In this study, we investigated the gas chromatography (GC) and pulsed flame photometric detection (PFPD) system for the analysis of four major reduced S compounds including hydrogen sulfide ($H_2S$); methyl mercaptan ($CH_3SH$); dimethyl sulfide (DMS); and dimethyl disulfide (DMDS) contained in environmental samples. To analyze these compounds in high concentration range (above ppb level), we developed a high mode analytical setting with the loop-injection system. By contrast, we also established a low mode setting for the analysis of low concentration samples (ppt-level samples from ambient air) by the combination with thermal desorption unit (TDU). Comparative analysis of both settings revealed that relative detection properties of four S compounds are systematic enough. The results of high mode analysis indicated that the patterns were systematic among S compounds: $H_2S$ exhibited the lowest sensitivity, while DMDS showed the strongest one. The results were also compared in terms of sensitivity reductions for all compounds by dividing slope ratios between low and high mode system. Although low mode system exhibited significant reductions on the order of a few tens times, their detection characteristics were highly consistent as it was shown in the high mode setting. To learn more about absolute and relative relations between two different modes of S analysis, future studies may have to be directed to cover more complicated nature of GC/PFPD performance.

Three anode configurations of six-jet, cone-jet and cylindrical-jet are tested for their analytical performance under power mode operation. The effect of pressure, power and gas flow rate on atomic absorption signals have been studied. The increase of atomic absorption signal of sample element is observed at a fixed pressure in all configurations as the gas flow rate increase up to 300-600 seem, and as the power dissipated in the glow discharge cell increase. The lower the pressure is in the glow discharge cell at a fixed discharge power and argon flow rate, the greater the absorbance of sample element is. The optimum conditions are taken from these data and a calibration curve of Cu in low-alloy steel sample is obtained. In this calibration curve, six-jet configuration shows the best analytical results varies as the sample element.
A quantitation method for free amino acids in human serum was developed using a stepwise-dilution method and a bimodal cation exchange (CEX)/hydrophilic interaction liquid chromatography (HILIC)-tandem mass spectrometry system equipped with an electrospray ionization source (ESI/MS/MS). This method, which was validated using quality control samples, was optimized for enhanced selectivity and sensitivity. Dithiothreitol (DTT) was used as a reducing agent to prevent the oxidation of a serum sample ($50{\mu}L$), which was then subjected to stepwise dilution using 3, 30, and 90 volumes of acetonitrile containing 0.1% formic acid. Chromatographic separation was performed on an Imtakt Intrada Amino Acid column ($50mm{\times}3mm$, $3{\mu}m$) in mixed mode packed with CEX and HILIC ligands embedded in the stationary phase. Underivatized free amino acids were eluted and separated within 10 min. As a result of the validation, the precision and accuracy for the inter- and intraday assays were determined as 2.11-11.51% and 92.82-109.40%, respectively. The lowest limit of quantification (LLOQ) was $0.5-4.0{\mu}g/mL$ and the matrix effect was 80.22-115.93%. The proposed method was successfully applied to the quantitative analysis of free amino acids in human serum.

This study provided the analytical finite element method estimating the friction-induced noise on the complex beam structure. The frictional contact model was theoretically constructed and applied to the analytical finite element squeal model. The numerical results showed that the beam structure was excited by the mode-coupling instability of the specific system modes. Also, the direction of friction was shown to influence on the dynamic instability of the modes. Besides, the unstable modal frequencies estimated from the numerical calculation were validated by the experiment of the actual beam structure.
Conventional slope stability analysis is focused on calculating minimum factor of safety or maximum probability of failure. To minimize inherent uncertainty of soil properties and analytical model and to reflect various analytical models and its failure shape in slope stability analysis, slope stability analysis method considering simultaneous failure probability for multi failure mode was proposed. Linear programming recently introduced in system reliability analysis was used for calculation of simultaneous failure probability. System reliability analysis for various analytical models could be executed by this method. For application analysis for embankment, the results of this method shows that system stability of embankment calculate quantitatively.

This paper presents vibration testing, control, and finite element analysis of a piping system, which is subjected to the changes in fluid levels. Nuclear power plants typically employ a cooling system that uses sea water. These systems are subjected to dynamic characteristic changes caused by sea-level variations, which introduces failures of cooling system components. Therefore in this study, analytical and experimental studies were performed to understand the effect of sea-level changes on the dynamic characteristics of piping systems. It was shown that, as the sea-level increases, pipe's natural frequencies decreases in relation to its mode shape. A 1/14 scale model was also built to compare the results obtained by the analytical study. A good agreement between experiment and analytical studies were observed. Finally, an on-line resonant frequency identification system was proposed and developed, which utilizes piezoelectric transducers as sensors and actuators, in order to avoid catastrophic failure of piping systems.

The flywheel energy storage system using superconducting magnetic bearings is a device to store electrical energy as rotatioal kinetic energy by motor and to convert it to electrical energy by generator when it is necessary. The rotordynamic analysis should be performed with an adequate analytical model and equations of motion to identify the stable driving condition and the dynamic behavior. The critical speed and the unbalance response of superconducting magnetic bearings-flywheel system are studied in this paper. The analytical results show that the system has one forward whirling mode and two backward whirling models below 500rpm. The maximum displacement 0.75mm is detected at the first forward mode (385rpm)through unbalance response analysis. The analytical results are compared with the experimental result by the spin-down test. The experimental result shows that the maximum displacement is 0.7mm at 370rpm.

In this paper, two possible ways for mode shape expansion are proposed and opened for discussion for future use. The first method minimizes the modal flexibility error between the experimental and analytical mode shapes corresponding to the measured DOFs to find the multiplication matrix which can be treated as the least-squares minimization problem. In the second method, Normalized Modal Difference (NMD) is used to calculate multiplication matrix using the analytical DOFs corresponding to measured DOfs. This matrix is then used to expand the measured mode shape to unmeasured DOFs. A simulated simply supported beam is used to demonstrate the performance of the methods. These methods are then compared with two most promising existing methods namely Kidder dynamic expansion and Modal expansion methods. It is observed that the performance of the modal flexibility method is comparable with existing methods. NMD also have the potential to expand the mode shapes though it is seen more sensitive to the distribution of error between FEM and actual test data.

This paper was carried out to investigate the characteristics of interlaminar fracture toughness of foam core sandwich structures under opening loading mode by using the double cantilever beam (DCB) specimens in Carbon/Epoxy and foam core composites. instead of using symmetric geometry of DCB specimen non-symmetric DCB specimen was used to calculate the interlaminar fracture toughness. Three approaches for calculating the energy release rate({{{{ {G }_{IC } }}}}) were compared. Fracture toughness of foam core sandwich structures by autoclave vacuum bagging and hotpress were compared and analyzed. Experiment nonlinear beam bending FEM method were performed. Suggested bonding surface compensation and equivalent area inertia moment was used to calculate the energy release rate in nonlinear analytical results. The conclusions among experimental nonlinear analytical and FEM results was observed. The vacuum bagging method was shown to be able to substitute method in stead of autoclave without serious loss of Mode I energy release rate({{{{ {G }_{IC }}}}}) to be able to substitute method in stead of autoclave without serious loss of Mode I energy release rate({{{{ {G }_{IC }}}}}).

The Rayleigh-Ritz method is used to investigate the natural frequencies and mode shapes of the ring stiffened cylindrical shells with a rectangular cutout. The cutout is located on the center of the shell. The Love's thin shell theory combined with the discrete stiffener theory is adopted to formulate the analytical model of the shell. The effect of stiffener eccentricity, number, and position on vibration characteristics of the shell is examined. Also the effect of cutout size is examined. By comparison with previously published analytical and new FEM results, it is shown that natural frequencies and mode shapes can be determined with adequate accuracy.
