Psvchoacoustical Evaluation of Floor Impact Noise (바닥충격음의 심리음향학적 평가)

  • Floor impact noises in apartment buildings have been investigated as they are most annoying in living environment. Several experiments were undertaken to compare perceived noisiness of floor impact noises generated by bang and tapping machine along with children's jumping and running. Results show that bang noise is more annoying than tapping noise and floor impact noise generated by children is less annoying than the noise generated by machine. The floor impact noise generated by children's jumping and running corresponds well with the bang-machine noise in terms of loudness, unbiased annoyance, ${\Phi}$$\_$0/ and IACC. The noise generated by children is somewhat different from machine noise; in spatial impression the real noise is similar to tapping-machine noise but is less annoying that the machine noises.

Application of Time-Frequency Analysis as a Tool for Noise Quality Control of DC Motor Systems (DC 모터계의 소음 품질관리를 위한 시간-주파수 분석의 적용)

  • In the quality assurance check process of DC motor systems, even though the overall sound pressure level is acceptable, there is an incident that subjective evaluation leads to failure in product quality due to annoying noise. This kind of problem may be originated from the manufacturing or assembly process. In this paper, the transient spectral analysis, or the time-frequency analysis is applied to the noise quality problem. For the case study, the cause of annoying noise in the wind shield wiper motor is experimentally analyzed in detail. It is concluded that the defect in the shaft causes the impact noise which is not detectable by steady spectral analysis. Also demonstrated is how the time-frequency analysis is effectively applied to the annoying noise identification of the rotor-gear system.

  • In this study, the extracted words from the former study such as annoying, loud, noisy, irritating, disagreeable, strident, disturbed, and dissonant are given to subjects in psycho acoustic experiment lab. And then, correlation analysis between the words and floor impact noise rating method were carried out. As a result of this study followings are suggested ‘Annoying’ is the word most accurately expressing the subjects’ unpleasant feeling of domestic floor impact noise. The results of this study could be basic materials for psycho acoustic experiments for criteria on floor impact noise and Sound Classification on Floor Impact Sound Insulation Performance.

  • For the accurate evaluation of traffic noise with various spectrums and fluctuation characteristics, evaluation systems should reflect not only physical quantities but also the psychological respects of individual persons. In this study, adequate words for evaluating traffic noise have been extracted by reviewing the existing vocabularies and augmenting this with the results of a questionnaire prepared especially for apartment dwellers. As a result of this study, followings are suggested. 1) Vocabularies such as 'disagreeable', 'annoying', 'strident', 'disturbed', 'irritate', 'unpleasant', 'dislike' are classified into the first factor by factor analysis. 2) As a result of surveying overlapping vocabularies for each sound sources, 'noisy', 'annoying', strident', 'unpleasant', 'loudness' are main unpleasant vocabularies to franc noise occurring in our domestic apartment houses.

  • There are a lot of efforts to improve noise and vibration in compressor. It had depended on experiments to reduce the annoying noise and vibration raised by costumer complaints until the twentieth century. But a trend of noise and vibration research changed tremendously by simulation techniques. Simulation techniques are also applied to fields on acoustic and valve dynamics etc, to validate a experiment and improve the performance of various fields in noise and vibration.

  • In this study the traffic noises were investigated for the subjective allowing limitation ion and the testified classes, 7 point scale was selected to evaluate the annoyance level with vocabularies. As a result, 'relatively annoying' is the most suitable expression for the allowing 1imitation, and the sound pressure levels for the traffic was 44.4㏈.

  • In this study the drainage noises were investigated for the subjective allowing limitation and the testified classes. 7 point scale was selected to evaluate the annoyance level with vocabularies. As a result, 'a little annoying' is the most suitable expression for the allowing limitation, and the sound pressure levels for the urinal was 43.5㏈ and the bathtub was 44.6㏈.

  • Recently Among indoor noises plumbing noise from supply and drain water pipe is being pointed out as a annoying noise following to floor impact noise, and it is increasing the rate to point the noise due to the following several reasons: water pressure, vibration by fabricated structures and direct noise propagation from upper floor through ceiling This study aims to analyse the characteristics of toilet stool plumbing noise in apartment bathroom which are generated by crossing plumbings and elbows. And it analyse the effect of noise reduction by soundproofing and insulations which are covered at crossing plumbings. And also analyse the characteristics of noise about a type of elbows, crossing plumbing and result of dB(A). At last it provide a fundamental data for the purpose of reduction of plumbing noise in apartment.

  • Recently in Korea, noise is one of the most important social issues because the living standard becomes more higher. Railway noise is also annoying one in our society, although railway has very positive role in our country. The major measures for mitigation of railway noise in Korea are rail welding and installation of noise barrier on the noisy area. But these measures have its own limit for the calm and comfortable living environment. In Europe the railway noise problem has been treated more systematically and aggressively, there has been emission noise standard for Trans-European rail network. In this paper, the trend of noise standard for railway vehicles will be reported and the check point for our country will be discussed.

  • Severe fork-lift truck noise is annoying to an operator as well as one of the noise pollution elements. This paper presents the noise contribution analysis of a cabin type fork-lift truck to identify the major sources and its usage to reduce the interior noise level. The methodologies for this work are sound field analysis, sound intensity test, insertion loss test of duct system and etc. An effective method to suppress interior noise level of fork-lift truck and design guides are suggested.
