  • The aim of this study was to grasp the seriousness of depression problems in medical students by examining the research trends among them and to present desirable direction of the future study. A selective search has been conducted for literature published in Nurimedia (DBPIA), Korean studies Information Service System (KISS), Research Information Sharing Service (RISS), National Assembly Library (NANET) and National Digital Science Library (NDSL) databases. 18 papers have been selected for the final analysis. The results showed that studies on depression problems were published in very small proportion which researchers with diverse majors including psychiatry participated. Second, most of depression assessment tools usually measured depression only while some did various psychological symptoms. Third, independent t test was the most frequent analytic method. Last but not least, there was no research dealing with intervention about depression in medical students. To sum up, though numerous researchers with diverse specialties participated in the depression study and analyzed the data using various analyses and variables, there is a lack of intervention for depression of the medical students. Therefore, it is necessary to emphasize the necessity of practical intervention based on the evidence-based practice.

  • Defense R&D is a key process for securing weapons systems determined by mid- and long-term needs to cope with changing future battlefield environments. In particular, the test and evaluation provides information necessary to determine whether or not to switch to mass production as the last gateway to research and development of weapons systems and plays an important role in ensuring performance linked to the life cycle of weapons systems. Meanwhile, if you look at the recent changes in the operational environment of the Korean Peninsula and the defense acquisition environment, you can see three main characteristics. First of all, continuous safety accidents occurred during the operation of the weapon system, which increased social interest in the safety of combatants, and the efficient execution of the limited defense budget is required as acquisition costs increase. In addition, strategic approaches are needed to respond to future battlefield environments such as robots, autonomous weapons systems (RAS), and cyber security test and evaluation. Therefore, in this study, we would like to present strategies for improving the testing and evaluation of weapons systems by considering the characteristics of the security environment that has changed recently. To this end, the improvement strategy was derived by analyzing the complementary elements of the current weapon system operational test and evaluation system in a multi-dimensional model and prioritized through the hierarchical analysis method (AHP).

  • Purpose: The main purpose of this study is to develop an evaluation system using the weighted-values of various users and experts for the public space to apply Universal Design, and additionally to find out the commonalities and differences by comparing the importance of evaluation indicators between users and expert groups. Method: A one-sample t-test was conducted to verify that the components of the public space to universal design application are suitable as evaluation indicators, and AHP(analytic hierarchy process) was performed to derive weight-values for the evaluation system. Results: The importance-values for the total 23 facilities to be used as evaluation indicators were derived by multiplying the weighted-values of each sector, domain, and facility by the disabled, non-disabled, and experts. To summarize the results of overall importance-values derived from the AHP, The disabled showed high-rank weighted-values in facilities of building sector > park & recreation sector > cross domain and low-rank weighted-values for sidewalk and roadway domain. The non-disabled showed high-rank weighted-values in facilities of park & recreation sector > roadway domain > building sector > cross domain and low-rank weighted-values for sidewalk domain. Experts mainly showed high-rank weighted-values in the cross domain and in facilities related to entry and movement to the target space in all sectors and domains. However, it showed moderate importance-values in the sanitary space. The disabled who are restricted to movement have a high demand for universal design in buildings consisting of vertical moving line, and non-disabled people who are not limited to physical movement have a high demand for universal design in parks and recreation sector for increased leisure time. It means that experts are important to recognize the principles of making space because they value cross domain and the key spaces and facilities for suitable the purpose of use. In addition, it can be inferred that non-disabled people have a higher demand for safety than disabled people due to their high importance in roadway domain and facilities of safety and disaster prevention. Implications: The significance of this study is the establishment of a quantitative universal design evaluation system for public spaces considering the different perspectives of the disabled and the non-disabled.

  • In drafting the standards on changes in current conditions, the height or the number of stories is applied in a restrictive manner by limiting to securing the distance to vertical surface for cultural properties within the influence investigation area, but this is expected to have a negative impact on the surrounding sceneries as well as results in the dwarfing phenomenon for precious cultural properties. That is, the preparation for supplementing the insufficient objectivity that is likely to take place during the process of drafting the standards on changes in current conditions. Thus the author attempts to suggest the analytic method for the decision making related to objective and reasonable determination and regulation of the changes in current conditions through computer based simulation work that considers the cultural properties and surrounding environments under investigation. In order to achieve such research objectives, the author reviewed the subject sites where the cultural property dwarfing phenomenon was expected to occur in case of the permission for the changes in current conditions or where the impact of natural landscape and natural feature on the earth is less than architectural building or artificial structure or where the new policy program is likely to be adopted due to incomplete establishment of current condition change standard within influence investigation area, among other cultural properties with architectural building or artificial structure nearby located in Cheonan city and then selected Cheonansaji Dangganjiju(flag poles) and Jiksanhyun Gwana(government office). The author then undertook the quantitative visibility analysis in order to determine the comprehensive prospect rights for the cultural properties and surrounding environments concerned.

  • This study analyzed the use of visualization materials in "free inquiry" reports for scientifically-gifted elementary school students focusing on infographics. From 2017 to 2019, 78 students in grades 4~6 at a gifted science education institutes in Seoul were selected. The visualization materials in the reports (n=60) of "free inquiry" submitted by the students were analyzed from the viewpoint of using infographics. The analysis of the results showed that the visualization materials were mostly general illustrations, and infographics were very few. In addition, there were more cases of citing the existing infographics than the case of constructing the infographic. Looking at each stage of inquiry, general illustrations or infographics composed by the students appeared in 'inquiry method' or 'inquiry result' stage, but the existing infographics appeared in 'theoretical background' stage. Among the infographic types by 'expression type', 'structural type' and 'process type' were the most frequent and 'statistical type' or 'comparative/analytic type' was used frequently. Among the infographic types by 'construction level', 'simple reorganization', 'simple layout', and 'reorganization' appeared relatively more. Educational implications of these findings are discussed.

  • Purpose: The goal of this research is to create a numerical analytic database that may assist fire prevention managers and building officials in prioritizing items that need to be addressed in order to improve evacuation safety performance while working within a constrained budget and time frame. Method: It was carried out utilizing the CFD Tool, a quantitative evaluation approach, to assess evacuation safety. One direct staircase-type apartment houses and one corridor-type apartment were chosen to make it. Result: In the fire compartment category, Apartment A's evacuation time was around 130 percent longer than that of sprinkler facilities. Conclusion: Fire prevention managers and building officials feel that starting with a single level and implementing "dwelling unit separations" will increase evacuation safety, and that maintaining fire compartments and sprinkler systems at all times will be effective. Because of the limited characteristics of smoke propagation in corridor-type apartments compared to direct staircase-type flats, it is thought that fire extinguishing equipment should be addressed.

  • Since the signing of the Korea-Europe Free Trade Agreement, the volume of trade transactions between South Korea and Europe has increased. The traditional single-mode transport system has been transformed into an intermodal transport system using two or more modes of transport. In addition, the conventional sea and air transport routes have been restricted, leading to a decline in Korean exports to Europe, and the rail transport mode is becoming mainstream in the market due to the influence of COVID-19. This paper focuses on the China-Railway Express to explore a new intermodal transport route from Korea to Europe. First, the fuzzy analytic hierarchy process (AHP) is used to evaluate the factor weights when selecting intermodal transport routes from Korea to Europe. Then, the TOPSIS (Technique for Order of Preference by Similarity to Ideal Solution) method is used to rank three alternatives. The results show that among the four factors (total cost, total time, transportation capability, and service reliability), the total cost is the most significant factor, followed by the total time, service reliability, and transportation capability. Furthermore, the alternative route 1 (Incheon-Dalian-Manchuria-Hamburg) is preferred.

  • Purpose This paper aims to prepare a full operational readiness by establishing an optimal flight plan considering the weather conditions in order to effectively perform the mission and operation of military aircraft. This paper suggests a flight prediction model and rules by analyzing the correlation between flight implementation and cancellation according to weather conditions by using big data collected from historical flight information of military aircraft supplied by Korean manufacturers and meteorological information from the Korea Meteorological Administration. In addition, by deriving flight rules according to weather information, it was possible to discover an efficient flight schedule establishment method in consideration of weather information. Design/methodology/approach This study is an analytic study using data mining techniques based on flight historical data of 44,558 flights of military aircraft accumulated by the Republic of Korea Air Force for a total of 36 months from January 2013 to December 2015 and meteorological information provided by the Korea Meteorological Administration. Four steps were taken to develop optimal flight prediction models and to derive rules for flight implementation and cancellation. First, a total of 10 independent variables and one dependent variable were used to develop the optimal model for flight implementation according to weather condition. Second, optimal flight prediction models were derived using algorithms such as logistics regression, Adaboost, KNN, Random forest and LightGBM, which are data mining techniques. Third, we collected the opinions of military aircraft pilots who have more than 25 years experience and evaluated importance level about independent variables using Python heatmap to develop flight implementation and cancellation rules according to weather conditions. Finally, the decision tree model was constructed, and the flight rules were derived to see how the weather conditions at each airport affect the implementation and cancellation of the flight. Findings Based on historical flight information of military aircraft and weather information of flight zone. We developed flight prediction model using data mining techniques. As a result of optimal flight prediction model development for each airbase, it was confirmed that the LightGBM algorithm had the best prediction rate in terms of recall rate. Each flight rules were checked according to the weather condition, and it was confirmed that precipitation, humidity, and the total cloud had a significant effect on flight cancellation. Whereas, the effect of visibility was found to be relatively insignificant. When a flight schedule was established, the rules will provide some insight to decide flight training more systematically and effectively.

  • The Republic of Korea Army (ROK Army) is trying to improve the effectiveness of education and training. On the other hand, there are many restrictions in actual training, limiting their practical education and training. Virtual reality technology is being used to overcome these limitations. Virtual reality technology is developing in various types, and the ROK Army needs to introduce a virtual reality training system for cost-effective education. The ROK Army mainly uses high-cost simulator-types that are similar to real equipment. Recently, a low-cost immersive-type virtual reality training system wearing an HMD is also being used. This study analyzed the cost education effectiveness of simulator-type and immersive-type virtual reality training systems in operation at the ROK Army air defense school. First, the research method used AHP to analyze the educational effects. Second, the cost was applied to the production cost of the virtual reality training system to analyze the cost-effectiveness of the education. The immersion-type was 3.4 times higher than the simulator-type in terms of cost effectiveness. These results can be used as basic data for analyzing the cost-effectiveness of a virtual reality training system.

  • Nuts are cholesterol free with high poly-unsaturated fatty acids(PUFA) and have lower intakes of sodium than non-consumers, and thus they can decrease blood pressure. Hypertension is a common primary diagnosis in Korea. Because of extending exposure to 24-hour raised blood pressure and heart rate hypertension is likely to be caused by prolonged short sleep durations. This study examined the relationship between nut consumption and hypertension according to sleep duration among Korean adult. Based on data from the 2010-2016 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey(KNHANES), the final analytic sample(n=25,359) was used for current analysis. The dietary intake was assessed through a 24-hour recall method. Associations of nut consumption with sleep duration and hypertension were determined using multiple logistic regression with odds ratio(95% CI). All the analyses were carried out in SAS version 9.4, and the significance level was set at p<0.05. With increasing nut intake, the prevalence of hypertension significantly decreased(p for trend=0.02). After controlling for sleep duration, the nut consumption showed significant association with the prevalence of hypertension when sleep duration was 6 to 6.9 h per day(p for trend=0.03) or 7 to 7.9 h per day(p for trend=0.03). In conclusion, dietary total nut intake was found to be significantly associated with the prevalence of hypertension.
