  • COMS will transmit its observed data, Sensor Data, through L-Band with linear polarization. To avoid link loss caused by polarization discrepancy between satellite and SOC DATS, the L-Band antenna at SOC DATS should be linearly polarized. However, SOC DATS is supposed to share single antenna with SOC TTC, so the antenna should be circularly polarized. To cope with about 3dB loss, SOC DATS is designed to receive Sensor Data through two orthogonal circular polarizations, RHCP (Right-Hand Circular Polarization) and LHCP (Left-Hand Circular Polarization). Eventually, SOC DATS can obtain 2.6dB of combining gain through diversity combiner in MODEM/BB. This paper presents the verification on the diversity combining of SOC DATS with test configuration and results in depth.

  • In this paper, we analyze the performance of pulse position modulation-time hopping ultra wide band (PPM-TH UWB) systems with antenna diversity technique in indoor wireless channel. A modified Saleh and Valenzuela (SV) model is adopted as a UWB indoor channel model. Perfect synchronization between a transmitter and a receiver is assumed. Therefore, coherent equal gain combining (EGC) scheme to collect the energy available in the multipath components is investigated. It is shown that the performance is improved by increasing the number of antennas at the receiver. The results of this paper can be applied to the applications of UWB.

  • The switched diversity, although its performance is a little inferior to the selection diversity, is widely used due to its advantage that only one RF circuit is required for its operation without respect to the number of antennas in use. In this paper, we propose an application of the antenna switched diversity to a spread spectrum system with adaptive modulation and derived the optimal antenna switching threshold to maximize the average transmission bit rate. We also compared the performances of the proposed system with those of the two cases using a single antenna and the selection diversity with two antennas in terms of the average number of bits per symbol(BPS), the probability of no transmission, and the average BER. The performance analysis shows that, if the number of paths in a multipath channel environment increases, the performance of the proposed scheme becomes closer to that of the selection diversity based system in terms of the average BPS. Furthermore, the proposed scheme produces as almost high the probability of no transmission as the selection diversity based system for the case of low average SNR, although the former yields a little higher probability of no transmission than the latter fer the case of high average SNR.

  • For mobile multimedia systems that equip transmit diversity for a forward channel, it is well known that the Tx diversity technique is appropriate for high rate mobile multimedia communications. In this paper, we propose a STTD (Space Time Transmit Diversity) receiver, which incorporates the design of the Tx diversity receiver without the mutual interference of antenna by using a CCI cancellation technique. The new STTD receiver is simulated and its performance is analyzed in a DS-CDMA/QPSK. Adopting the proposed STTD receiver at $10^{-2}$TEX>∼$10^{-4}$TEX> in bit error rate, SNR of 0.5 ㏈∼2 ㏈ performance improvement in AWGN and Rayleigh fading environments has been achieved.

  • The present paper defines diversity gain for stationary users. This deals in particular with gathering the received signal statistics over possible user positions and orientations in space rather than over time, and to define a meaningful diversity gain related to the cumulative improvement of the performances of the 1% users with the worst receiving conditions. The definition is used to evaluate diversity gain for some typical small antennas in an extreme environment with only line-of-sight (LOS). The LOS environment is regarded as user-distributed 3D-random LOS caused by the statistics of an ensemble of stationary users with arbitrary orientations in the horizontal plane (2D), and with arbitrary orientations of their wireless devices in the vertical plane. Thus, an overall 3D-random distribution of user orientation is assumed.

  • This paper describes a simple delay diversity technique for terrestrial digital multimedia broadcasting (T-DMB) and digital audio broadcasting in a single-frequency network (SFN). For the diversity technique, a delay diversity scheme is adopted. In the delay diversity scheme, a non-delayed signal is transmitted in the first antenna, and delayed versions of the signal are transmitted in each additional antenna. For an SFN environment with multiple transmitters, delay diversity can be executed by controlling the emission times of the transmitters. This SFN delay diversity scheme does not require any hardware changes in either the transmitter or receiver, and perfect backward compatibility can be acquired. To evaluate the performance improvement, laboratory tests are executed with various types of commercial T-DMB receivers as well as a measurement receiver. The improvement in the bit error rate performance is evaluated using a measurement receiver, and an improvement of the threshold of visibility value is evaluated for commercial receivers. Test results show that the T-DMB system can obtain diversity gain using the described technique.

  • This letter presents an antenna design method for an orthogonally-polarized dual antenna for use in mobile stations (MSs) and includes a verification method for improving the link-level throughput performance of an MS that uses a proposed multiple-input multiple-output antenna. The link-level throughput performance of an MS is strongly related to the correlation between antenna branches, which is determined by the cross polarization discrimination of the second branch antenna, both numerically and experimentally.

  • This paper is an analysis the performance of CDMA system using array antenna beamforming technique in wireless channels. Adaptive array beamforming antenna technique combine receive signal amplitude with phase in array antenna element, and can be incremental spatial filter function a direction of arrival signal using weight value. Through simulation, in this paper, we were an analysis to compare bit error rate of forward and backward channels using array antenna beamforming technique in order to interference signal decrease of CDMA fading enviroment. The result simulation, we get spatial diversity effect by using array antenna system, and improved the performance to MAI interference decrease.

  • In this paper, we propose an application of the receiver antenna switching to an conventional adaptive modulation system and derived the optimal antenna switching threshold of the system to maximize the average transmission bit rate and analyzed its performance. Also, we compare the performances of the presented scheme with those of an adaptive modulation using the antenna selection diversity and the one with a single antenna in terms of the average number of bits per symbol and the probability of no transmission. Performance comparison results show that the proposed system has an SNR gain of 1.4 dB over the adaptive modulation using a single antenna when the average number of bits per a symbol is two and yields an SNR gain of 6 dB for maintaining the probability of no transmission at the level of 0.1.

  • This paper presents a structure of the searcher using the space diversity in array antenna system operating in the DS/CDMA signal environments. The new technique exploits the fact that the In-phase and Quadrature components of interferers can respectively be viewed as independent Gaussian noise at each antenna element in most practical CDMA (Code Division Multiple Access) signal environments. The proposed PN acquisition scheme is a single dwell serial PN acquisition system consisting of two stage, that is, the searching stage and the verification stage. The searching stage correlates the received signals with the local PN oscilator for obtaining the synchronous energy at the entire uncertainty region. The verification stage compares the searching energy with the optimal threshold, which is pre-designed in the Lock-Detector, and decides whether the acquisition is successful or fail. In this paper, we analyzed the relationship of both diversity order and the mean acquisition time. In general, It is known that the mean acquisition time decreases significantly as the number of antenna elements increases. But, the enhancement of the performance is saturated in terms of PN acquisition scheme. Therefore, to decrease the mean acquisition time, we must design the optimal array antenna system by considering the operating SNR range of the receiver, the detection probability, and the false alarm probability. The performance of the proposed acquisition scheme is analyzed in frequency-selective Rayleigh fading channels. In this paper, the effect of the number of antenna elements on acquisition scheme is considered in terms of the detection probability, false alarm probability. and the mean acquisition time.
