Long-term trends and distribution patterns of water quality were investigated in the Garolim coastal areas of Yellow Sea, Korea from 1998 to 2007. Water samples were collected at 3 stations and physicochemical parameters were analyzed including water temperature, salinity, suspended solids(SS), chemical oxygen demand(COD), dissolved oxygen(DO) and nutrients. Spatial distribution patterns were not clear among stations but the seasonal variations were distinct except pH and ammonia. The trend analysis by principal component analysis(PCA) during twenty years revealed the significant variations in water quality in the study area. Annual water qualities were clearly classified into 4 clusters by PCA; year cluster 1997, 1998 and 2000-2002, 1999 and 2003-2006/2008. By this multi-variate analysis the annual trends were summarized as follows; In recent years, salinity increased, whereas dissolved inorganic nitrogen, nitrate nitrogen and COD decreased and water quality generally continued to be in good condition in Gsrolim coastal areas without inflow of freshwater from land. Garolim coastal areas are required to be conserved continuously as important coastal areas for fisheries.

Long-term trends and distribution patterns of water quality were investigated in the Gunsan coastal areas of Yellow Sea, Korea from 1972 to 2006. Water samples were collected at 6 stations and physicochemical parameters were analyzed including water temperature, salinity, suspended solids(SS), chemical oxygen demand(COD), dissolved oxygen(DO) and nutrients. Spatial distribution patterns of temperature, DO and SS were not clear among stations but the seasonal variations were distinct except COD and SS. The trend analysis by principal component analysis(PCA) during 24 years revealed the significant variations in water quality in the study area. Spatial water qualities were clearly classified into 3 clusters by PCA; station cluster 1, 2~4, and 5~6. Annual water qualities were clearly classified into 4 surface water clusters and 5 bottom water clusters by PCA. By this multi-variate analysis. The annual trends were summarized as follows; Salinity, pH and DO tended to increase since late 1970's, COD to increase since 1987, and SS to decrease and nutrients to increase in Gunsan coastal waters due to the input of fresh water from land same as in Kyoungin coastal area, Asan coastal area and Choensoo bay.

Annual reproductive cycle of Siganus canaliculatus was studied based on monthly variation of gonadosomatic index (GSI) and histological changes of gonads. Samples were monthly collected by a set net along the southern coast of Jeju Island, Korea from January to December, 1996. Variation of the monthly mean GSI values showed similar trends in female and male. The GSI values increased from June and reached a peak in the spawning season in July $(9.65{\pm}1.96\;in\;females,\;10.00{\pm}4.27\;in\;males)$, and decreased rapidly thereafter. Female hepatosomatic index (HSI) values ranged from $1.26{\pm}0.22\;(in\;April)\;to\;2.34{\pm}0.39$ (in July), and male HSI values ranged from $1.27{\pm}0.21\;(in\;April)\;to\;1.87{\pm}0.30$ (in October). Annual reproductive cycle was classified into the following successive stages: in female, growing stage (from February to June), mature stage (from June to July), ripe and spawning stage (from July to August), recovery stage (from August to March); and in male, growing stage (from January to June), mature stage (from June to July), ripe and spent stage (from July to August), and recovery stage (from August to April). Based on these data, this species has a group-synchronous oocyte development and one spawning season a year.

Objectives: The aim of this study was to describe and analyze the incidence and mortality of female breast cancer in Jiangsu Province of China. Methods: Incidence and mortality data for female breast cancer and corresponding population statistics from eligible cancer registries in Jiangsu from 2006 to 2010 were collected and analyzed. Crude rates, age-specific rates and age-standardized rates of incidence and mortality were calculated, and annual present changes (APCs) were estimated to describe the time trends. Results: From 2006 to 2010, 11,013 new cases and 3,068 deaths of female breast cancer were identified in selected cancer registry areas of Jiangsu. The annual average crude incidence and age-standardized incidence by world population (ASW) were 25.2/ and 17.9/100,000 respectively. The annual average crude and ASW for mortality rates were 7.03/ and 4.81/100,000. The incidence was higher in urban areas than that in rural areas, and this was consistent in all age groups. No significant difference was observed in mortality between urban and rural areas. Two peaks were observed when looking at age-specific rates, one at 50-59 years and another at over 85 years. During the 5 years, incidence and mortality increased with APCs of 4.47% and 6.89%, respectively. Compared to the national level, Jiangsu is an area with relatively low risk of female breast cancer. Conclusion: Breast cancer has become a main public health problem among Chinese females. More prevention and control activities should be conducted to reduce the burden of this disease, even in relatively low risk areas like Jiangsu.
Characteristics of precipitation and temperature in Ulleung-do and Dok-do were analyzed with hourly accumulated precipitation and mean temperature data obtained from Automatic Weather System(AWS) for latest four years(2005~2008). In Ulleung-do, total annual mean precipitation for this period is 1,574.4 mm, which shows larger amount than 1434.2 mm of whole Korean peninsula for latest 10 years(1999~2008) and 1,236.2 mm at Ulleung-do on common years(1971~2000), shows that the trend of precipitation gradually increases during the recent years. This amount is also 1.4 times larger than the total annual mean precipitation of 660.1 mm in Dok-do. Mean precipitation intensity(mm $h^{-1}$) at each time of a day in each month at Ulleung-do represents that the maximum values larger than $3.0\;mm\;h^{-1}$ were shown in May and on 0200 LST, whereas these were found in August and 0700 LST with $3.1\;mm\;h^{-1}$ in Dok-do. The difference of the precipitation amount and its intensity between Uleung-do and Dok-do is explained by the topological effect came from each covering area, and this fact is also identified from similar comparison of the precipitation characteristics for the islands in West Sea. The annual mean temperature of $14.0^{\circ}C$ in Dok-do is $1.2^{\circ}C$ higher than that of $12.8^{\circ}C$ in Ulleung-do. Trends of monthly mean temperature in both islands are shown to increase for the observed period.

To understand natural regeneration and stand development after fire in mixed broadleaved-coniferous forests of Sikhote-Alin Mountains, ten sample plots of $50m{\times}50m$ size were established in 1975 and 1983 at the stands burned by wildfires in 1973 and 1982, respectively. And, the number of naturally regenerated seedlings were monitored in two $50m{\times}4m$ subplots in each plot. The most fire-sensitive conifer species is Abies nephrolepis, while Betula costata is the most fire-sensitive broadleaved tree species. The most fire-resistant species were Q. mongolica, T. taquetii and A. mono. The results of 20 and 30 years after the fire showed that pioneer tree species, e.g. Populus, Salix, and Betula, were regenerated immediately at the early stage of stand development and grew where there is a mono canopy layer with high density. On the other hand, the densities of successors, e.g. Pinus koraiensis, Picea jezoensis, Abies nephrolepis, Acer mono and Tilia taquetii, which were present in the study plots before the fire, increased gradually. Naturally regenerated tree species after forest fire by the growth rate were divided into three groups according to their annual height growth. The seral tree species (Betula costata, Betula platyphylla, Padus maackii, Populus tremula and Sarix caprea) belong to the first group and have the highest growth rate (from 40 to 96 cm per year). The late successional broad-leaved trees (Tilia taquetii, Acer mono and Quercus mongolica) belong to the second group and have intermediate annual height growth (from 3.7 to 13.5 cm per year). The late successional coniferous species (Picea jezoensis, Pinus koraiensis and Abies nephrolepis) form the third group and have the least annual height growth (from 1.4 to 3.5 cm per year).
In this study, impact of the COVID-19 outbreak on PM2.5 mass and its five chemical components (NH4+, NO3-, SO42-, OC, EC) in Busan was evaluated, and compared with that of Seoul. The study period over the recent three years was sub-divided into two periods: Pre-COVID (2018~2019) and COVID (2020) periods, and the differences in observed annual and monthly variations between the two periods were explored here. The results indicated that annual mean PM2.5 mass concentrations decreased during the COVID period by 16% in Seoul and 29% in Busan, and the satellite-observed annual average of aerosol optical depth (AOD) over the Korean Peninsula also decreased by approximately more than 10% compared with that of the Pre-COVID period. All of the five chemical components decreased but no particular changes were found in their fractions occupied during the COVID period. However, over the Lock-down period (2020-March), the sulfate fraction decreased in Seoul, mostly reflecting the recent Chinese trends of aerosol characteristics, whereas the nitrate fraction considerably decreased in Busan, which was attributable to the local emission changes and their variabilities in Busan. Other meteorological characteristics such as higher frequencies of easterly winds in the Busan area during the COVID period were also discussed in comparison with those in the Seoul area.

Objective : To analyze trends in the incidence and treatment of diseases associated with ischemic stroke, namely, cerebral infarction (CI), cerebral arterial stenosis (CASTN), and moyamoya disease (MMD), based on Korean National Health Insurance Service (NHIS) data from 2008 to 2016. Methods : Data was extracted from the national health-claim database provided by the NHIS for 2008-2016 using International Classification of Diseases codes. The crude and age-standardized incidences of each disease (CI, CASTN without a history of CI, and MMD) were calculated; additional analyses were conducted according to age and sex. Trends in the number of patients undergoing treatment according to treatment method were analyzed for each disease using the Korean Classification of Diseases procedure codes. Results : In 2016, the total number of adults with newly diagnosed CI was 83939, reflecting a 9.4% decrease from that in 2008. The age-standardized incidence of CI in adults was 153.2 per 100000 person-years in 2016, reflecting a 37.2% decrease from that in 2008, while that of CASTN was 167.3 per 100000 person-years in 2016, reflecting a 73.3% increase from that in 2008. Among treated cases, the number of patients who underwent intra-arterial (IA) treatment, including IA fibrinolysis and mechanical thrombectomy, showed the most prominent increase, increasing at an annual rate of 25.8%. For CASTN, the number of cases treated with carotid artery stenting or balloon angioplasty (CAS) showed the most prominent increase, increasing at a rate of 69.8% over the 9-year period. For MMD, the total number of patients with newly diagnosed MMD and that with adult MMD demonstrated significantly increasing trends, while the number of pediatric patients with newly diagnosed MMD declined by 18.0% over the 9-year period. The age-standardized incidences of pediatric and adult MMD in 2016 were 2.4 and 3.4 per 100000 person-years, respectively. Conclusion : Although the incidence of CI showed a declining trend over a 9-year period, the number and proportion of patients treated for CI increased. Meanwhile, the incidence of CASTN and the number of patients treated for CASTN have demonstrated increasing trends since 2008. On the other hand, the number of patients diagnosed with pediatric MMD decreased, despite no significant change in the incidence. In contrast, the number of patients and the incidence of adult MMD increased. These trends reflect changes in the population structure, gains in the accessibility of imaging examinations, and the development of endovascular techniques.
The purpose of this study is to provide a general trends in recent terrorism in North America and Europe over the last five years. In particular the terrorism which occurred after 2012 shows the transition in trends as terrorists attacks civilians and public places(soft target) rather than targeting national facilities or specific people. For instance, the Parris terror attack and Barcelona vehicle attack shows this changes clearly. The terrorists appeared to attack ordinary people in urban places with high population density. Although the trends are changing, there are still few studies focusing on the current situation, and most of the previous studies have focused on changing in strategies and counter-terrorism in each country after the 9.11 terror. Meanwhile, studies examining the trends of terrorism have been limited to analyzing few cases or using relatively monolithic data of Global Terrorism Data(GTD). While the types of terrorism that occur recent years including 'new terrorism' in many respects, it seems to be difficult to classify with GTD data and/or case studies. Therefore, it is necessary to construct new data that perhaps grasp the recent trend of terrorism from different perspectives. In this point of view, this Based on this, this study collects terrorism data from North America and Europe for the past five years, by using the National Intelligence Service's annual report on terrorism as a sampling framework and analyse the trends and changes. The result shows similarities in the methods of attack, and the type of weapon they used. As vehicle attacks has been raised in few years, damage area has been widen and casualties also have been increased.

Long-term annual water balances are analyzed for two forest catchments located in Gwangneung covered with forests of different types and ages. The water balance trends of the two catchments from 1982 to 2009 are compared to identify the effect of forest growth and thinning on the water balance in a planted coniferous forest catchment. According to the averaged annual precipitation and runoff for the four designated periods from 1982 to 2009, the water balance of the old natural broad-leaved forest catchment (GB) remained relatively unchanged. In contrast, the young planted coniferous forest catchment (GC) showed significant changes in the water balance due to the forest growing and thinning. The results showed that the catchment runoff decreases with increasing tree age whereas the forest thinning results in an increase in catchment runoff. The mean annual runoff from the catchment GC after thinning increased by 1.7 times, compared with the mean annual runoff before forest thinning. The mean annual runoff from the catchment GB was very stable throughout the period. However, such an effect of forest thinning appeared to last only for about 10 year-period, after which the water yield increment in the catchment GC disappeared. It indicates that the proper forest management should be reconsidered at the interval of 10 years to effectively reduce water loss and increase water yield in the planted coniferous forest.
