This study presents an analytical model of hydraulic clutch system of a power shift transmission to analyze pressure modulation characteristics. A typical hydraulic clutch system was modeled by using AMESim in which the parameters of major components were measured for simulation. Test apparatus was established using the components of power shift and power shuttle clutches with instrumental equipment. The results of simulation and experiment were so close that the proposed analytical model in this study was validated. However the cylinder model analogized clutch dynamics need to be improved in future study. The effects of parameters of orifice diameter, accumulator stroke and oil temperature on pressure modulation were analyzed respectively. The results of parameter sensitivity analysis show that modulation time and set pressure can be easily adjusted by changing parameter values. It is also found that the hydraulic clutch system used in this study is so susceptible to oil temperature that cooling equipment is necessary.
This paper deals with an electromagnetic analysis and control parameter estimation of a moving-coil linear oscillatory actuator (MCLOA). Analytical solutions for electromagnetic characteristics of the MCLOA are obtained from transfer relations derived in terms of a magnetic vector potential and two-dimensional (2-d) rectangular coordinate systems. And then, on the basis of 2-d analytical solutions, control parameters such as the thrust constant, the back-emf constant and winding inductances are estimated. Finally, analytical results for both electromagnetic characteristics and control parameters of the MCLOA are validated extensively by finite element (FE) analyses. In particular, test results such as static thrust, resistance and inductance measurements are given to confirm the analyses.
This paper presents a closed-form model for evaluating the restraint effect of pressure induced bending on the opening of a circumferential through-wall crack, which is considered plastic deformation behavior. Three-dimensional finite element analyses with different crack lengths, restraint conditions, pipe geometries, magnitudes of internal pressure, and tensile properties were used to investigate the influence of each parameter on the pressure-induced bending restraint on the crack opening displacement. From these investigations, an analytical model based on elastic-perfectly plastic material was developed in terms of the crack length, symmetric restraint length, mean radius to thickness ratio, axial stress corresponding to the internal pressure, and normalized crack opening displacement evaluated from a linear-elastic crack opening condition. Finite element analyses results demonstrate that the proposed analytical model reliably estimated the restraint effect of pressure-induced bending on the plastic crack opening of a circumferential through-wall crack and properly reflected the dependence on each parameter within the range over which the analytical expression was derived.
Two types of regularization method (singular system and HMP approaches) for generating depth-concentration profiles from angle-resolved XPS data were evaluated. Both approaches showed qualitatively similar results although they employed different numerical algorithms. The application of the regularization method to simulated data demonstrates its excellent utility for the complex depth profile system. It includes the stable restoration of the depth-concentration profiles from the data with considerable random error and the self choice of smoothing parameter that is imperative for the successful application of the regularization method. The self choice of smoothing parameter is based on generalized cross-validation method which lets the data themselves choose the optimal value of the parameter.

The objectives of the study are to present simple physical and mathematical models of liquid fuel in the tank of an aerospace vehicle such launch vehicle or missile and to investigate its dynamic stability for a parameter space. In this paper, liquid in the container is modeled as multi-mass system subject to parametric excitations, and a stability diagram for determination of stable-unstable regions of the motion is obtained by using an analytical method. Also, computer simulations are conducted at various parameter points to verify the analytical results, and time histories of motion are compared to explain the effect of variation of parameters of the system.

In this study, we investigated the dynamic stability of the system and the semi-analytical solution of the shallow arch. The governing equation for the primary symmetric mode of the arch under external load was derived and expressed simply by using parameters. The semi-analytical solution of the equation was obtained using the Taylor series and the stability of the system for the constant load was analyzed. As a result, we can classify equilibrium points by root of equilibrium equation, and classified stable, asymptotical stable and unstable resigns of equilibrium path. We observed stable points and attractors that appeared differently depending on the shape parameter h, and we can see the points where dynamic buckling occurs. Dynamic buckling of arches with initial condition did not occur in low shape parameter, and sensitive range of critical boundary was observed in low damping constants.

In this paper, a 4-wheel vehicle model including the effects of tire slip was considered, along with variable parameter sliding control, in order to improve the performance of the vehicle longitudinal response. The variable sliding parameter is made to be proportional to the square root of the pressure derivative at the wheel, in order to compensate for large pressure changes in the brake cylinder. A typical tire force-relative slip curve for dry road conditions was used to generate an analytical tire force-relative slip function, and an antilock sliding control process based on the analytical tire force-relative slip function was used. A retrofitted brake system, with the pushrod force as the end control parameter, was employed, and an average decay function was used to suppress the simulation oscillations. The simulation results indicate that the velocity and spacing errors were slightly larger than those obtained when the wheel slip effect was not considered, that the spacing errors of the lead and follower were insensitive to the adhesion coefficient up to the critical wheel slip value, and that the limit for the antilock control under non-constant adhesion road conditions was determined by the minimum value of the equivalent adhesion coefficient.
In order to design storage-based non-point source management facilities, the aspect of statistical features of the entire precipitation time series should be considered since non-point source pollutions are delivered by continuous rainfall runoffs. The 3-parameter mixed exponential probability density function instead of traditional single-parameter exponential probability density function is applied to represent the probabilistic features of long-term precipitation time series and model urban stormwater runoff. Finally, probability density functions of water quality control basin overflow are derived under two extreme intial conditions. The 31-year continuous precipitation time series recorded in Busan are analyzed to show that the 3-parameter mixed exponential probability density function gives better resolution.
We in this paper study nonlinear bending of a functionally graded porous nanobeam subjected to multiple physical load based on the nonlocal strain gradient theory. For more reasonable analysis of nanobeams made of porous functionally graded magneto-thermo-electro-elastic materials (PFGMTEEMs), both constituent materials and the porosity appear gradient distribution in the present expression of effective material properties, which is much more suitable to the actual compared with the conventional expression of effective material properties. Besides the displacement function regarding physical neutral surface is introduced to analyze mechanical behaviors of beams made of FGMs. Then we derive nonlinear governing equations of PFGMTEEMs beams using the principle of Hamilton. To obtain analytical solutions, a two-step perturbation method is developed in nonuniform electric field and magnetic field, and then we use it to solve nonlinear equations. Finally, the analytical solutions are utilized to perform a parametric analysis, where the effect of various physical parameters on static bending deformation of nanobeams are studied in detail, such as the nonlocal parameter, strain gradient parameter, the ratio of nonlocal parameter to strain gradient parameter, porosity volume fraction, material volume fraction index, temperature, initial magnetic potentials and external electric potentials.

Identification of structure parameters is crucial in Structural Health Monitoring (SHM) context for activities such as model validation, damage assessment and signal processing of structure response. In this paper, guided waves generated by piezoelectric transducers are used for in-situ and non-destructive structural parameter estimation based on Bayesian approach. As Bayesian approach needs iterative process, which is computationally expensive, this paper proposes a method in which an analytical model is selected and developed in order to decrease computational time and complexity of modeling. An experimental set-up is implemented to estimate three target elastic and geometrical parameters: Young's modulus, Poisson ratio and thickness of aluminum and steel plates. Experimental and simulated data are combined in a Bayesian framework for parameter identification. A significant accuracy is achieved regarding estimation of target parameters with maximum error of 8, 11 and 17 percent respectively. Moreover, the limitation of analytical model concerning boundary reflections is addressed and managed experimentally. Pulse excitation is selected as it can excite the structure in a wide frequency range contrary to conventional tone burst excitation. The results show that the proposed non-destructive method can be used in service for estimation of material and geometrical properties of structure in industrial applications.
