  • This paper is devoted to investigating direct adaptive neural control of nonlinear systems with uncertain or unknown dynamic models. In the direct adaptive neural networks control area, theoretical issues of the existing backpropagation-based adaptive neural networks control schemes. The major contribution is proposing the variable index control approach, which is of great significance in the control field, and applying it to derive new stable robust adaptive neural network control schemes. This new schemes possess inherent robustness to system model uncertainty, which is not required to satisfy any matching condition. To demonstrate the feasibility of the proposed leaning algorithms and direct adaptive neural networks control schemes, intensive computer simulations were conducted based on the flexible joint robot systems and functions.

  • Recent recovery of the Korean economy drives a rapid increase in utility consumption and requires more stable utility supply and maintenance. However, power location security hardship, reinforcement of international environmental regulation and a huge cost of power plant construction have increased the burden laid on the stable supply. In addition, an efficient and flexible load management is required more than any era since an increment of the rate of increase in cooling load is expected. Therefore, according as the necessity of direct load control for cooling load during the summer in Korea was on the rise, direct load control systems by Internet communication method are constructed at five commercial buildings. Based on practical load control, this study proposes various application modes and communication methods prior to extension diffusion of direct load control hereafter.

  • The Hong Ik Direct Drive Arm(HIDDA) is a SCARA typed direct drive manipulator with two degrees-of-freedom(DOF) using the direct drive motor of the NSK company. The direct NSK motors are used to give a large torque directly to the link, to reduce the modeling errors from the gears and chains. But, since the nonlinear coupling torques are transferred to the motor shaft without any reduction, we must consider a dynamic control algorithm. In this paper, we designed a robot controller for the HIDDA using a TMS320C31, which has the highest performance among the third DSP chips in the TI company. And we developed the integrated environment software of the robot management system to give the users an easy way of programming, running and simulation of the robot on the PC.

  • A module M is called FI-extending if every fully invariant submodule of M is essential in a direct summand of M. In this work, we define a module M to be generalized FI-extending (GFI-extending) if for any fully invariant submodule N of M, there exists a direct summand D of M such that N ≤ D and that D/N is singular. The classes of FI-extending modules and singular modules are properly contained in the class of GFI-extending modules. We first develop basic properties of this newly defined class of modules in the general module setting. Then, the GFI-extending property is shown to carry over to matrix rings. Finally, we show that the class of GFI-extending modules is closed under direct sums but not under direct summands. However, it is proved that direct summands are GFI-extending under certain restrictions.

  • In this paper a direct cell-to-cell charge balancing circuit which can transfer the charge from any cell to any cell in the battery string is introduced. In the proposed topology the energy in the high voltage cell is transferred to the low voltage cell through the simple operation of a dc-dc converter to get fast equalization. Furthermore, the charge equalization can be performed regardless of the battery module operation whether it is being charged, discharged or relaxed. The monitoring circuit composed of a DSP and a battery monitoring IC is designed to monitor the cell voltage and protect the battery. In order to demonstrate the advantages of the proposed topology, a prototype circuit was designed and applied to 12 Lithium-Ion battery module. It has been verified with the experiments that the charge equalization time of the proposed method was shortest compared with those of other methods.

  • Let M and N be modules over a ring R. The purpose of this paper is to study modules M, N for which the bi-module [M, N] is regular or pi. It is proved that the bi-module [M, N] is regular if and only if a module N is semi M-projective and $Im({\alpha}){\subseteq}^{\oplus}N$ for all ${\alpha}{\in}[M,N]$, if and only if a module M is semi N-injective and $Ker({\alpha}){\subseteq}^{\oplus}N$ for all ${\alpha}{\in}[M,N]$. Also, it is proved that the bi-module [M, N] is pi if and only if a module N is direct M-projective and for any ${\alpha}{\in}[M,N]$ there exists ${\beta}{\in}[M,N]$ such that $Im({\alpha}{\beta}){\subseteq}^{\oplus}N$, if and only if a module M is direct N-injective and for any ${\alpha}{\in}[M,N]$ there exists ${\beta}{\in}[M,N]$ such that $Ker({\beta}{\alpha}){\subseteq}^{\oplus}M$. The relationship between the Jacobson radical and the (co)singular ideal of [M, N] is described.

  • Foreign direct investment (FDI) is especially important for developing countries. This study investigates the determinants of FDI in the case of Indonesia. Most empirical researches in this field used time series data of a single country or panel data of several countries. Although panel data analysis is more comprehensive, however results taken from cross-country analysis cannot be directly applied to any specific country in the dataset and therefore lacks practicality. In this research, panel data analysis of a single country is performed to overcome the aforementioned shortcomings. Five determinants of FDI are tested using panel data of 33 Indonesian provinces over 10-year period of time. Two methodologies are adopted, random/fixed effects model and Granger Causality. The results show that only market size significantly affects FDI when tested using both methodologies. Human capital and financial market development show significant result in one of the two methodologies. While, economic growth and infrastructure did not show any significant results at all. This research stresses the importance of comprehensive single country analysis since only one out of five commonly discussed determinants is applicable in the case of Indonesia. Governments should therefore carefully reconsider the use of cross-country analysis as a basis of their policy formulations.

  • The use of autopolymerizing-cured resin and light-cured resin for direct introral relining of complete and partial dentures has been popular. The purpose of this investigation was to determine the surface characteristics of autopolymerizing-cured reline resins(Tokuso rebase, Mild rebaron, Meta base) and light-cured reline resin(Mild rebaron LC). Acrylic resin slab specimens(1.0cm in diameter at the bottom, and 0.3cm high) were made against glass according to the instructions of the manufacturer following normal procedures for each of direct reline resins and examined the surface characteristics by use of surface profilometer and the other specimens which were made intraorally for each of direct reline resins were examined by use of scanning electron microscopy. The results were as follows : 1. Each surface roughness(Rz) of hard relin resins was $0.14{\pm}0.04{\mu}m$ in Tokuso rebase, $0.37{\pm}0.11{\mu}m$ in Mild Rebaron, $0.79{\pm}0.44{\mu}m$ in Mild Rebaron LC, $6.36{\pm}3.40{\mu}m$ in Meta base. There were significant differences between the surface roughness of Meta base and those of other reline resins(p<0.05) 2. The generation of porosity was the most in Tokuso Rebase and followed by Meta base, Mild Rebaron and Mild Rebaron LC in the order respectively. 3. Light-cured reline resin(Mild rebaron LC) was denser in surface than any other autopolymerizing-cured reline resins. Tokuso rebase and Mild rebaron was denser than Meta base. Conclusively, light-cured reline resin(Mild rebaron LC) had less porosity and better surface density than any other autopolymerizing-cured reline resins.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze a path model that investigated the relations among leisure expenditure leisure satisfaction and life satisfaction. For this purpose conceptual framework based on previous studies was suggested. The sample in this study consisted of 3,519 urban married couple living in Korea. Statistics employed for the analysis were frequencies means multiple regression and path annalysis. Empirical tests' results showed some evidence has been provided that supported the conceptual framework. In husband's model the household's leisure expenditure had vital direct effect on the husband's leisure satisfaction while it had not any effect on the husband's life satisfaction. Also in wife's model the household leisure expenditure had statistically significant direct effect on wife's life satisfaction however there was not any effect that mediated through wife's leisure satisfaction.

  • This paper introduces a virtual signal injected maximum torque per ampere (MTPA) control strategy for direct-torque-controlled five-phase interior permanent magnet synchronous motor (IPMSM) drives. The key of the proposed method is that a high frequency signal is injected virtually into the stator flux linkage. Then the responding stator current is calculated and regulated to compensate the amplitude of the flux linkage. This is done according to the relationship between the stator current and the stator flux linkage. Since the proposed method does not inject any real signals into the motor, it does not cause any of the problems associated with high-frequency signals, such as additional copper loss and extra torque ripple. Simulation and experimental results are offered to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method.
