  • The vibration on building structures due to exciting vibration forces has been studied only for the vibration level on existing buildings. Recently, several researches have been performed on the prediction of vertical vibration on structures by using an analytical method. However, these studies have been focused on mainly the vibration analysis through analytical modeling of structures. This study aims to investigate the characteristics of vertical vibration transfer in terms of the directions of transfer(upward transfer and downward transfer) on the shear wall building structures due to 2 type vibration forces. In order to examine the characteristics of vertical vibration transfer, the mode analysis and the impact experiment were conducted several times on one building structure. The results of this study suggest that the characteristics of vertical vibration transfer are different in terms of the directions of transfer.

  • The influence of magnetic saturation on electromagnetic field distribution in both a permanent-magnet direct-current (PMDC) motor and a field-winding (wound-field) direct-current (FWDC) motor, with the same output mechanical power, has been studied. In this paper, an approximate analytical method and time-stepping Finite Element Method (FEM) are used for prediction of Back-EMF and electromagnetic torque. No-load and rotor-lucked conditions, according to experimental measurements, and the FEM and analytical method studies of the motors have been considered. A sensitivity analysis has also been successfully accomplished on the major design parameters that affect motor performance. At last, these two DC motors are compared, in spite of their differences, on the basis of measured output characteristics.

  • Nowadays, the pushover analysis technique is becoming a very useful tool for the prediction of inelastic behavior of structures in the seismic evaluation of existing buildings in the worldwide. However, the reliability of this analysis method has not been fully checked by the test results. The objective of this study is to verify the correlation between the experimental and analytical response of a high-rise nonseismic reinforced concrete frame using DRAIN-2DX program and the test results performed previously. This study concludes that the overall responses such as story-shear versus story-drift can be predicted with quite high reliability while the local deformations such as plastic rotations in the ends of critical members can not be described reasonably.

  • Leakage characteristics of two labyrinth seals with different configurations (straight vs stepped) were investigated. Leakage flows were predicted by computational fluid dynamics (CFD) for the two configurations and compared with test data. A semi-analytical leakage prediction tool was also tried to predict the leakage. It was confirmed that the CFD gives quite good agreements with test data. The analytical tool also yielded similar leakage behaviors with test results, but the overall agreement with test data was not as good as that of the CFD. The effect of flow direction in the stepped seal on leakage flow was examined. The dependence of leakage performance, in terms of flow function, on the seal clearance size was investigated. Flow function decreased with decreasing clearance in the straight seal, while the trend was reversed in the stepped seal.

  • An analytical study is presented on the hydroelastic vibration of two rectangular identical plates coupled with a bounded fluid by using the finite Fourier series expansion method. It is observed that the two contrastive modes, the so called the out-of-phase and in-phase modes appear. The proposed analytical method is verified by observing a good agreement to three dimensional finite element analysis results. All natural frequency of the in-phase modes can be predicted well by the combination of the dry beam modes. The theoretical prediction for the out-of-phase mode can be improved by using the polynomial functions satisfying the plate boundary conditions and fluid volume conservation instead of using dry beam modes.

  • This paper reviews depositional environments, consolidation characteristic of marine deposits along the Nam-Yang river mouth and then analytical solution of self-weight consolidation is made to find consolidated state. This area has been deposited through the short geological age(22year). It's deposition rate is as high as 70cm/year and the height of deposition may be $3{\sim}12m$. It's known that this area is in the under-consolidated state from OCR and analytical solution. It is conclude that the under-consolidated state should be considered in prediction of consolidation settlement.

  • A series of experimental results on thin mild steel plates clamped at the boundary subjected to gas detonation shock loading are presented. Detonation occurred by mixing Acetylene (C2H2)-Oxygen (O2) in various volume ratio and different initial pressure. The applied impulse is varied to give deformation in the range from 6 mm to 35 mm. Analytical modeling using energy method was also performed. Dependent material properties, as well as strain rate sensitivity, are included in the theoretical modeling. Prediction values for midpoint deflections are compared with experimental data. The analytical predictions have good agreement with experimental values. Moreover, it has been shown that the obtained model has much less error compared with those previously proposed in the literature.

  • This paper presents an analytical study that can predict the path-dependent forming limits for bilinear strain paths. To predict the forming limit diagrams(FLD), the analytical procedure was performed within the framework of Marciniak and Kuczynski approach by introducing the effect of the existence of strain gradient over the stretching punch. The predicted path-dependent forming limits of an anisotropic sheet were compared with the published experimental results. It was found that the predicted path-dependent forming limits were in good agreement with the experimental data.

  • This paper reviews depositional environments and consolidation characteristic of Soft Dredged Clay fill and then analytical solution of self-weight consolidation is made to find consolidated state. It's known that Soft Dredged Clay Ground is in the under-consolidated state under $U{\fallingdotseq}30%$ from analytical solution. It is effective for higher consolidation rate that the time of Dredge is shorter ani the time of leave is longer. It is conclude that the under-consolidated state should be considered in prediction of consolidation settlement.
