Radial, tilting 12-pad proceeding bearings are applied as the radial bearings of vertical rotors of water turbines. The mean loads are stable at the peripheral speeds of proceeding reaching 50 m/s. The operation of tilting 12-pads proceeding bearing has been introduced at the assumption of adiabatic oil film. The oil film pressure, temperature and viscosity distributions have been obtained by iterative solution of the Reynolds', energy and viscosity equations. The resulting oil film force, minimum oil film thickness, power loss, oil flow, maximum oil film pressure, maximum temperature have been computed for different load angle of bearing.
In this paper, we introduce the direction of arrival(DOA) estimation of distributed signal based on the improved ESPRIT algorithm. Most research on the estimation of DOA has been performed based on the assumption that the signal sources are point sources. However, we consider a two-dimensional distributed signal source model using improved ESPRIT algorithm. In the distributed signal source model, a source is represented by two parameters, the azimuth angle and elevation angle. We address the estimation of the elevation and azimuth angles of distributed sources based on the parametric source modeling in the three-dimensional space with two uniform linear arrays. The array output vector is obtained by integrating a steering vector over all direction of arrival with the weighting of a distributed source density function. We also develop an efficient estimation procedures that can reduce the computational complexity. Some examples are shown to demonstrate explicity the estimation procedures under the distributed signal source model.
In the preliminary design phase of explosion-proof structures, the use of P-I diagram is useful. Based on the fact that the deformation criteria at failure or heavy damage is significantly larger than the yield deformation, a closed form solution of normalized P-I diagram is proposed using the complete plastic resistance curve. When actual sizes and material properties of RC structural component are considered, the complete plasticity assumption shows only a maximum error of 6% in terms of strain energy, and a maximum difference of 9% of the amount of explosives in CWSD. Thru comparison with four field test results, the same damage pattern was predicted in all four specimens.

In order to study the effect of the magnetic anisotropy on the giant magnetoresistance (GMR), the angle dependent magnetoresistance (MR) was measured. The experimental results show that the maximum MR ratio depends on the angle between the direction of the applied field and that of the easy axis. The angular modulation of the MR ratio can be explained by the alignments of the two 'effective' magnetization vectors that are bound to their own easy axes. The typical property of MR loops at 2$\^$nd/ antiferromangtic maximum (AFM) such as two maxima was discussed in relation with the magnetic anisotropy (MA). The simulated results under an assumption of the two in-plane easy axes, which exist in the sample, were compared with the experiments.
In order to study the effect of the magnetic anisotropy on the giant magnetoresistance in a Co/Cu multilayered system, the angle dependent magnetoresistance (MR) was measured. The experimental results showed that the maximum MR ratio depends on the angle between the direction of the applied field and the easy axis. The angular modulation of the MR ratio can be explained by the alignments of the two 'effective' magnetization vectors that are bound to their own easy axes. Two maxima observed in MR loops at the second antiferromagnetic maximum are discussed in relation to the magnetic anisotropy, The simulated results under the assumption of the existence of two in-plane easy axes in the sample are compared with the experiments.

The sectional forming analysis considering bending effects from the geometrically deformed shape of two linear membrane finite elements(called super element) was performed under plane strain assumption for analyzing forming processes of an arbitrarily shaped draw-die. For the evaluation of bending effects, the bending equivalent forces are calculated from the bending moment computed using the changes in the interior angle at the middle node of super element, and are agumented to the membrane stretch forces. In order to verify the validity of the bending formulation, the simulation results for the stretch, draw, and bend sections were compared with membrane analysis results and measurements.

This paper describes the design process and the experimental results of a fuzzy logic controller to control the tip position of a fixible-link manipulator, directly driven by a AC motor, with a large payload. The joint angle fuzzy logic controller is designed without a costly nonlinear system analysis of the flexible manipulator and the AC motor drive system. The state variables for the fuzzy logic controller are joint angle, joint velocity, link deflection, and link deflection velocity. The simulation and experimental results show that the joint position control is not satisfactory when the controller is designed under the assumption of no link flexibility and that stable joint position control and link vibration suppression can be cahieved with the fuzzy logic controller suggested in this paper.
This paper discusses two algorithms for recommending notebook computer (NBC) and workstation adjustments so that the user can assume an ergonomic seated posture during NBC operation. Required input data are the user's anthropometric data and physical dimensions of the NBC and the workstation. The first algorithm is based on an assumption that there are no workstation constraints while the second algorithm considers the actual seat height and work surface height. The results from the algorithms include recommendations for adjusting the NBC (tilt angle of the NBC base unit, angle between the base and screen units, and base support height) and the workstation (heights of seat support and footrest, and distance between the body and the NBC).
In this research, we developed a computer code that designs a compressor impeller, which serves as an essential component of a vacuum cleaner, and predicted its performance. The TEIS model originally developed by Japikse(1985), and the mean line analysis m combined to design the centrifugal impeller optimally. In this program the inlet geometry is designed by using the mean line analysis, and with assumption of resonable exit blade angle, the optimal geometry is searched by means of TEIS model and iterative scheme. The performance of designed impeller was compared with experimental data, and the far-field noise by the rotating impeller is also predicted.

In order to measure non-intrusively velocity profile in liquid metal flow, a modified electromagnetic flowmeter was designed, which was based on electromagnetic tomography technique. Under the assumption that flow is fully-developed, axisymmetric and rectilinear, the velocity profile was reconstructed after the flowmeter equation, the first kind of Fredholm integration equation, was linearized. In reconstruction process Tikhonov regularization method with regularization parameter was used. The reconstructed velocity profile had the nearly same as turbulent flow profile which was approximately represented as log law. In addition, flowmeter output fur a fixed magnet rotation angle was linearly proportional to flow rate. When magnet rotation angle was 54$^{\circ}$, axisymmetric weight function was nearly uniform so that the flowmeter gives a constant signal for any fully-developed, axisymmetric and rectilinear profile with a constant flow rate.
