  • For the safe handling of anisole, this study was investigated the explosion limits of anisole in the reference data. The flash points and auto-ignition temperatures (AITs) by ignition delay time were experimented. The lower flash points of Anisole by using closed-cup tester were experimented in $39^{\circ}C$ and $42^{\circ}C$. The lower flash points of Anisole by using open cup tester were experimented in $50^{\circ}C$ and $54^{\circ}C$. This study measured relationship between the AITs and the ignition delay times by using ASTM E659 tester for Anisole. The AIT of Anisole was experimented as $390^{\circ}C$. The lower explosion limit (LEL) by the measured the lower flash point for Anisole were calculated as 1.07 Vol%.

  • An anticoagulant, 4-hydroxy-3-[1, 2, 3, 4-tetrahydro-3-[4-(4-trifluoromethylbenzyloxy)phenyll-1 -naphthyl]coumarin (Flocoumafen) was synthesized in 8 steps starting from phenylacetyl shloride and anisole. The key step in the synthesis involves the reaction of 3-(4-methoxyphenyl)-1-teralol with 4-hydroxycoumarin to give 4-hydroxy-3 [1, 2, 3, 4-tetrahydro-3-[4-emthoxyphenyl]-1-naphthyl]coumarin.

  • By ink-jet printing method, organic thin-film transistors (OTFTs) having soluble 6,13-bis (triisopropylsilylethynyl) pentacene (TIPS pentacene) as an active material were fabricated. The TIPS pentacene solution was made with chlorobenzene and anisole. The solutions were printed on poly (4-vinylphenol) (PVP) dielectric layers and source/drain electrodes by piezo-type heads for bottom contact OTFTs. The dielectric layers had untreated or HMDS-treated conditions. The chlorobenzene device showed the highest field effect mobility of $0.016\;cm^2/Vs$ and the anisole HMDS-treated device shows the highest $I_{on}/I_{off}$ ratio of $10^5$.

  • Hydroxylation of anisole with $H_2O_2$ was investigated by employing Fe(III) ion and N-dodecyl-3,4-dihydroxybenzamide (DDHB) as a catalyst. The study was aimed at obtaining an insoluble catalyst with a long catalytic life, in view of the inactivation of the catechol portion of the catalyst during the reaction. The rate of decomposition of $H_2O_2$ under various conditions indicated that the reaction proceeds through the catalytic participation of $Fe(III){\cdot}DDHB$. Yield of the hydroxylation products under various conditions revealed that $Fe(III){\cdot}DDHB$ is not inactivated during the reaction.

  • [(Benzene)Mn$(CO)_3$]$^+$ reacts with NaP(O) (OR)$_2$ (R = Me, Et, Ph) to give the phosphonate compound 1. Compound 1 reacts with R'Li (R = Me, Ph, $^nBu, ^tBu$) to yield the isomerized compound 2 and the alkylated compound 3. [(Toluene)Mn$(CO)_3$]$^+$ reacts with NaP(O)$(OMe)_2$ to give the phosphonate complexes 1-A and 1-B. Treatment of 1-A with $^tBuLi$ in THF affords complexes 3-A and 3-B with the later major. With 1-B only the complex 3-C is formed. [(Anisole)Mn$(CO)_3$]$^+$ reacts with NaP(O)$(OMe)_2$ to give the phosphate complex 1-C, which on treatment with $^tBuLi$ and then $H_2O$ yields compound 3-D. After demetallation of compound 3-D, meta-tertbutyl-anisole is obtained in a reasonable yield.

  • An experiment was conducted to investigate the effect of Butylated Hydroxy Anisole (BHA), Butylated Hydroxy Toluene (BHT), Pentoxifylline (PTX), Theophylline (TPY) and Theobromine (TBR) on cold protection ability of Murrah buffalo semen at room ($22-25^{\circ}C$) and refrigerated temperature ($4-7^{\circ}C$). Each semen sample was divided into six parts of equal volume and sperm concentration; the first was kept as a control and the remaining five were treated with BHA, BHT, PTX, TPY or TBR. Sperm motility, abnormal spermatozoa, live-dead count, hypo-osmotic swelling and acrosomal integrity were studied at room and refrigerated temperature for various incubation periods viz.; 0, 4, 8, 12 and 24 h at room and 0, 12, 24, 36, 48, 60 and 72 h at refrigerated temperature. Significant improvement in sperm motility, live-dead count, hypo-osmotic swelling and acrosomal integrity were observed in BHT, PTX and TPY fortified extender at room and refrigerated temperature for various incubation periods. From the present study it could be concluded that cold protection ability of buffalo semen can be improved through the addition of BHT followed by PTX and TPY.

  • The NMR spectra of 2,4-disubstituted or 2,4,6-trisubstituted anisole derivative were examined to study the chemical shift of the ring proton signal. It was found that the chemical shift of the ring proton nearest to the 2-substituted group was influenced by the deshielding effect of the neighboring substituted groups in order of the Van der Waals radii of those groups. These observations were interpreted as a steric influence of 2-substituted group on the reactivity of the neighboring ring proton itself. The spectroscopical data were presented and the results were discussed with views of the above conceptions.

  • 4-Allylanisole was polymerized with AlCl3 as a catalyst. The polymerization was carried out in nitroethane at various temperatures with changing the ratio of the initiator to the monomer concentration. The weight averge molecular weights measured by gel permeation chromatography in chloroform with polystyrene standards were between 1,500 and 4,700. 1H NMR spectroscopy showed that the polymerization proceeded through a stepwise aromatic electrophilic substitution reaction along with a minor chain-reaction, resulting in a branched polymer. 4-Chloromethylanisole was also polymerized with AlCl3 in nitroethane through an aromatic electrophilic substitution reaction to give a high molecular weight polymer (Mw=88,000).
