  • This paper presents an analytical results on limits of debonding failure for RC beams strengthened with near-surface mounted(NSM) CFRP strips. An analytical model was derived to predict the failure mode and the maximum load. An analytical model has two assumptions. The first is that the debonding failure occurs at the epoxy-concrete interfaces. The second is that the debonding failure occurs at the end of the FRP reinforcement due to concentration of shear stress. Results of the comparison of existing test data and analytical model data have predicted the failure mode and the maximum load well. Also, this paper proposed limits of debonding failure to prevent the debonding using the strengthening area and the groove depth.

  • In this study, we investigated the dynamic stability of the system and the semi-analytical solution of the shallow arch. The governing equation for the primary symmetric mode of the arch under external load was derived and expressed simply by using parameters. The semi-analytical solution of the equation was obtained using the Taylor series and the stability of the system for the constant load was analyzed. As a result, we can classify equilibrium points by root of equilibrium equation, and classified stable, asymptotical stable and unstable resigns of equilibrium path. We observed stable points and attractors that appeared differently depending on the shape parameter h, and we can see the points where dynamic buckling occurs. Dynamic buckling of arches with initial condition did not occur in low shape parameter, and sensitive range of critical boundary was observed in low damping constants.

  • Mono- and oligosaccharides are derivatized with p-aminobenzoic ethyl ester (ABEE), strongly absorbs UV light at 254 nm, in the presence of sodium cyanoborohydride. C18-bonded silica column is used for the separation of sugar-ABEE derivatives in an isocratic mode. RP-HPLC conditions are optimized by using ternary mixture as mobile phase and $45^{\circ}C$ as a column temperature. Sugar-ABEE derivatives are separated well within a short run time (ca. 25 min) by reverse-phase partition chromatographic mode. The ($1{\rightarrow}6$) linkage type of dihexose-ABEE derivatives has shorter retention time than ($1{\rightarrow}4$)-linkage type. After acid hydrolysis of glycoproteins with 2M trifluoroacetic acid, monosaccharide composition and contents are determined. This procedure is very useful for the simultaneous analysis of neutral and amino sugars in a single chromatographic step using RP-HPLC without reacetylation of deacetylated amino sugars, which are produced by acid hydrolysis.

  • This study dealt with the free vibration of two identical rectangular plates coupled with fluid. In order to investigate the vibration characteristics of fluid-coupled rectangular plates, an analytical method based on the finite Fourier series expansion and Rayleigh-Ritz method was suggested. A commercial computer code, ANSYS was used to perform finite element analysis and we investigated the vibration characteristics with mode shapes and natural frequencies. As a result, the transverse vibration modes, in-phase and out-of-phase, were observed alternately in the fluid-coupled system. The effect of fluid bounding and plate boundary condition on the fluid-coupled natural frequency were investigated. It was shown that the mode numbers increased, the normalized natural frequencies monotonically increased.

  • Several methods for improving the interlaminar strength and fracture toughness of composite materials are developed. Through-the-thickness stitching is considered one of the most common ways to prevent delamination. Stitching significantly increases the Mode I fracture toughness and moderately improves the Mode II fracture toughness. An analytical model has been developed for simulating the behavior of stitched double cantilever beam specimen under various loading conditions. For z-directional load and moment about the y-axis the numerical solutions are compared with the exact solutions. The derived formulation shows good accuracy when the relative error of displacement and rotation between numerical and exact solution were calculated. Thus we can use the present model with confidence in analyzing other problems involving stitched beams.

  • This paper extends a single equation, semi-analytical approach for three-span bridges to multi-span ones for the rapid and precise determination of natural frequencies and natural mode shapes of an orthotropic, multi-span plate. This method can be used to study the dynamic interaction between bridges and vehicles. It is based on the modal superposition method taking into account intermodal coupling to determine natural frequencies and mode shapes of a bridge deck. In this paper, a four- and a five-span orthotropic roadway bridge deck are compared in the first 10 modes with a finite element method analysis using ANSYS software. This simplified implementation matches numerical modeling within 2% in all cases. This paper verifies that applicability of a single formula approach as a simpler alternative to finite element modeling.

  • In this paper, we study the inverse mode shape problem for an Euler-Bernoulli beam, using an analytical approach. The mass and stiffness variations are determined for a beam, having various boundary conditions, which has a prescribed polynomial second mode shape with an internal node. It is found that physically feasible rectangular cross-section beams which satisfy the inverse problem exist for a variety of boundary conditions. The effect of the location of the internal node on the mass and stiffness variations and on the deflection of the beam is studied. The derived functions are used to verify the p-version finite element code, for the cantilever boundary condition. The paper also presents the bounds on the location of the internal node, for a valid mass and stiffness variation, for any given boundary condition. The derived property variations, corresponding to a given mode shape and boundary condition, also provides a simple closed-form solution for a class of non-uniform Euler-Bernoulli beams. These closed-form solutions can also be used to check optimization algorithms proposed for modal tailoring.

  • An analytical study on performance evaluation of superdetonative mode ram accelerator was conducted for understanding the experimental result. The quasi-one dimensional continuum, momentum, energy equations were solved under the assumption of inviscid flow. It would be noticeable that experimental result could be analytically simulated with the assumptions of inlet shockwave, temperature dependent specific heat, and additional aluminum combustion due to ablation of aluminum projectile in superdetonative operation mode. The acceleration of ram accelerator was comparable to experimental result with the consideration of the additional aluminum combustion energy by ablation of projectile. As result, the experimental result with the aluminum projectile could be affected by heat of aluminum.

  • Triple-tower double-cable suspension bridges have increased confinement stiffness imposed by the main cable on the middle tower, which has bright application prospects. However, vertical bending and torsional vibrations of the double-cable and the girder are coupled in such bridges due to the hangers. In particular, the bending vibration of the towers in the longitudinal direction and torsional vibrations about the vertical axis influence the vertical bending and torsional vibrations of the stiffening girders, respectively. The conventional analytical algorithm for assessing the dynamic features of the suspension bridge is not directly applicable to this type of bridge. This study attempts to mitigate this problem by introducing an analytical algorithm for solving the triple-tower double-cable suspension bridge's natural frequencies and mode shapes. D'Alembert's principle is employed to construct the differential equations of the vertical bending and torsional vibrations of the stiffening girder continuum in each span. Vibrations of stiffening girders in each span are interrelated via the vibrations of the main cables and the bridge towers. On this basis, the natural frequencies and mode shapes are derived by separating variables. The proposed algorithm is then applied to an engineering example. The natural frequencies and mode shapes of vertical bending and torsional vibrations derived by the analytical algorithm agreed well with calculations via the finite element method. The fundamental frequency of vertical bending and first- and second-order torsion frequencies of double-cable suspension bridges are much higher than those of single-cable suspension bridges. The analytical algorithm has high computational efficiency and calculation accuracy, which can provide a reference for selecting appropriate structural parameters to meet the requirements of dynamics during the preliminary design.

  • Analytical methods of thromboxane $B_2(TXB_2)$ using various techniques of Fast Atom Bombardment mass spectrometry (FAB MS) were studied, static FAB condition was investigated to obtain linear response curve using docosanoic acid as a internal standard. For maximum sensitivity, a continuos-flow(CF-) FAB MS by selected-ion monitoring(SIM) with devised sample introduction system, has been developed to quantiate thromboxane $B_2$ in biological sample. Instrumental parameters affecting sensitivity, reproducibility has been studied. The method has been optimized with respect to the eluent, 0.75% glycerol(in EtOH v/v) and flow rate of $3.7{\mu}l/min.$ Under the condition, detection limits were below 10pg in SIM mode and a good linear relationship between dose and response was achieved.
