  • Half channel angular extrusion(HCAE) is the integration of equal channel angular extrusion(ECAE), which is a well-known severe plastic deformation(SPD) method, with conventional forward extrusion in order to increase the strain per pass and effectiveness of the grain refinement. In the current study, the effects of processing routes during HCAE(Routes A, B, and C) on the strain distribution of the specimens have been investigated for an AZ61 Mg alloy by using three-dimensional finite element analysis. Comparisons with the results from a multi-pass of ECAE are made.

  • The problems of welding distortion in a welded structures are major concern in heavy industry. Weld-induced angular distortion's formula, composed weld parameter such as heat input and plate thickness, is developed analytically by the use of an elliptic cylindrical inclusion with an eigenstrain in an infinite laminated plate theory. The source of angular distortion in weldments is the plastic strains, which are caused by non-uniform temperature gradient. The distributions of the plastic strain corresponding eigenstrain are assumed by the use of Rosenthal's solution expressing thermal history. Comparison of calculated results with experimental data shows the accuracy and validity of the proposed method.

  • The dynamic behavior of an automatic ball balancer (ABB) is studied considering the effects of gravity and angular velocity profiles. In this study, a physical model for an ABB installed on the Jeffcott rotor is adopted in order to investigate the effects of gravity and angular acceleration. The equations of motion for the rotor with ABB are derived by using Lagrange's equation. Based on derived equations, dynamic responses for the rotor are computed by using the generalized-o method. From the computed responses, the effects of gravity and angular velocity profiles on the dynamic behavior are investigated. It is found that the balancing of the rotor with ABB can be achieved regardless of gravity. It Is also shown that a smooth velocity profile yields relatively smaller vibration amplitude than a non-smooth velocity profile.

  • We demonstrate an acousto-optic mode converter based on a tapered optical fiber to efficiently generate orbital angular momentum states of light. In our scheme an acoustic wave is deployed to the waist of tapered optical fiber where two degenerate $HE_{21}$ modes leading to +1 and -1 orbital angular momentum eigen-modes are resonantly excited. The excitation of $TM_{01}$ and $TE_{01}$ modes is suppressed by enlarging the intermodal index difference between near-degenerate spatial modes. Numerical calculation for optimization of the taper diameter is provided. The experimental characterization of generated states is performed by analyzing the output far-field pattern and the spatial interference fringes with a uniform reference beam.

  • Piezoelectric or magnetostrictive materials, known as smart materials, have been researched widely for sensors or actuators in micro system technology. In our research, thick sol-gel lead zirconate titanate(Pb(Zr$\sub$1-x/Ti$\sub$x/)O$_3$) films were fabricated and their characteristics were investigated f3r angular rate sensor applications. The thickness of the PZT films is 1.5${\mu}$m, which is required by a vibration angular rate sensor for a good actuation and sensing. The remnant polarization of the PZT flms is 12.0 ${\mu}$C/$\textrm{cm}^2$. The electromechanical constants of PZT thin film showed the value of susceptance(B) of 4800${\mu}$ s at capacitance of 790pF. The PZT films were applied to the vibration angular rate sensor structure and the vibration of 1.78 ${\mu}$m in amplitude at the resonant frequency of 35.8㎑ was obtained by driving voltage of 5V$\sub$p-p/ of bulk piezoelectric materials with out of phase signal through voltage and inverting amplifier.

  • This study aims to construct the performance data for smoke-control zone and realize the safety of injection and pressurization room which is composed of supply air pressure zone, vestibule, smoke-control zone and stairwell. To obtain this, smoke-control system and the device of the opening-closing force of fire door are manufactured. This subject is the analysis of the closing force, angular velocity and fire door size in the case of fixed volume flow rate. Based on the results, closing force increased as fire door size and closing angular velocity increases. Also, it is remark that there exists a critical angular velocity, which maintains constant maximum closing force even though the angular velocity increases more.

  • Angular distortion due to differential settlement is one of the critical factors which influences on the stability and serviceability of a structure. The angular distortion criterion proposed by Bjerrum is generally used in practice. However, the measurement system used in field especially a road embankment site did not properly represent the angular distortion of a structure. The problem was related to the shortage and not proper installation of measurement gauges, and the incorrect understanding of the basic concept of angular distortion in interpretation of measurement data. These things were reveled by analyzing the measured data in the road embankment site. An improved measurement system has been suggested as a so-called "relative displacement measurement system" between columns with automatic measurement.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze bradykinesia of forearm movement in patients with Parkinson's disease (PD) as compared to those of normal subjects. A gyrosensor was selected for the measurement of forearm movement, because it can provide angular velocity signal which is free from the gravitational artifact and also because it can be conveniently used during clinical test of bradykinesia. Forty PD patients (age: $65.7\pm11.1$ yrs, H&Y stage:$2.3\pm0.5$), 14 age-matched elderly subjects ($65\pm3.9$ yrs) and 17 healthy young subjects ($24\pm2.1$ yrs) participated in this study. Angular velocity during forearm movement of pronation/supination was measured in both arms. Suggested quantitative measures of bradykinesia were root-mean-squared (RMS) angular velocity, RMS angle, peak power and total power which were derived from the angular velocity. ANOVA showed that all measures were significantly different among three groups (p<0.001). Subsequent post-hoc test revealed that all measures in PD patients were significantly smaller than in healthy elderly and healthy young subjects (p<0.05). This results suggest that PD patients can be differentiated from normal subjects using suggested measures.
