  • The self-report measure is a useful tool for evaluating self-recognized disability and difficulty in daily living activities. Although many studies and clinics used the Neck Pain and Disability Scale (NPDS) for measuring neck pain and functional impairment, there has not been much adaptation of this for use with Korean patients. The purpose of this study was to establish the reliability and validity of NPDS among Korean neck pain patients. Fifty-five subjects (32 males, 23 females) with neck pain enrolled in this study. They completed standardized self-administered questionnaires. The NPDS measures pain intensity; its interference with vocational, emotional, recreational, social, and functional aspects of living; and the presence and extent of associated factors. Reliability was determined by the intraclass correlation coefficient (ICC) and Cronbach's alpha for internal consistency. Validity was examined by correlating the NPDS scores to the Visual Analog Scale (VAS) score. The test-retest reliability of the translated versions of the NPDS was good ICC (2,1)=.86 (95%CI .76~.92). Cronbach's alpha value for NPDS was found to be .93, and this was statistically significant (p<.05). The criterion-related validity coefficient was .79 (p<.Oll. We conclude that the Korean version of NPDS has been shown to be a reliable and valid instrument for the assessment of neck pain. Successful linguistic and cultural translation will admit appropriate cross-cultural comparison for clinical analysis. Therefore, this study can be expected to be used as an adequate evaluation scale for neck pain related studies and treatments.

  • We developed embedded inductors in MCM-D substrate for RF applications. The increasing demand for high density packaging was the driving forces to the development of MCM-D technology. Most of these development efforts have been focused on high performance digital circuits. However, recently there is a great need fur mixed mode circuits with a combination of digital, analog and microwave devices. Mixed mode modules often have a large number of passive components that are connected to a small number of active devices. Integration of passive components into the high density MCM substrate becomes desirable to further reduce cost, size, and weight of electronic systems while improving their performance and reliability. The proposed MCM-D substrate was based on Cu/photosensitive BCB multilayer and Ti/Cu is used to form the interconnect layer. Seed metal was formed with 1000 $\AA$ Ti/3000 $\AA$ Cu by sputtering method and main metal was formed with 3 $\mu\textrm{m}$ Cu by electrical plating method. The multi-turn sprial inductors were designed in coplanar fashion. This paper describe the manufacturing process of integrated inductors in MCM-D substrate and the results of electrical performance test.

  • Purpose: We sought to examine whether using the rhythmic stabilization (RS) technique before proprioceptive neuromuscular facilitation (PNF) wrist taping affected pain and grip strength in patients with wrist pain to provide a basis for the application of PNF taping. Methods: The study consisted of 41 badminton enthusiasts (aged 20-40 years) who reported discomfort and pain due to overuse of their wrists. The subjects were randomly assigned to an experimental group (n=20) or a control group (n=21). In the experimental group, PNF wrist taping was applied after application of the PNF RS technique, and PNF wrist taping was applied after stretching in the control group. The tape was applied five times a week for 3 weeks. Pain was measured using the visual analog scale (VAS). Grip strength was measured using a dynamometer. The paired t-test was performed to compare grip strength and pain within the groups before and after the intervention. Covariance analysis was conducted to compare differences between the experimental group and control group. The level of significance was set as ${\alpha}=0.05$. Results: Within-group changes in grip strength and VAS were significantly different in the control group and experimental group (p<0.01). Grip strength and VAS showed more improvement in the experimental group than in the control group (p<0.01). Conclusion: PNF wrist taping after stretching and the PNF RS technique both significantly reduced pain and improved grip strength in club badminton players with wrist pain. These improvements were significantly greater in the experimental group in which the PNF RS technique was applied. The results suggest that PNF may be considered useful to improve grip strength and reduce wrist pain.

  • Previous studies suggested that the inhibition of thyroxine ($T_4$) release by ${\alpha}_1$-adrenoceptor and muscarinic receptor stimulation results in activated protein kinase C (PKC) from mouse and guinea pig thyroids. In the present study, the effect of carbachol, methoxamine, phorbol myristate acetate (PMA), and R59022 on the release of $T_4$ from the mouse, rat, and guinea pig thyroids was compared to clarify the role of PKC in the regulation of the release of $T_4$. The thyroids were incubated in the medium containing the test agents, samples of the medium were assayed for $T_4$ by EIA kits. Forskolin, an adenylate cyclase activator, chlorophenylthio-cAMP sodium, a membrane permeable analog of cAMP, and isobutyl-methylxanthine, a phosphodiesterase inhibitor, like TSH (thyroid stimulating hormone), enhaced the release of $T_4$ from the mouse, rat, and guinea pig thyroids. Methoxamine, an ${\alpha}_1$-adrenoceptor agonist, inhibited the TSH-stimulated release of $T_4$ in mouse, but not rat and guinea pig thyroids. In contrast, carbachol, a muscarinic receptor agonist, inhibited the release of $T_4$ in guinea pig, but not mouse and rat thyroids. These inhibition were reversed by prazosin, an ${\alpha}_1$-adrenoceptor antagonist or atropine, a muscarinic antagonist or $M_1$- and $M_3$-muscarinic antagonists, in mouse or guinea pig thyroids. In addition, staurosporine, a PKC inhibitor, reversed methoxamine or carbachol inhibition of TSH stimulation. Furthermore, PMA, a PKC activator, and R59022, a diacylglycerol (DAG) kinase inhibitor, inhibited the TSH-stimulated release of $T_4$ in mouse, rat, and guinea pig thyroids. These inhibition were blocked by staurosporine. These findings suggest that the activation of receptor or DAG inhibits TSH-stimulated $T_4$ release through a PKC-dependent mechanism in thyroid gland.

  • This paper describes the design of new method of propagation delay measurement in micro and nanostructures during characterization of ASIC standard library cell. Providing more accuracy timing information about library cell (NOR, AND, XOR, etc.) to the design team we can improve a quality of timing analysis inside of ASIC design flow process. Also, this information could be very useful for semiconductor foundry team to make correction in technology process. By comparison of the propagation delay in the CMOS element and result of analog SPICE simulation, we can make assumptions about accuracy and quality of the transistor's parameters. Physical implementation of phase error accumulation method(PHEAM) can be easy integrated at the same chip as close as possible to the device under test(DUT). It was implemented as digital IP core for semiconductor manufacturing process($0.11{\mu}m$, GL130SB). Specialized method helps to observe the propagation time delay in one element of the standard-cell library with up-to picoseconds accuracy and less. Thus, the special useful solutions for VLSI schematic-to-parameters extraction (STPE), basic cell layout verification, design simulation and verification are announced.

  • Background: Recently, there has been an emphasis on the use of interventions with biofeedback information for the maintenance or correction of posture. Objects: This study assessed the change of trunk posture and trunk muscle activation when people exhibiting postural kyphosis performed visual display terminal work with or without a contact feedback device (CFD). Methods: Eighteen right-handed individuals were recruited. Thoracic angle and right thoracic erector spinae (TES) muscle amplitude were analyzed. There were two sessions in these experiments. The control session involved 16 minutes of typing without a CFD, and the CFD session involved 16 minutes of typing with a CFD. The visual analog scale score was analyzed with a paired t-test, and the kinematic and electromyography data were analyzed through two-way repeated analysis of variance. Results: The paired t-tests revealed that subjects had significantly less pain after the CFD sessions than after the control sessions (p<.05). Significant main effects by session and by time were observed in the thoracic kyphosis angle (p<.05). There was a significant session${\times}$time interaction for TES amplitude (p<.05), along with significant main effects by session and by time (p<.05). Conclusion: The CFD caused people with postural kyphosis to straighten and to activate their TES continuously, even though they were habituated to bend their bodies forward. Therefore, the CFD was a beneficial treatment tool.

  • Recently, as the demand of the environmental-friendly energy storage system such as an electric double-layer condenser increases, that of the bidirectional charger/discharger for the systems also increases. However, when charging/discharging mode-change occurs, the charger/discharger employing a bi-directional DC-DC converter with a commercialized analog controller has a complex circuit scheme, and a poor transient response. On the other hand, if a single digital controller is used for the bi-directional mode, the system performances can be improved by application of an advanced power-processing algorithm. In the paper, an environmental-friendly power storage systems including an Electric Double Layer Capacitor(EDLC) banks were developed with a bi-directional buck-boost converter and a digital signal processor (TMS320F28335). A simulation test-bed was realized and tested by MATLAB Simulink, and the hardware experiment was performed which shows that the dynamic response was improved such as the simulation results.

  • Several VHF bands for the use in analog communications has been changed to those for the use in new maritime digital communications by WRC-12. ITU-R M. 1842-1 has been also standardized, recommending the characteristics of maritime digital communication systems. In addition, a Shipborne Ad-hoc Network (SANET) has been introduced by IMO in order to provide ships, which cannot be connected to a shore directly, with maritime digital data exchange services with the help of ad-hoc communication. In this paper, several functionalities of the SANET, including channel access, route determination to a shore, and data exchange, are verified via sea trials. It is expected that the SANET can be applicable to collecting and analyzing maritime information, facilitating the entry and departure of vessels, and the communication infrastructure of e-navigation.

  • Reliable wireless transmission of data generated by the flight critical subsystems or mission equipments of the unmanned aerial system is critical for mission success. As the UAS system becomes more sophisticated, its dependency on a reliable high rate radio communication system also increases. This requirement is applied not only during the operation phase but also in the early development test phase. This paper introduces a practical cost-effective communication system for a UAS. The downlink module combines analog NTSC video signal with onboard data, and send them using 2.4 GHz carrier wave. The uplink system has less a severe requirement on the bandwidth, and thus uses 430 MHz signal. This paper also presents a sample packet structure which can be adopted for many UAS of similar class.
