Getter is a class of materials used in absorbing gases such as hydrogen and moisture in microelectronics or semiconductor devices to operate properly. In this study, we developed a new device structure consisting of porous anodized alumina films on textured silicon wafer, which have cost efficiency in materials and processing aspects. Anodic aluminum oxide (AAO) with controlled pore sizes can be applied to a high-efficiency moisture absorber due to the high surface area and OH- saturated surface property. The moisture sorption capacity was 2.02% (RH=35%), obtained by analyzing isothermal adsorption/desorption curve.
The magnetic properties of aluminum anodized film in which Co-Fe alloy electrodeposited are investigated with regard to the alloy composition of magnetic films. The electrodeposited Co-Fe particles are confirmed to be single phase Co-Fe alloys by X-ray diffractions. At 34 at% Co, the sample with small pore diameter(particle diameter $150\;{\AA}$) has a large magnetic energy product($B_{max}$) of about 1.44 MGOe due to the large saturation magnetization, the high coercive force and good squareness of the M-H curve. However, for the samples with particle diameter larger than $450\;{\AA}$, the bottom of each particle forms abnormal particle claaed branch-shaped unlike the sample of the particle diameter $150\;{\AA}$. In this case, the magnetic anisotropy energy was about zero at the compositions of 45 and 75 at% Co. Moreover, at the compositions from 50 to 70 at% Co, the anisotropy became negative value. This means that an easy axis of magnetization of the film is in plane in plane in spite of the perpendicular shape anisotropy of the particle. It was found that the bottom extremity of the particle contains FeC from the X-ray diffraction. Thus the effect of the bottom extremity, that is, an unusal magnetic property was removed by electrodepositing Cu at the bottom extremity of the particle. Itis clear that the magnetic properties of the ilms are influenced by he branch-shaped bottom extremity filled with FeC.
Study investigated the optimal anodizing conditions for fabricating an oxide film that produces less contamination in a corrosive plasma environment, using oxalic acid and tartaric acid. Oxide films were produced using sulfuric acid, oxalic acid, and tartaric acid electrolyte mixtures with various mole ratios. The oxide film made by adding 0.05M tartaric acid to 0.3M oxalic acid showed higher breakdown voltage and lower leakage current. Additionally, contamination particles were reduced during plasma etching, thus demonstrates that this mixture presented optimal conditions. However, higher tartaric acid content (0.1 M, 0.15 M) led to lower breakdown voltages and higher leakage currents. Also, it resulted in more cracking during thermal shock tests as well as the generation of more contamination particles during plasma processing.

Molecular self-assembly has several advantages over other nanofabrication methods. Molecular building blocks ensure ultrafine pattern precision, parallel structure formation allows for mass production and a variety of three-dimensional structures are available for fabricating complex structures. Nevertheless, the molecular interaction for self-assembly generally relies on weak forces such as van der Waals force, hydrogen bonding, or hydrophobic interaction. Due to the weak interaction, the structure formation is usually slow and the degree of ordering is low in a self-assembled structure. To promote self-assembly, directed assembly methods employing prepatterned substrates or external fields have been developed and gathered a great deal of technological attention as a next generation nanofabrication process. In this presentation a variety of directed assembly methods for soft nanomaterials including block copolymers, peptides and carbon nanomaterials will be introduced. Block copolymers are representative self-assembling materials extensively utilized in nanofabrication. In contrast to colloid assembly or anodized metal oxides, various shapes of nanostructures, including lines or interconnected networks, can be generated with a precise tunability over their shape and size. Applying prepatterned substrates$^{1,2}$ or introducing thickness modulation$^3$ to block copolymer thin films allowed for the control over the orientational and positional orderings of self-assembled structures. The nanofabrication processes for metals, semiconductors$^4$, carbon nanotubes$^{5,6}$, and graphene$^{6,7}$ templating block copolymer self-assembly will be presented.

Steel crucible used for molten Al has a problem of very limited lifetime because of the interaction between Fe and molten Al. This study was performed to improve the lifetime of steel crucible for molten Al by coating metallic Al and by further anodizing treatment to form thick and uniform anodic oxide films. The lifetime of the steel crucible was improved slightly by Al coating from 30 to 40 hours by metallic Al coating and largely to 120 hours by coating the surface with anodic oxide film. The improved lifetime was attributed to blocking of the reaction between Fe and molten Al with the help of anodic oxide layer with more than 20 um thickness on the crucible surface. The failure of the steel crucible arises from the formation of intermetallic compounds and pores at the steel/Al interface.

The purpose of this study is to make porous oxide film on the surfaces of pure Ti through anodic spark discharge in electrolytic solution containing calcium and phosphate ions, to improve osseointergration by treating fluoride agent. In addition, it is to evaluate the fluoride modified effect on the surface. Commercial pure Ti plate with $20{\times}10{\times}2mm$ and Ti wire with a diameter of 1.5mm and a total length of 15mm were used. After making titanium oxide films converted by anodic spark discharge, anodizing was performed. Fluoride was spreaded to titanium laboratory plate and maintained for 30 minutes after anodizing breakdown. Fluoride ion discharge amount was measured per 24 hours after dipping titanium plate into saline (10ml) and sustaining 90rpm in a pyrostat. Some plates and wires were dipped in Hanks solutions for a month to examine biocompatibility using SEM and XRD. $TiO_2$ film formed by anodic discharge technique showed great roughness and uniform pores which were $1{\sim}3{\mu}m$ in a diameter. Roughness of the films treated with anodic discharge after blasting were higher than the turned ones(P<0.05). Rapid surface activity was observed in the samples treated with $TiF_3$ agent, which immersed in Hanks solution for 30 days. Taking the results into consideration, the fluoride modified implant with anodic discharge demonstrates that it makes uniformly porous oxide film on the surface of implant and properly increase roughness for osseointegration. The implants will achieve greater bone integration after short healing time by improving surface activity.

Numerous possible applications for $ZrO_2$ nanotubes exist such as for catalyst support structures, for sensing or for applications as a solid state electrolyte. Especially, because of a large specific surface area, high efficiency for solid oxide fuel cell (SOFC) application at low temperature can be expected for nanotublar structures in even small size. A zirconium precursor, Tetrakis (ethylmethylamino) zirconium, TEMAZr and $H_2O$ oxidant were used to deposit$ZrO_2$ thin films on an anodized aluminum oxide (AAO) templates having sub-100nm cylindrical pores by atomic layer deposition (ALD) in the temperature range of 150~250$^{\circ}C$. The crystalline structures of as-prepared and post-annealed $ZrO_2$ nanotubes were characterized by x-ray diffraction and high-resolution transmission electron microscopy. The as-prepared samples at $150^{\circ}C$ and $200^{\circ}C$ were showed amorphous, whereas a mixed phase of tetragonal, monoclinic and amorphous polymorph was observed at $250^{\circ}C$. In the bulk, zirconia remains monoclinic phase up to $1,175^{\circ}C$, however, $ZrO_2$ nanotubes were showed tetragonal phase upon post thermal treatments merely at $400^{\circ}C$. This trend may be indicative of high-curvature surfaces of nanotubes and thereby the presence of intrinsic compressive strain. The amount of amorphous structures in the mixed phase as well as as-grown $ZrO_2$ nanotubes were also gradually decreased by subsequent heat treatment.

Fundamental results obtained from an atomic force microscope (AFM) chemically-induced direct nano-lithography process are presented, which is regarded as a simple method for fabrication nm-scale devices such as superconducting flux flow transistors (SFFTs) and single electron tunneling transistors (SETs). Si cantilevers with Pt coating and with 30 nm thick TiO coating were used as conducting AFM tips in this study. We observed the surfaces of superconducting strip lines modified by AFM anodization' process. First, superconducting strip lines with scan size 2 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$${\times}$2 ${\mu}{\textrm}{m}$ have been anodized by AFM technology. The surface roughness was increased with the number of AFM scanning, The roughness variation was higher in case of the AFM tip with a positive voltage than with a negative voltage in respect of the strip surface. Second, we have patterned nm-scale oxide lines on ${YBa}-2{Cu}_3{O}_{7-x}$ superconducting microstrip surfaces by AFM conductive cantilever with a negative bias voltage. The ${YBa}-2{Cu}_3{O}_{7-x}$ oxide lines could be patterned by anodization technique. This research showed that the critical characteristics of superconducting thin films were be controlled by AFM anodization process technique. The AFM technique was expected to be used as a promising anodization technique for fabrication of an SFFT with nano-channel.

Titanium and its alloys have been used in the field dental and orthopedic implants because of their excellent mechanical properties and biocompatibility. Despite these attractive properties, their passive films were somewhat bioinert in nature so that sufficient adhesion of bone cells to implant surface was delayed after surgical treatment. Recently, plasma electrolyte oxidation (PEO) of titanium metal has attracted a great deal of attention is a comparatively convenient and effective technique and good adhesion to substrates and it enhances wear and corrosion resistances and produces thick, hard, and strong oxide coatings. Silicon(Si), Zinc(Zn), and Manganese(Mn) have a beneficial effect on bone. Si in particular has been found to be essential for normal bone and cartilage growth and development. And, Zn has been shown to be responsible for variations in body weight, bone length and bone biomechanical properties. Also, Mn influences regulation of bone remodeling because its low content in body is connected with the rise of the concentration of calcium, phosphates and phosphatase out of cells. The objective of this work was research on bone-like apatite morphology on Si-Zn-Mn-hydroxyapatite coating on Ti-6Al-4V alloy by plasma electrolytic oxidation. Anodized alloys were prepared at 280V voltage in the solution containing Si, Zn, and Mn ions. The surface characteristics of PEO treated Ti-6Al-4V alloy were investigated using XRD, FE-SEM, and EDS.

The 5xxx series aluminum alloys are recently used in not only marine system but also automotive area because of a low density material, good mechanical properties and better resistance to corrosion. However, Aluminum alloys are less resistant than the purest aluminum such as 1xxx aluminum alloy. Electrochemical anodization technique has attracted in the area of surface treatment because of a simple procedure, a low-cost efficiency than other techniques such as lithography and a large volume of productivity, and so on. Here, The relationship between the corrosion behavior and the thickness of aluminum anodic oxide have been studied. Prior to anodization, The 5052 aluminum sheets ($30{\times}20{\times}1mm$) were degreased by ultra-sonication in acetone and ethanol for 10 minutes and eletropolished in a mixture of perchloric acid and ethanol (1:4, volume ratio) under an applied potential of 20V for 60 seconds to obtain a regular surface. During anodization process, Aluminum alloy was used as a working electrode and a platinum was used as a counter electrode. The two electrodes were separated at a distance of 5cm. The applied voltage of anodization is conducted at 40V in a 0.3M oxalic acid solution at $0^{\circ}C$ with appropriate magnetic stirring. The surface morphology and the thickness of AAO films was observed with a Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM). The corrosion behavior of all samples was evaluated by an open-circuit potential and potentio-dynamic polarization test in 3.5wt% NaCl solution. Thus, The corrosion resistance of 5052 aluminum alloy is improved by the formation of an anodized oxide film as function of increase anodization time which artificially develops on the metal surface. The detailed electrochemical behavior of aluminum 5052 alloy will be discussed in view of the surface structures modified by anodization conditions such as applied voltages, concentration of electrolyte, and temperature of electrolyte.
