Generally not only the radial load but also the moment may be applied to the ball bearings for a shaft system. However it has been difficult to determine the static equivalent load because there is the radial static equivalent equation only for the axial and radial force on the bearings. In this paper, the same static equivalent radial load which makes the maximum contact force at the interface between the ball and groove as the applied radial force and moment generate is calculated under the condition that the radial force and the moment are applied to the bearings simultaneously. The relation between the static equivalent load and applied force is studied. Therefore the simple and effective equation for the static equivalent radial load of the radial load and moment is proposed for the deep groove ball bearings.

An engineering method is suggested to calculate the applied load versus crack extension in the elastic-plastic fracture. The condition for an increment of crack extension is set by a critical increment of crack-up opening displacement(CTOD). The ratio of the CTOD increment to the incremental crack extention is a critical crack-tip opening angle(CTOA), assumed to be constant for a material of a given thickness. The Dugdale model of crack-tip deformation in an infinite plate is applied to the method, and a complete solution for crack extension and crack instability is obtained. For finite-size specimens of arbitrary geometry in general yielding, an approximate generalization of the Dugdale model is suggested so that the approximation approaches the small-scale yielding solution in a low applied load and the finite-element solution in a large applied load. Maximum load is calculated so that an applied load attains either a limit load on an unbroken ligament or a peak load during crack extension. The proposed method was applied to three-point bend specimens of a carbon steel SM45C in various sizes. Reasonable agreements are found between calculated maximum loads and experimental failure loads. Therefore, the method can be a viable alternative to the J-R curve approach in the elastic-plastic fracture analysis.
This study estimated ultimate load by the determination methods based on ultimate load, yield load and settlement using experimental data from static load tests that applied load to driven piles used in sandy grounds at home and overseas until failure appeared markedly. Estimated ultimate load was normalized with actually measured failure load, and was compared among the determination methods according to the characteristics of pile. In addition, I have identified to the determination methods suitable for estimating ultimate load, and reevaluated the safety factor when determining allowable load. From the results of this study were drawn conclusions as follows. Among ultimate loads estimated by the ultimate-load-based determination methods, the value interpreted by Chin's method tended to overestimate actual measurements, and B. Hansen 80% standard and the stability plot method were considered most reliable as their results were closest to actual measurements. According to the results of this study, in calculating the allowable load, if the safety factor to be applied to failing load obtained by the method of determining extreme load is converted to the safety factor applied to the Standards for Structure Foundation Design, a value larger than 3.0 should be applied except the B. Hansen 90% method, and a value larger than 2.0 should be applied in the methods of determining yield load. In addition, if the safety factor to be applied to load obtained by the settlement standard is converted based on safety factor 3.0 for extreme load, a value smaller than 3.0 should be applied to the total settlement standard and the net settlement standard.
In this work, the effect of applied load on the wear behavior of Al/SiC composites was studied. Al/SiC composites were fabricated following the thermal spray process. Dry sliding wear tests were performed on these composites under four different applied loads, i.e., 5, 10, 15, and 20 N. The wear behaviors of the composites under these applied loads were investigated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). Under applied loads of up to 15 N, the wear rates of Al/SiC composites decreased with an increase in the applied load because of the formation of an adhesion layer on the worn surface. However in the case of an applied load of 20 N, the wear rate was significantly high because the formation and fracture of the adhesion layer were repeated continuously. These results show that the wear behaviors of the tested composites are significantly influenced owing to the applied loads.
This article aims at investigating the effect of applied load and sliding speed on wear behavior of thermally spraryed STS316 coating. STS316 coatings were fabricated by flame spray process according to optimal parameters on steel substrates. Dry sliding wear tests were performed on STS316 coating using four different applied load as 10, 15, 20 and 25 N and four different sliding speed as 15, 30, 45 and 60 rpm. Wear behavior on worn surface was investigated using scanning electron microscope(SEM) and energy disperive X-ray spectroscopy(EDS). The dominant wear mechanism of STS316 coating under low applied load and sliding speed was oxidation on worn surface. However, under high applied load and sliding speed the principal wear mechanism was abrasion on oxidation film and damage of oxidation film.
The purpose of this study is to establish a standard for unit cooling load in central control type apartment applied district cooling. The model of unit household was selected. And the standard of coefficient of overall heat transmission, location of unit household, indoor air temperature, solar radiation & thermal conduction at window and interior load was selected, and region, expansion or non-expansion of balcony, pyeong type, azimuth, rate of window area was applied as parameter. And then cooling load simulation was performed. Based on the result of simulation, the synthetic district cooling load was presented for selecting heat source of apartment applied district cooling, and unit cooling load was analyzed according to design parameter.
Background: The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of ipsilateral and contralateral load changes during single-leg standing on the leg muscle activities of healthy people. Design: Randomized controlled trial. Methods: For all the subjects, a load was randomly applied to the ipsilateral or the contralateral side. While the load was applied, the subject raised a hand and then performed single-leg standing for 10 seconds using the dominant side. Results: During single-leg standing, the muscle activity of the gluteus medius, peroneus longus on the supporting side increased statistically significantly when an upper limb load was applied contralaterally, but no statistically significant differences were detected in the muscle activities of the tibialis anterior and the gastrocnemius using a test of within-subjects effects. Conclusion: It can be seen that muscle activities increase during exercise when the amount and frequency of a load are increased and when the same load is applied to different sides of the body. Such muscle activity increases may be applied to change the intensity of exercise when one is in a static posture, such as during single-leg standing.
In addition to the stabilization of electricity supply and the quality management of electricity, load balance has been an important strategy for achieving high quality load management. Among many techniques for load management, direct load management has been actively studied and applied for increasing the efficiency of power facility and suppressing peak load. In Korea, the highest peak load is demanded in summer rather than in winter, and almost 50% of the peak load comes from cooling load. Currently, applicable systems are limited to air conditioners that have the cooling capacity less than 2kW. This paper describes the development of remote controlled air conditioners and the result of the field test of the new type air conditioner. The technical specification based on the test will be applied to the new model of the remote controlled air conditioner. The wide distribution of the air conditioners to the public will be helpful to control peak demand due to cooling load in summer time. Financial investment to generating, transmission, distribution facilities will be decreased from flatting the seasonal power load.
Hydraulic torque load simulator is essential to test and qualify the performance of various angle control systems. Typically a flapper-type second stage servovalve is applied to the load simulator, but here the direct drive servovalve, which is a kind of one-stage valve and affected by the large flow force, is applied. Since the torque load is applied not to the stationary shaft but to the rotating shaft of the angle control system, the controlled torque of load simulator is not accurate due to the rotating speed of the angle control system. A feedforward compensator is designed and applied to minimize the disturbance-like effect. A mathematical model is derived and linearized to analyze the stability, accuracy and responsiveness of the torque load simulator. The parameter effects of a controller, servovalve, hydraulic motor, rotating spring shaft are analyzed and summarized. The goodness of the linear analysis is verified by the digital computer simulations using both the linear and nonlinear mathematical models.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the influence of apical-coronal implant position on the stress distribution after occlusal and oblique loading. Materials and Methods: The cortical and cancellous bone was assumed to be isotropic, homogeneous, and linearly elastic. The implant was apposed to cortical bone in the crestal region and to cancellous bone for the remainder of the implant-bone interface. The cancellous core was surrounded by 2-mm-thick cortical bone. An axial load of 200 N was assumed and a 200-N oblique load was applied at a buccal inclination of 30 degrees to the center of the pontic and buccal cusps. The 3-D geometry modeled in Iron CAD was interfaced with ANSYS. Results: When only the stress in the bone was compared, the minimal principal stress at load Points A and B, with a axial load applied at 90 degrees or an oblique load applied at 30 degrees, for model 5. The von Mises stress in the screw of model 5 was minimal at Points A and B, for 90- and 30-degree loads. When the von Mises stress of the abutment screw was compared at Points A and B, and a 30-degree oblique load, the maximum principal stress was seen with model 2, while the minimum principal stress was with model 5. In the case of implant, the model that received maximum von Mises stress was model 1 with the load Point A and Point B, axial load applied in 90-degree, and oblique load applied in 30-degree. Discussion and Conclusions: These results suggests that implantation should be done at the supracrestal level only when necessary, since it results in higher stress than when implantation is done at or below the alveolar bone level. Within the limited this study, we recommend the use of supracrestal apical-coronal positioning in the case of clinical indications.
