A Review of Research on Social Computing: Focused on Blogs and Social Network Services (소셜 컴퓨팅 연구동향 분석 - 블로그와 소셜 네트워크 서비스를 중심으로 -)

  • The purpose of this paper is to review research articles on social computing and to provide the future directions of the study. A total of 51 articles published in social scientific journals from 2006 to 2010 are analysed by research theme, methodology, level of analysis, and application area. It is found that most of the studies are addressing blogs and mainly focusing on societal concepts rather than organizational concepts. The predominant methodology is field study at the individual level of analysis. We suggest that future researches on social computing need to address more various topics and application areas. Also diversity in terms of methodology and level of analysis is required.

  • The thermomechanical behaviors of SMA thin film actuator and their application are investigated. The numerical algorithm of the 2-D SMA thermomechanical constitutive equation is developed and implemented into the ABAQUS finite element program by using the user defined material (UMAT) subroutine. To verify the numerical algorithm of SMAs, the results are compared with experimental data. For the application of SMA thin film actuator, the methodology to maintain the precise configuration of inflatable membrane structure is demonstrated.

Optimal Poultry Litter Management through GIS-based Transportation Analysis System

  • Concentrated poultry production in the State of Alabama, U.S.A. results in excessive poultry litter. Application of poultry litter to pastures and row crops serves as a cheap alternative to commercial fertilizer. However, over the years, poultry litter application to perennial forage crops in the Appalachian Plateau region of North Alabama has resulted in phosphorus (P) buildup in soils. Phosphorus index (P-index) and comprehensive nutrient management plans (CNMP) are often used as a best management practice (BMP) for proper land application of litter. Because nutrient management planning is often not done for small animal feeding operations (AFOs), and also because, in case of excess litter, litter transportation infrastructure has not been developed, over application of poultry litter to near by area is a common practice. To alleviate this problem, optimal poultry litter management and transportation infrastructure needs to be developed. This paper presents a methodology to optimize poultry litter application and transportation through efficient nutrient management planning and transportation network analysis. The goal was accomplished through implementation of three important modules, a P-Index module, a CNMP module, and a transportation network analysis module within ArcGIS, a Geographic Information System (GIS). The CNMP and P-Index modules assist with land application of poultry litter at a rate that is protective of water quality, while the transportation network analysis module helps transport excess litter to areas requiring litter in the Appalachian Plateau and Black Belt (a nutrient-deficient area) regions. Once fully developed and implemented, such a system will help alleviate water quality problems in the Appalachian Plateau region and poor soil fertility problems in the Black Belt region by optimizing land application and transportation. The utility of the methodology is illustrated through a hypothetical case study.

  • As the most common application development of software development time, error-free quality, adaptability to frequent maintenance, such as the need for large and complex software challenges have been raised. When developing web applications to respond to software reusability, reliability, scalability, simplicity, these quality issues do not take into account such aspects traditionally. In this situation, the traditional development methodology to solve the same quality because it has limited development of new methodologies is needed. Quality of applications the application logic, data, and architecture in the entire area as a separate methodology can achieve your goals if you do not respond. In this study secure coding, the big issue, web application factors to deal with security vulnerabilities, web application architecture, design procedure is proposed. This proposal is based on a series of ISO/IEC9000, a web application architecture design process.

  • In order to improve working speed, add more functions and provide better user interface of ASADAL, the AWT based Java application to support FORM Software Product Line Development Methodology; we had to reengineer this application to be Eclipse based plug-in application.   • This paper reviews the general concept and application area of Supply Chain Management (SCM). Then, the general concept, function, modeling methodology, and operation methodology of Supply Chain Simulation are also reviewed. SCM software solutions and their modules developed by popular IT companies are introduced and compared. The role of simulation in SCM is emphasized as a strategic decision making solution for modeling and analyzing dynamics of a supply chain. Several stand-alone supply chain simulators are introduced and compared.

  • This paper is intended to assess a system reliability that is changed as time passes. The proposed methodology consists of two steps: (1) predicting probabilities that each component fails at specific time by using a Markov Chain model and (2) calculating reliability of the whole system via Bayesian network. The proposed methodology includes extended Bayesian network model reflecting the case that components are mutually dependent.

  • MDD/MDA which recently raising its head is technology that increase software development productivity through automatic transformation form higer abstract model into lower abstract model, or from model to code. This paper analyzes the effect on productivity by measuring Function Point per MM(man-month) in a software development project which performed in CBD methodology, and introduce the method of applying MDD/MDA technology in the project.

  • Methodology for health risk assessment has been developed by governmental agencies and research institutions in the United States concerning environmental and industrial health such as Environmental Protection Agency, Pood and Drug Administration, and Occupational Safety and Health Administration. The basic concept, process, and scientific rational of the health risk assessment are discussed in order to introduce this field of research for future application to risk assessment and management in Korea. As environmental criteria for most of the environmental carcinogens and nonfarcinogens are set based on the quantitative risk assessment, this quantitative methodology should be emphasized and studied in Korean situation.
