Data were collected by accessing home pages of 41 university libraries in the region of Seoul and Kyonggi-Do. 30 libraries had prepared reference shelf out of 41 libraries, and "User Service", "Electronic Reference Sources", or "Reference & Information Sources" were mostly used as home page menu. Types of references sources varied among libraries, and "Directories", "Dictionaries", "Statistics" or "Encyclopedias" were mostly loaded types in the reference shelf. For the enhancement of reference services through reference shelf, establishing and applying standards for evaluation, ease of access, access by subject, and continuous updates and additions of reference sources were suggested.

This thesis investigated disabled students' actual status of applying for university libraries. This thesis investigated how many times the university disabled students utilized the libraries, if facilities, apparatuses, materials, and regular employees were operated properly, and if they were established actually on the target at thirty private university libraries located at Seoul and Gyeonggi regions in operation of specially screening the objective students for special education in 2008. The investigation found that the general operation level of university libraries for disabled students were less than "medium"(average 2.38). As for utilization ratio, the most university students responded that "they didn't utilize libraries so many times(60%)". As for the response ratio of university library facilities and services, the most university students responded, "very insufficient", 99 items(32.27%), and the least university students responded, "very excellent", 28 items(7.0%). On the other hand, as for the analysis of each field, building facilities, in all of the items, were established more than "medium"(average 3.26), but material preparation level(average 1.8 point), employee education for softly supporting disabled students, and library utilization education on the target at disabled students(average 1.87) were less than "insufficient". Especially, the field of service was "insufficient level"(average 2.48), and standard deviation was more than 1.4. Manpower stationing and material delivery services have the biggest standard deviation between universities. So, this investigation found that university libraries reformed access to facilities a lot, but that its level of fundamental policy for library, such as materials, manpower, and the education on utilization, were in insufficient level.

Log scaling which decides a quality grade of log is influence the price of log at the market. It is the one of important works at the field until now. So it remains using a ruler traditionally. This study evaluated the automating program through compared the automating program with using a ruler for log. The automating program used libraries of OpenCV concerning image processing algorithm to measure log diameter for scaling. In addition, it applies two panels of checkered pattern beside a pile of logs and tapes on the surface of a log diameter to find a correct value. We analyzed statistical mean difference of both log diameter and volume. In conclusion, the automating program after applying check panel and taping ins't different using a ruler. Therefore we need to considerate about applying it for improving Forest Administration.

For public libraries to deliver appropriate information to various types of users in information society that allows people to access and use a variety of information, it is necessary to provide services applying the universal design principles in terms of universality. The purpose of this study is to develop the evaluation indicators for universality of public library services, which apply universal design principles to evaluate if public libraries provide appropriate services that meet their original purpose. The final 'Evaluation Indicators of Universality of Public Library Services' consist of six evaluation areas and 41 evaluation contents in 10 evaluation items. Each evaluation content is categorized into a relevant factor among five universal design applicable factors (Universality, Convenience, Recognition, Safety and Economic Feasibility) according to its characteristics.

This study aims to suggest the ways to apply Information Commons to local university libraries, which face various changes in users and information environment, for using the libraries' space more effectively and for providing users with more satisfying services. Information Commons, which is a concept having been gradually spreading mainly in the U.S. from the early 1990's, is a service place where users can work out anything related to their studies or various lecture-related jobs because they are provided with various information and electronic resources in that one spot. Researches show that physical and human resources should be prepared before executing Information Commons to minimize the problems and to maximize the effectiveness from applying it. Physical resources are such as PC rooms, multimedia rooms, education rooms, one person or group study rooms, and cafe or lounge. Human resources are the librarians who can do reference services including giving the lectures on using library information resources and who can solve the operating problems related to IT.

This study measures the efficiency of public libraries, library services, and management to contribute to the proposed model for efficiency analysis, reflecting the characteristics in public libraries. This analysis model of applying the empirical research pursues the solutions to provide efficiency. Although many attempts have been made domestically and internationally to study the measurement of the efficiency, mere application of analysis techniques used in the other public sectors has led to the inadequate measurement for characteristics of library services. In addition, there has not been any attempt made to deduce a general theory for the study from the measurement results. In this study, an analysis model that reflects the inherent characteristics in library services is suggested to be analyzed empirically, and this leads to the understanding of efficiency factors. The results of the study show that the efficiency of current public libraries can be increased on the basis of input and output. Therefore the commitment to increase the level of output to meet the current need shall continue by the amount, rather than by the commitment to reduce the level of input. Finally, the factors influencing the efficiency are the number of users, the physical environment, professional staffs, events planning, and electronic resources. After analyzing the five factors via multiple regression analysis, three factors such as the number of users, professional staff and events planning proved causal relationship with the efficiency.

Purpose: The definition and factors of passive design being the sustainable method of building plan through the preceding research is deducted and the effect of passive design within the public library by applying the deducted factors in the case of built public libraries and further the realization plan of green library aimed to be reviewed in this research. Method: This study is to induce common elements of architecture plan for public library and passive design, and assess application level of re-classified elements of sustainable public library in order to analyze present condition of passive design applied on facilities of public library. First, related laws and planning standards of public library will be reviewed, then the definition of passive design will be considered using advanced research. Through advanced research related to planing elements and passive design for library induced from various plans for library standards, a common ground of induced passive design element will be transformed into assessment items and practices to be analyzed. Result: Libraries which are and are not preliminarily certified by G-SEED will be compared with each other in order to analyze the effects of passive design on G-SEED. Even though various passive elements such as load reduction of air conditioning and energy efficiency exist, there are no assessment tool within G-SEED. The fact that there are only standards for temporary methods such as utilization of construction material and installation of equipment highlights the challenges in quantitative evaluation.

This study tried to provide users with customized services by applying the CRM theory of the MyLibrary functions of the academic library system. The first data were collected through documentary survey and homepage survey, and case study of domestic and overseas college libraries was performed and 3 systems among academic library systems were selected to conduct a survey with their librarians and users of the academic libraries. It was found that librarians in charge of each function of services didn't much utilize information data of users created in the MyLibrary functions. As for an improvement method, it was suggested that systematic management to raise recognition on CRM and utilize it as feedback data is required in order to provide high quality services as well as customized information services to users based on data created in MyLibrary.
