The selection technique for optimal operation position selection technique is used to present the initial bow and stern draft with minimum resistance, for achievingthat is, the optimal fuel consumption efficiency at a given operating displacement and speed. The main purpose of this studypaper is to develop a program to select the optimal operating position with maximum energy efficiency under given operating conditions based on the effective power data of the target ship. This program was written as a Python-based GUI (Graphic User Interface) usingbased on artificial intelligence techniques sucho that ship owners could easily use the GUIit. In the process, tThe introduction of the target ship, the collection of effective power data through computational fluid dynamics (CFD), the learning method of the effective power model using deep learning, and the program for presenting the optimal operation position using the deep neural network (DNN) model were specifically explained. Ships are loaded and unloaded for each operation, which changes the cargo load and changes the displacement. The shipowners wants to know the optimal operating position with minimum resistance, that is, maximum energy efficiency, according to the given speed of each displacement. The developed GUI can be installed on the ship's tablet PC and application and used to determineselect the optimal operating position.
If the disc cutter is excessively worn or damaged, it becomes incapable of rotating and efficiently cutting rockmass. Therefore, it is important to appropriately manage the replacement cycle of the disc cutter based on its degree of wear. In general, the replacement cycle is determined based on the results of manual inspection. However, the manual measurements has issues related to worker safety and may lead to inaccurate measurement results. For these reasons, some foreign countries are developing the real-time measurement system of disc cutter wear by using different sensors. The ultrasonic sensors, eddy current sensors, magnetic sensors, and others are utilized for measuring the wear amount of disc cutters. In this study, the applicability of eddy current sensors for real-time measurement of wear amount in TBM disc cutters was evaluated. The distance measurement accuracy of the eddy current sensor was assessed through laboratory tests. In particular, the accuracy of eddy-current sensor was evaluated in various environmental conditions within the cutterhead chamber. In addition, the measurement accuracy of the eddy current sensor was validated using a 17-inch disc cutter.

Hanger cable tension is a major response that can determine the integrity and safety of suspension bridges. In general, the vibration method is used to estimate hanger cable tension on operational suspension bridges. It measures natural frequencies from hanger cables and indirectly estimates tension using the geometry conditions of the hanger cables. This study estimated the hanger cable tension of the Palyeong Bridge using a vision-based system. The vision-based system used digital camcorders and tripods considering the convenience and economic efficiency of measurement. Measuring the natural frequencies for high-order modes required for the vibration method is difficult because the hanger cable response measured using the vision-based system is displacement-based. Therefore, this study proposed a back analysis technique for estimating tension using the natural frequencies of low-order modes. Optimization for the back analysis technique was performed by defining the difference between the natural frequencies of hanger cables measured in the field and those calculated using finite element analysis as the objective function. The direct search method that does not require the partial derivatives of the objective function was applied as the optimization method. The reliability and accuracy of the back analysis technique were verified by comparing the tension calculated using the method with that estimated using the vibration method. Tension was accurately estimated using the natural frequencies of low-order modes by applying the back analysis technique.

This paper investigates the naval application of laser communication as a potential replacement for traditional acoustic wave communication in underwater environments. We developed a laser transceiver using Arduino and MATLAB, conducting a water tank experiment to validate communication feasibility across diverse underwater conditions. In the first experiment, when transmitting data through a laser, the desired message was converted into data and transmitted, received, and confirmed to be converted into the correct message. In the second experiment, the operation of communication in underwater situations was confirmed, and in the third experiment, the intensity of light was measured using the CDS illuminance sensor module and the limits of laser communication were measured and confirmed in various underwater situations. Additionally, MATLAB code was employed to gather data on salinity, water temperature, and water depth for calculating turbidity. Optimal wavelength values (532nm, 633nm, 785nm, 1064nm) corresponding to calculated turbidity levels (5, 20, 55, 180) were determined and presented. The study then focuses on analyzing potential applications in naval tactical communication, remote sensing, and underwater drone control. Finally, we propose measures for overcoming current technological limitations and enhancing performance.

This paper presents a design approach for passive vibration control to reduce vertical vibrations transmitted to the control unit during hovering flight of a quadrotor drone. Ground vibration test simulation based on finite element model was performed for forced vibration analysis of the quadrotor drone. First, modal analysis was performed to evaluate dynamic characteristics. Forced vibration response analysis was then performed to obtain the steady-state response within the operating frequency range under the hovering flight condition. Furthermore, to obtain the vibration reduction effect, a viscous damping tape was applied at positions that could induce vibrations transmitted to the control unit under the same conditions. Such a passive vibration control approach was investigated. Relevant vibration reduction effect was assessed with respect to the application of damping materials and the attachment position.
The external fuel tank of an aircraft is a main component that can increase the cruising range of the aircraft. It must be able to be stably separated from the pylon in an emergency situation. At this time, a separation load is applied to the fin and the pivot of the external fuel tank. To stably separate the external fuel tank, the structural soundness of the fin and the pivot must be confirmed. In this study, structural tests were conducted to verify the structural integrity of the external fuel tank pin and pivot when the external fuel tank was separated from the aircraft. Results are then presented. In this paper, a test configuration diagram consisting of the hydraulic and load control equipment, data acquisition system, and pneumatic supply unit used in the structural test was explained. Test installation and test load application plan for each test condition were provided. As results of the structural test, it was found that test load and internal pressure of the test specimen were properly controlled within the allowable range in each test. It was confirmed that serious structural defects in the test specimen did not occur under required load conditions. In conclusion, through structural test for design limit load and design ultimate load, it was proven that the fin and pivot of the external fuel tank for aircraft covered in this study had sufficient structural strength.
The study primarily aims to examine the characteristics of the transition from natural landscape to modern agricultural landscape on the Daesan plain in Dong-myeon, Changwon-si, in the lower reaches of the Nakdong River. The periods covered in the transition include the late Joseon Dynasty, the early Japanese colonial period, and the late Japanese colonial period. The study concluded the following: It was found that the Daesan Plain used to function as a hydrophilic landscape before it formed into a rural landscape. This is characterized by the various water resources in the Plain, primarily by the Nakdong River, with its back marsh tributaries, the Junam Reservoir and Jucheon. To achieve its recent form, the Daesan Plain was subjected to human trial and error. Through installation of irrigation facilities such as embankments and sluices, the irregularly-shaped wetlands were transformed into large-scale farmlands while the same irrigation facilities underwent constant renovation to permanently stabilize the rural landscape. These processes of transformation were similarly a product of typical colonial expropriation. During the Japanese colonial period, Japanese capitalists initiated the construction of private farms which led to the national land development policy by the Governor-General of Korea. These landscape changes are indicative of resource capitalism depicted by the expansion of agricultural production value by the application of resource capital to undeveloped natural space for economic viability. As a result, the hierarchical structure was magnified resulting to the exacerbation of community and economic structural imbalances which presents an alternative yet related perspective to the evolution of landscapes during the Japanese colonial period. In addition, considering Daesan Plain's vulnerability to changing weather conditions, natural processes have also been a factor to its landscape transformation. Such occurrences endanger the sustainability of the area as when floods inundate cultivated lands and render them unstable, endangering residents, as well as the harvests. In conclusion, the Daesan Plain originally took the form of a hydrophilic landscape and started significantly evolving into a rural landscape since the Japanese colonial period. Human-induced land development and geophysical processes significantly impacted this transformation which also exemplifies the several ways of how undeveloped natural landscapes turn into mechanized and capitalized rural landscapes by colonial resource capitalism and development policies.

This study investigates the evolution of concrete damage due to chloride-induced steel corrosion through Impact-echo (IE) testing. Three reinforced concrete specimens, each measuring 1500 mm in length, 400 mm in width, and 200 mm in thickness, were fabricated using three concrete mixture proportions of blended cement types: ordinary Portland cement, ground granulated blast-furnace slag and fly ash. Steel corrosion in the concrete was accelerated by impressing a 0.5 A current following a 35-day cycle of wet-and-dry saturation in a 3% NaCl solution. Initial IE data collected during the saturation phase showed no significant changes, indicating that moisture had a minimal impact on IE signals and highlighting the slow progress of corrosion under natural conditions. Post-application of current, however, there was a noticeable decline in both IE peak frequency and the P-wave velocity in the concrete as the duration of the impressed current increased. Remarkably, progressive monitoring of IE proves highly effective in capturing the critical features of steel-corrosion induced concrete deterioration, such as the onset of internal damages and the rate of damage propagation. These results demonstrate the potential of progressive IE data monitoring to enhance the reliability of diagnosing and prognosticating the evolution of concrete damage in marine environment.

The aim of this study was to investigate teachers' perceptions on MBL (microcomputer-based laboratory) experiment training program for teachers, the expecting effects of MBL experiment and application of MBL experiment after conducting MBL experiment training for science classes in schools. This study showed that most of the teachers who participated in the training program thought that the MBL experiment training program was very useful and instructive. Many teachers considered that MBL experiments using a computer could decrease time spent in the experiment by accurate and fast data collection and analysis. They also thought that the reduced time could be used more effectively in the analysis of experimental data and discussion activities leading to correct concept formation as well as in the development of graphical analysis and science process skills. However, they thought that MBL experiments were ineffective in learning how to operate experiment apparatus. This study also revealed that most teachers intended to apply MBL experiments in real classrooms context right after the training course and they pointed out many obstacles in introducing MBL experiments into their classrooms such as a budget to purchase equipment, poor laboratory conditions, and few MBL experiment training opportunities. In order to apply MBL experiment into the real classrooms, further changes were suggested as follows; development of technologies to reduce unit cost of equipment for MBL experiments, production and supply of many kinds of sensors, development of MBL experiment materials, and expansion of the training program for teachers.

The public survey performance review conducted by the Spatial Information Quality Management Institute is conducted at the screening rate in accordance with the regulations, and the examiner directly judges the overall trend of the submitted performance based on the extracted sample. However, the evaluation of the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, the evaluation trustee shall be specified by random extraction (Random Collection) is specified by the sample. In this study, it analyzed the details of the actual site and analyzed through securing actual performance review data. In addition, we analyzed considerations according to various field conditions and studied ways to apply the public survey performance review sampling algorithm. Therefore, detailed sampling criteria analysis by performance reviewers is necessary. A relative comparison was made feasible by comparing the data for which the real performance evaluation was performed with the outcomes of the Python automation program. This automation program is expected to be employed as a foundation program for the automated application of public survey performance evaluation sampling in the future.
