목재의 미세조직구조를 이용한 서각작품 제작 (The Manufacture of Calligraphy-Woodcarving Artwork Using Anatomical Micro Structure of Wood)

  • Marvelous calligraphy-woodcarving artwork was made by using the mysterious beauty of anatomical structure of wood. The wooden artwork uses not only beautiful external appearance of wood, but it also uses the mysterious beauty of anatomical micro structure of wood which can only be observed through optical microscope or scanning electron microscope. The characteristics of anatomical structure of wood were presented through various carving techniques. The used wood species for the artwork include Quercus acutissima Carruth., Cinnamomum japonicum Sieb., Betula davurica PALL, Magnolia kobus A.P.DC, Populus maximowiczii HENRY, Betula schmidtii REGEL and Plerocaya stenoptera DC. These various types of woodcarving techniques are anticipated to be applied to the techart marketing for architecture as a field of environment art.

사람해부학 용어에 대한 한·양방 비교 연구 (A Comparative Study for Anatomical Terms in Oriental and Western Medicine)

  • Anatomical terms is very important for the whole medical area. In the past, medical student have confused with the anatomical terms which were base on Japanish-Chinese. So they have to be made easily for reading and learning. Fortunately the anatomical terms in Korean had completely made through the fourth edition. According to the oriental law and customs human dissection was prohibited, therefore human anatomy naturally undeveloped. In this study, on the view of the Korean terms carried out the comparison between oriental and western anatomical terms in osteology and splanchnology. The oriental anatomical terms expressed with only looking at and touching the part of the human body. The gross structure of the osteology, is similar to oriental and western medicine but there's no detailed nomenclature of the bone. Instead of it, they expressed connection to acupuncture point or disease in the human body. So it's difficult to find out the anatomical terms of the splanchnology like recent ones.

척추의 해부학적 요소를 고려한 척추경 나사못 디자인의 Pullout 특성 연구 (A Study on Pullout Characteristics of Pedicle Screw Design Considering Anatomical Structure of the Lumbar Spine)

  • Recently, various types of pedicle screws have been developed considering the anatomical structure of the spine. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the pullout stiffness and strength of two types of commercial pedicle screws. The design of two type screws were single pitched thread (ST) pedicle screw and dual pitched thread (DT) pedicle screw, respectively. The tests were conducted in accordance with the ASTM standards using polyurethane (PU) test blocks which has anatomical structure of the spine. There was no significant difference in pullout stiffness between two types of screw. However, DT exhibited higher pullout strength than ST (p<0.05). Pedicle screw with dual pitched thread showed higher pullout strength without decrease in pullout stiffness compared to the standard pedicle screw. In conclusion, dual pitched thread design of the pedicle screw is considered to be more suitable than the single pitched thread for the anatomical structure of the spine.

Anatomical Structures and Fiber Quality of Four Lesser-Used Wood Species Grown in Indonesia

  • This study aimed to investigate the anatomical structure and fiber quality of four lesser-used wood species namely Benuang (O. sumatrana), Duabanga (D. moluccana), Pisang Merah (H. hellwigii), and Terap (A. odoratissimus). This study evaluated its suitability for raw material in pulp and paper manufacturing. The anatomical structure was observed macro- and microscopically. Macroscopic structures were observed directly to the wood samples, while microscopic characteristics were observed through microtome specimens. Fiber dimension was measured through macerated specimens and fiber quality was analyzed following the Rachman and Siagian's method. Results showed that these four timber species have similarity in the indistinct growth ring, diffuse porous in a radial pattern, rounded solitary vessel outline, 1 to 3 cells of ray width, deposits within the rays, fiber length, and cell wall thickness. Differences were found on vessel diameter, vessel grouping, vessel frequency, tyloses existence, type of axial parenchyma, and ray height. Based on fiber length and its derived values, the wood fibers of all species studied are suitable for pulp and paper manufacturing. They belong to the II quality class. The produced pulp and paper would have good quality, especially in tensile, folding, and tear strength. To promote their utilization, silviculture aspect of these four species has to be well understood.

보툴리눔 톡신 주사를 위한 깨물근 얕은층의 임상해부학적 고찰 (Clinical anatomic consideration of the superficial layer of the masseter muscle for botulinum toxin injection)

  • In clinical dentistry, botulinum toxin is generally used to treat the square jaw, bruxism, and temporomandibular joint diseases. Recently, this procedure has been expanded and applied for cosmetic purposes, and it is becoming a key task to be aware of the precise anatomical structure of the target muscles to be cautious during treatment and how to prevent side effects. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to observe the anatomical structure of the superficial layer of masseter muscle and to provide a most effective botulinum toxin injection method through clinical anatomical consideration. It was observed that the muscle belly of superficial part of the superficial layer was originated from the deep to the aponeurosis of masseter muscle and descend, then changed gradually into the tendon structure attaching to the inferior border of the mandible. In this study, we named this structure deep inferior tendon. This structure was observed in all specimens. We conclude that the use of superficial layer and deep layer injection should be considered to prevent paradoxical masseteric bulging in consideration of the deep inferior tendon of superficial part of superficial layer of masseter muscle.

  • 자기공명 관절 조영술(Shoulder MR Arthrography)는 견관절(Shoulder joint) 의 복잡한 해부학적 구조에 관하여 정확한 영상평가를 진단하기 위해 시행 한다. 우리는 어께 상완골(Shoulder humerus) 의 다양한 position인 Neutral position, Internal rotation position, External rotation position 에 관하여 Shoulder joint의 해부학 적인 회전 변화가 견관절 자기공명(Shoulder MRI) 영상에 어떤 진단적 결과를 가져오는가에 대해 상호 비교 하였다. 또한 환자의 정확한 촬영자세 유지를 위해 촬영 보조기구를 만들었다. 이 보조기구는 Modeling 설계에 의해 우리가 직접 제작한 자기공명 견관절 조영술 보조 기구이다. 이 보조기구를 사용하여 촬영한 결과 다음과 같은 결론을 도출해 내었다. External rotation position 에 의한 Shoulder MRArthrography 검사가 Shoulder joint의 중요 해부학적 구조인 Biceps tendon, Supera-spiatus tendon, Sub-scapularis tendon, Labrum, Sub-acromial space 의 해부학적 평가에서 제일 적합하다는 진단적 평가를 얻었다.

담즙 세포학 표본 362건의 검색 (Analytic Study of 362 Bile Cytologic Materials)

  • A total of 362 bile samples from 104 patients with evidence of biliary tract obstruction were submitted for diagnostic cytology from January, 1989 to April, 1991. The patients were classified based on the obstructive cause, and the cytologic results were reviewed. 298 of the specimens were from patients with intrabiliary malignant structure, and 17 were from patients with extrabiliary malignant compression or benign biliary obstruction. Bile cytology was positive for carcinoma in 42 samples from patients with intrabiliary malignant stricture, and the diagnostic sensitivity was 14%. There were no false positive cases. We concluded that the cause of low sensitivity was degenerative change of cell due to prolonged sampling time. What is noteworthy was the high prevalence of Clonorchis sinensis eggs, being detected in 25 patients with intrabiliary malignancy, supporting the association between clonorchiasis and biliary tree malignancy.

세침흡인 검사로 진단된 갑상선 유두상 암종의 세포학적 소견 (Cytologic Feature of Papillary Carcinoma of the Thyroid)

  • Fine needle aspiration biopsy cytology (FNA) is an important diagnostic tool in the management of thyroid nodule. Especially, papillary carcinoma of the thyroid has distinct morphologic features that allow a definite cytologic diagnosis with high degree of accuracy. We examined the characteristic cytologic features of 57 cases of papillary carcinoma of the thyroid, and their frequency and diagnostic significance were evaluated. The results obtained are summerized as follows; 1. In pattern of cellular arrangement, papillary structure with or without stroma is predominant feature (96%). 2. In individual cell morphology, grooved nuclei (95%), intranuclear cytoplasmic invagination (89%) and nuclear lobulation (74%) are most frequent and important cytologic findings. 3. Chromatin pattern is usually fine. Coarse chromatin is infrequent finding (37%). Nucleoli are inconspicuous. Cytoplasm us plump and distinctly eosinophilic. 4. Psammoma bodies are identified only in 4 cases (7%), but they are considered as helpful diagnostic features. 5. There are other associated findings including multinucleated giant cells (51%), macrophages (37%) and cystic degeneration (16%).

Accessory mental foramen: A rare anatomical variation detected by cone-beam computed tomography

  • The mental foramen is a bilateral opening in the vestibular portion of the mandible through which nerve endings, such as the mental nerve, emerge. In general, the mental foramen is located between the lower premolars. This region is a common area for the placement of dental implants. It is very important to identify anatomical variations in presurgical imaging exams since damage to neurovascular bundles may have a direct influence on treatment success. In the hemimandible, the mental foramen normally appears as a single structure, but there are some rare reports on the presence and number of anatomical variations; these variations may include accessory foramina. The present report describes the presence of accessory mental foramina in the right mandible, as detected by cone-beam computed tomography before dental implant placement.
