This study was aimed to elucidate the physiological function of a pair of protuberances like bifurcated horns developed on the anterior part of pupa in Coboldia fuscipes (Diptera: Scatopsidae), a pest on the oyster mushroom. In the morphological characteristics, larvae had a pair of 0.04 mm long microspines at their second body segment. Pupae had a pair of protuberances like bifurcated horns of 0.55 mm long on the anterior part and six pairs of spines, 0.12 mm long, at the posterior part of the abdomen. The microspines-removed 4th instar C. fuscipes larvae developed into pupae without a pair of the protuberances. After emergence, however, the adults have a pair of antenna normal regardless of with or without the protuberances. As ecological characteristics at the pupation, the pupa without a pair of the protuberances have a tendency to pupate outside the medium. However, development characteristics of the microspines-removed larvae were very similar to those of control larvae. In the result of microscopic observation, a pair of the protuberances was connected wit six pairs of spines by lateral longitudinal trunck and formed a tracheal system. In conclusion, this results implicates that the protuberances have an important role as a respiratory horn during the pupal period.

In this paper, the Low Noise Amplifier(LNA) is designed and fabricated to include a band pass filter characteristics considering the antenna system characteristics according to the transmitting and receiving signal level of communication satellite transponder. As an example, a 2-stage low noise amplifier and a 4-stage amplifier and designed, fabricated and measured at 14,0~14.5GHz of receiving frequency band. This fabricated LNA has shown the gain with very good flatness within pass-band, and its gain decreases rapidly out of band resulting in supperssion of the transmitting signal power leakage. It has shown the 20.3dB +- 0.1dB of pass-band gain, the 1.44dB +-0.04dB of noise figure and the 14dB rejection out of band(12.25~12.75GHz). The gain flatness, noise figure and group delay of this 2-stage LNA satisfactorily met the simulation results. And the fabricated 4-stage amplifier has shown the more than 42dB of pass-band gain, the +-0.25dB of flatness and the 28dB of the rejection effect for transmitting power leakage. The 2-stage LNA and 4-stage amplifier, in this paper, will bring a design margin for the input filter and also result in the system cost reduction.

This paper presents a cooperative transmission scheme for underwater acoustic sensor networks to improve packet transmission rate and reduce energy consumption. Source node transmits duplicated information relayed by distributed antennas called a virtual antenna array. Destination node combines that information to reduce packet error rate. The suggested cooperative scheme enhances the reliability by providing high diversity gains through intermediate relay nodes to overcome the distinct characteristics of the underwater channel, such as high transmission loss, propagation delay, and ambient noises. It is suggested that the algorithm select destinations and potential relays from a set of neighboring nodes that utilize distance cost, the residual energy of each node and local measurement of the channel conditions into calculation. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme reduces average energy consumption, response time, and increases packet delivery ratio compared with the SPF(Shortest Path First) and non-cooperative scheme using OPNET Moduler.
In this paper, the performance evaluation of the JADE-MUSIC estimation based on the indoor channel is presented. By means of the JADE-MUSIC algorithm, DOA and time delay can be obtained simultaneously. In the JADE-MUSIC method, the channel impulse response is first estimated from the received samples and then this impulse response is employed to estimate DOAs and time delays of multipath waves. Moreover, according to the JADE-MUSIC characteristics, it can work in cases when the number of impinging waves is more than the number of antenna elements, unlike the traditional parametric subspace-based method, such a case is not true. Therefore, we employ the JADE-MUSIC algorithm applying for the real indoor environment where is rich of the multipath propagation waves and can imply that the number of waves is very possibly higher than that of the array element. The experiment is carried out in our laboratory considered to be the real indoor environment. The performance of the JADE-MUSIC algorithm is evaluated in terms of the comparison between the simulation and experiment results by using the simulated channel model and the real indoor channel model, respectively. It is clear that the joint angle and delay estimation using the simulated channel model are in good agreement with the estimation using the real indoor channel model. Therefore, we can say that the JADE-MUSIC algorithm accomplishes the high performance to jointly estimate the angle and delay of the arriving signal for the indoor environment.

Tropospheric and ionospheric scintillation may impact on C-band satellite communication systems, particularly at lowmargin systems and low elevation angles. This paper presents the characteristics of C-Band scintillation at low elevation angle received and recorded the satellite signal from INTELSAT above the Pacific Ocean Region (POR) from January 2002 to December 2002 in the period of solar maximum. We received 3.9525 GHz beacon signal at Sri-Racha satellite earth station by the 32 meters in diameter antenna with 8 degrees of elevation. The analysis was found that the values of amplitude fluctuation is mostly about 0.5-0.6 dB peak to peak and $S_4$ = 0.03-0.04. The maximum amplitude fluctuation is about 9 dB peak to peak occurring in April. The occurrence numbers of scintillation is most frequently in April and minimum in November. The occurrence numbers of tropospheric scintillation are most frequently in April and October, and minimum in November. It relates to temperature and water vapor pressure variation in $N_{wet} $. The occurrence numbers of ionospheric scintillation are most frequently in April and September, and minimum in November. It varies corresponding to both equinoctial periods (vernal and autumnal equinox in March and September) and solstice periods (June and December) respectively.

Korea Polar Research Institute (KOPRI) installed an ionospheric sounding radar system called Vertical Incidence Pulsed Ionospheric Radar (VIPIR) at Jang Bogo Station (JBS) in 2015 in order to routinely monitor the state of the ionosphere in the auroral oval and polar cap regions. Since 2017, after two-year test operation, it has been continuously operated to produce various ionospheric parameters. In this article, we will introduce the characteristics of the JBS-VIPIR observations and possible applications of the data for the study on the polar ionosphere. The JBS-VIPIR utilizes a log periodic transmit antenna that transmits 0.5-25 MHz radio waves, and a receiving array of 8 dipole antennas. It is operated in the Dynasonde B-mode pulse scheme and utilizes the 3-D inversion program, called NeXtYZ, for the data acquisition and processing, instead of the conventional 1-D inversion procedure as used in the most of digisonde observations. The JBS-VIPIR outputs include the height profiles of the electron density, ionospheric tilts, and ion drifts with a 2-minute temporal resolution in the bottomside ionosphere. With these observations, possible research applications will be briefly described in combination with other observations for the aurora, the neutral atmosphere and the magnetosphere simultaneously conducted at JBS.

Containing an Angle-of-Arrival(: AOA) estimation and interference suppression techniques, an adaptive beamformer is one of core techniques for the Signal Intelligence(: SIGINT) which collect various intelligence utilizing cutting edge devices including the radar and satellite. It generates a beam with the directivity in a corresponding direction, to efficiently receive a signal from the specific direction, using antenna array. In this paper, we present the received signal model including interference signals and noise, which can be applied to an input of the signal intelligence satellite system equipped with the AOA estimation and the interference cancellation techniques, and analysis the characteristics of various signals, which can be included in the proposed received signal model. This proposed signal model can be directly applied to the performance evaluation for a variety of beamforming techniques. Also, we verify the spectrum characteristic of the presented received signal model in the frequency domain through computer simulation examples.

This paper describes on the real-time tracking of ship's dynamic behavior by AIS information in the coastal waters. The AIS data was received at a land station by using the antenna of AIS receiver mounted on the rooftop of the laboratory, Pukyong National University (PKNU), Busan, Korea, and stored as a NMEA format of serial output sentence of VDM(VHF Data-Link Message) and displayed on the ENC(Electronic Navigational Chart) of a PC-based ECDIS. In this study, the AIS receiver was mainly used to obtain the dynamic information that is necessary to evaluate and track the movement situation of training ship "KAYA" of PKNU in the coastal waters. The change of position with time for the ship turning under the rudder angle of port $30^{\circ}$ was correctly tracked with the turning circle of 940 m in diameter on the ENC of a PC-based ECDIS. Then, the dynamic information of the AIS system was updated every 6.29 seconds under the turning situation for the speed of 10.9 knots and every 21.65 seconds under the situation running at the speed of 11.05 knots on the straight line route of $155^{\circ}$, respectively. In case of AIS target tracking in the inshore zone behind large topographical obstructions, such as mountain and apartment buildings, the update rate of dynamic information was irregularly changed by the existence of land obstacles. However, the position tracking by AIS information under the situation existing no sea obstructions was achieved in real or near real-time and the instant presentation of course alternations for the ship was correctly monitored by using a PC-based ECDIS. From these results, we concluded that the PC-based ECDIS technology and methodology combined with the AIS information can be easily extended and applied to the surveillance and management for the fishing operation of fishing vessels in the coastal zone and in the EEZ fishing grounds.
Tidal flats develop along the south coast ofthe Korean peninsula. These areas are famous for sea farming. Specially, strong and coherent radar backscattering signals are observed over oyster sea farms that consist of artificial structures. Tide height in oyster farm is possible to measure by using interferometric phase and intensity of SAR data. It is assumed that the radar signals from oyster farm could be considered as double-bouncing returns by vertical and horizontal bars. But, detailed backscattering mechanism and polarimetric characteristics in oyster farm had not been well studied. We could not demonstrate whether the assumption is correct or not and exactly understand what the properties of back scattering were in oyster farm without full polarimetric data. The results of AIRSAR L-band POLSAR data, experiments in laboratory and JERS-l images are discussed. We carried out an experiment simulating a target structure using vector network analyser (Y.N.A.) in an anechoic chamber at Niigata University. Radar returns from vertical poles are stronger than those from horizontal poles by 10.5 dB. Single bounce components were as strong as double bounce components and more sensitive to antenna look direction. Double bounce components show quasi-linear relation with height of vertical poles. As black absorber replaced AI-plate in bottom surface, double bounce in vertical pole decreased. It is observed that not all oyster farms are characterized by double bounced scattering in AIRSAR data. The image intensity of the double bounce dominant oyster farm was investigated with respect to that of oyster farm dominated by single bounce in JERS-l SAR data. The image intensity model results in a correlation coefficient (R2 ) of 0.78 in double bounce dominant area while that of 0.54 in single bouncing dominant area. This shows that double bounce dominant area should be selected for water height measurement using In8AR technique.

PURPOSES : The objective of this study was to determine the relationship between the dielectric characteristics of asphalt mixtures and the air voids present in them using ground penetrating radar (GPR) testing. METHODS : To measure the dielectric properties of the asphalt mixtures, the reflection coefficient method and the approach based on the actual thickness of the asphalt layer were used. An air-couple-type GPR antenna with a center frequency of 1 GHz was used to measure the time for reflection from the asphalt/base layer interface. A piece of aluminum foil was placed at the interface to be able to determine the reflection time of the GPR signal with accuracy. An asphalt pavement testbed was constructed, and asphalt mixtures with different compaction numbers were tested. After the GPR tests, the asphalt samples were cored and their thicknesses and number of air voids were measured in the laboratory. RESULTS : It was found the dielectric constant of asphalt mixtures tends to decrease with an increase in the number of air voids. The dielectric constant values estimated from the reflection coefficient method exhibited a slight correlation to the number of air voids. However, the dielectric constant values measured using the approach based on the actual asphalt layer thickness were closely related to the asphalt mixture density. Based on these results, a regression equation to determine the number of air voids in asphalt mixtures using the GPR test method was proposed. CONCLUSIONS : It was concluded that the number of air voids in an asphalt mixture can be calculated based on the dielectric constant of the mixture as determined by GPR testing. It was also found that the number of air voids was exponentially related to the dielectric constant, with the coefficient of determination, $R^2$, being 0.74. These results suggest that the dielectric constant as determined by GPR testing can be used to improve the construction quality and maintenance of asphalt pavements.
