The area of the basin is at about 2088km$^2$ in the middle part of Nackdong River Basin and it is located along the Seoul-Pusan Express Highway. The mean annual rainfall is about 974.7m/m, most of which falls from June to September during the monsoon. Accumulated wet period is appeared approximately after every 8 year's accumulated dry-period with the duration of 5 years. The water bearing formations in the basin include unconsolidated alluvial deposits in Age of Quatenary, saprolite derived from weathered crystalline rocks, Kyongsang sedimentary formations of the period from late Jurassic to Cretaceouse, and igneouse rocks ranging of the Age from Mesozoic to Cenozoic. The most productive ground water reservoir in the basin is calcareouse shale and sandstones of Kyongsan system, which occupies about 66% of the total area.

To know characteristics of water quality in coastal sea around the Keum river estuary in summer, we studied the water quality of surface, middle and bottom level during Jun e~september, 1998. The mean concentrations of COD, DIN, DIP & chlorophyll-a were 1.36mg/L, 28.60㎍-at/L, 0.48㎍-at/L and 4.14㎍/L, respectively, which were over eutrophication criteria in sea water. After the Keum river dyke was constructed, seasonal freshwater discharge was largely changed. About 80% of total annual freshwater discharge was concentrated in summer as rainy season from July to September. The correlation coefficient of DIN versus salinity was shown to be high, and thus the concentration of DIN was closely related to freshwater discharge. Maximum Chlorophyll-a concentration was occurred in September, due to increased DIP concentration, high water temperature and low salinity after heavy rainfall in August. The results of Principal Component Analysis showed that the first factor represented a series of eutrophication factors, the second factor w3s a valiance of seasonal fluctuation, and the third was a variance of progress of mass change.
The evaluation of potential submarine groundwater is an important research topic for exploring an alternative water resource. Two different approaches, water budget analysis and Rn mass balance method, were employed to investigate the annual variation of submarine groundwater discharge in 2010 at a marine watershed located at the south-eastern part of Korean Peninsula. In order to obtain reliable hydrological data during study period, temporal and spatial variations of rainfall and soil moisture had been collected and hydro-meterological data such as temperature, humidity and wind speed were collected The runoff response was simulated using SCS-CN method with spatial distributions of landuse and soil texture from GIS analysis. Six different methods were used to estimate the monthly variation of evapotranspiration and field measurements of soil moisture were used to account for the infiltration. Comparisons of infiltration and surface runoff between simulation and water balance with measurements showed coincidence. The water budget analysis and Rn mass balance method provide mean daily submarine groundwater as 5.35 and 4.07 $m^3/m/day$ in 2010, respectively.

The Wonhyo Tunnel on KTX railroad line is a section of latest concerns from domestic environmental NGOs, which focus on potential destruction of ecosystem or the like due to ever-depleted swamp water at about 300m upward from the tunnel under construction. As a result of study, out of all swamps in the vicinity of the tunnel, it was found that Mujechi 1st and 2nd swamps have been getting smaller in their area little by little since 50 years ago primarily under the influence of eroded streams around lower swamp and even ever-increasing annual mean temperature. As the result of monitoring about swamp before work, it was found that swamp water depends absolutely on amount of rainfall. Besides, the results of monitoring during work also didn't show any leakage generated in the tunnel during and after excavation works with regard to a wheat field swamp in the most vicinity of the tunnel (80m away). On the other hand, it was found that the range affected by ground water sink in tunnel section without grouting process amounted to about 100m around the tunnel, which indicates that such ground water sink has no significant impact upon most of swamps near the tunnel. As the result of testing by two well tracer test around swamps, it was noted that swamp water didn't run out from the bottom of swamp even with adjacent ground water level sunk in factitious ways. And the results of physical survey showed that swamp kept saturated even in dry season when ground water level becomes lower than the bottom of swamp. Therefore, even supposing that ground water level becomes sunk due to tunnel works, it is estimated that the water level of swamps would be still kept owing to impervious layer(peat beds).

The results of aquifer test on Gyongsang sedimentary formation show that average pumping capacity of a well drilled into the formation with drilling diameter and average depth of $8{\frac{1}{2}}$ inch and 136m is $738m^3/day$ and also average specific capacity of those well is estimated $77.8m^3/D/M$. Total amount of the ground water reserved in the basin is approximately estimated at 37 billion metric tons, being equivalent 18 years total precipitations, among which 7 billion metric tons of portable ground water can be easily utilized in depth of 200 meters.

A Grid-based distributed evaporation prediction model which calculates temporal and spatial evaporation with a heat balance method was developed. And, the model was considered as the integration with distributed hydrological model in near future. 'This model was programmed by fortran language and used ASCII formatted map data of DEM (Digital Elevation Model) and land cover map extracted by remote sensing data. Also, temporal variations and spatial distributions of evaporation are presented by using GIS. To verify the applicability of the model, it was applied to the Shonai river basin ($532km^2$) which has sufficient meteorological and hydrological data, Japan. The result shows that the estimated mean annual evaporation was 825.4mm, and this value is estimated as suitable things in considering rainfall and discharge data in study area.

This study investigates the trends and uncertainty of the impacts of climate change on paddy rice production in the Geumho river basin. The Long Ashton Research Station stochastic Weather Generator (LARS-WG) was used to derive future climate data for the Geumho river basin from 15 General Circulation models (GCMs) for 3 Special Report on Emissions Scenarios (SRES) (A2, A1B and B1) included in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) 4th assessment report. The Food and Agricultural Organization (FAO) AquaCrop, a water-driven crop model, was statistically calibrated for the 1982 to 2010 climate. The index of agreement (IoA), prediction efficiency ($R^2$), percent bias (PBIAS), root mean square error (RMSE) and a visual technique were used to evaluate the adjusted AquaCrop simulated yield values. The adjusted simulated yields showed RMSE, NSE, IoA and PBIAS of 0.40, 0.26, 0.76 and 0.59 respectively. The 5, 9 and 15 year central moving averages showed $R^2$ of 0.78, 0.90 and 0.96 respectively after adjustment. AquaCrop was run for the 2020s (2011-2030), 2050s (2046-2065) and 2090s (2080-2099). Climate change projections for Geumho river basin generally indicate a hotter and wetter future climate with maximum increase in the annual temperature of $4.5^{\circ}C$ in the 2090s A1B, as well as maximum increase in the rainfall of 45 % in the 2090s A2. The means (and ranges) of paddy rice yields are projected to increase by 21 % (17-25 %), 34 % (27-42 %) and 43 % (31-54 %) for the 2020s, 2050s and 2090s, respectively. The A1B shows the largest rice yield uncertainty in all time slices with standard deviation of 0.148, 0.189 and $0.173t{\cdot}ha^{-1}$ for the 2020s, 2050s and 2090s, respectively.
The objectives of this study were to compare nutrient natural input between thinned and unthinned natural hardwood stands at Mt. Joongwang, Pyongchang-gun, Gangwon-do. Throughfall, stemflow, A-layer and B-layer soil water as well as litterfall were sampled at two-week intervals during the period of June to October from 2002 to 2004. The amount of rainfall interception in thinned and unthinned natural hardwood stands was as 12% and 18%, respectively. The results indicated that there was no difference in annual nutrient input by rainfall between thinned and unthinned stands. $Na^+$, $Cl^-$ and $SO_4{^{2-}}$ concentrations of A-layer soil water in the unthinned stand were higher than those in the thinned stand. In the B-layer soil water, $Ca^{2+}$, $Cl^-$, $NO_3{^-}$ and $SO_4{^{2-}}$ concentrations in the unthinned stand were higher than those in thinned stand. Mean annual litterfall input was $2,706kg\;ha^{-1}$ in unthinned stand and $2,589kg\;ha^{-1}$ in thinned stand. Total-N input from litterfall was $50.28kg\;ha^{-1}yr^{-1}$ in the unthinned stand and $36.81kg\;ha^{-1}yr^{-1}$ in the thinned stand, while there was no difference in exchangeable cation input from litterfall between thinned and unthinned stands. Thus, the difference in nutrient inputs except for N by throughfall, stemflow and litterfall between the two stands was not influenced by thinning.

This study was conducted to examine genetic variation on leaf characteristics of Zelkova serrata populations. Leaf samples were obtained from eighteen populations and fourteen leaf characteristics such as leaf blade length, leaf width, leaf area and etc. were measured. In all leaf characteristics, there were significant differences among populations and among individuals within population. Most variance of leaf characteristics was contributed to among individuals within population except for length from leaf base to maximum width (x3) and the ratio of x3 to leaf blade length (x10). The relatively high variations of leaf characteristics were found at Gurye, Jungeup and Gyungju populations while Youngwol, Cheongsong, Youngchun populations showed the lower variation. There was high correlation among leaf characteristics related to leaf size, but not among the variables of ratio between leaf characteristics. Length from leaf base to maximum width(x3) and the ratio of x3 to x10 showed significant positive correlation with latitude and altitude of populations, which reflect the differences of mean annual temperature among populations. Mean annual rainfall of populations showed negative correlation with leaf blade length, leaf width, length from apex to first serration and leaf area. Four principal components (PC) were deduced from principal component analysis, which explain the 88.5% of total variance of leaf characteristics. Leaf area, length from leaf base to maximum width, serration number and petiole length showed the highest contribution to PC1, PC2, PC3, PC4, respectively. According to cluster analysis, the populations of Z. serrata were divided into two groups, which reflect the difference of mean annual temperature between groups. Within group, however, specific tendency of clustering was not observed among populattions.
