Carcinosarcoma of gallbladder is a rare malignant tumor characterized by malignant epithelial and malignant mesenchymal components. Its pathogenesis is unknown and most of carcinosarcomas of gallbladder are associated with poor survival because the disease presents at an advanced stage. A 69-year-old man presented with right upper quadrant pain. The preoperative diagnosis was gallbladder cancer, and thus, curative radical cholecystectomy was performed. Pathologic examination of the surgical specimen revealed that the tumor was composed of carcinomatous components with adenocarcinoma and squamous cell carcinoma, and sarcomatous components with spindle cell sarcoma and chondrosarcoma, which was consistent with a diagnosis of primary carcinosarcoma of the gallbladder. The tumor was found to extend to the pericholecystic fat and no metastasis in regional lymph nodes.

An 8-year-old, castrated male, Schnauzer dog was presented for evaluation of gradually worsening erythematous papules. Physical examination revealed multiple erythematous papules having a firm, gritty texture located in bilateral ears, dorsal midline, perianal and inguinal area. Skin biopsy revealed aberrant structure, characterized by atrophic epidermal-dermal layer structure with granular materials which was presumed as calcinosis cutis secondary to iatrognic hyperadrenocotricism. By initiating minocycline for 14 days, there was reduction in size, number of calcium deposit with remarkably decreased erythema. This case report presents the clinical trial of minocycline as a potential agent in treating dogs with calcinosis cutis.

경상북도 상주시에 서식하는 감나무 주변의 부엽토로부터 국내에 아직 기록되지 않은 진균을 분리하였다. 형태학적 및 계통학적 분석을 통해 분리한 균의 동정을 실시하였으며, 분석 결과 해당 균은 Phialophora sessilis로 확인되었다. 본 연구를 통해 P. sessilis가 국내에 존재함을 최초로 보고하였다.

In an ongoing survey of Korean indigenous fungi, three fungal strains belonging to the Sordariomycetes were isolated from soil samples. These strains were designated KNU16-001, KNU16-002, and KNU16-009, and identified as Ambrosiella grosmanniae, Acremonium sclerotigenum, and Trichocladium asperum, respectively, based on morphological characterization and phylogenetic analysis using internal transcribed spacer region sequences of ribosomal DNA. This is the first report of these species in Korea.

Agmatine, an amine and organic cation, reduced $H_2O_2$ that was generated by hyperglycemia, and transcription factors such as NF-${\kappa}B$ and AP-1 activity in the mesangial cells that were exposed to high glucose. However, spermine which shares a strong nucleophilic structure with agmatine decreased the $H_2O_2$ levels and AP-1, but not the NF-${\kappa}B$ activity. Possible roles for agmatine and spermine in decreasing fibronectin are discussed, and the signaling pathway for agmatine-reduced fibronectin accumulation is presented.

본 논문에서는 통섭적 교육활동의 도구서로 로봇의 가치에 중점을 두고 교실 수업에서 로봇을 활용하는 방안을 다룬다. 통섭적 교육활동은 학생들이 여려 교과 주제의 관계 안에서 직관적으로 원리와 필요성을 받아들이고 이해하는 기회를 제공하며, 특정 교과 영역에 관심이 편향된 학생들에게는 부속한 영역을 자연스럽게 보완하는 활동을 유도하여 균형을 회복시킬 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 몇 가지 교육활동 예시를 통해 정규 수업에서 교육용 로봇의 새로운 활용방안을 제안한다.

In this paper, a unified design environment is developed for the optimization of electric machines based on continuum sensitivity. For electromagnetic (EM) system analysis, COMSOL scripting environment is used. Optimization module is developed by MATLAB programming, which can be combined with COMSOL script commands. The modules are combined into one MATLAB project, and iteration process necessary for the optimization of EM system can be performed efficiently. During the design process, visual feedback of the current design status is given to the designer. In addition, the B-Spline parametrization of the nodal points is implemented to obtain smooth boundary of the device. The developed software is applied to the problem of finding uniform flux density distribution at the air gap of an electromagnet to verify its feasibility and effectiveness.

Hsp90 is a good drug target molecule that is involved in regulating various signaling pathway in normal cell and the role of Hsp90 is highly emphasized especially in cancer cells. Thus, much efforts for discovery and development of Hsp90 inhibitor have been continued and a few Hsp90 inhibitors targeting the N-terminal ATP binding site are being tested in the clinical trials. There are no metabolic signature molecules that can be used to evaluate the effect of Hsp90 inhibition. We previously found a potential C-domain binder named PPC1 that is a synthetic small molecule. Here we report the metabolomics study to find signature metabolites upon treatment of PPC1 compound in lung cancer cell line, A549 and discuss the potentiality of metabolomic approach for evaluation of hit compounds.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the production of English vowels by native speakers of Korean. In the production test, two English speakers and four native Korean speakers served as subjects. The four native Korean speakers were divided into two groups, experienced and inexperienced. Native English speakers generally showed significant differences both in vowel duration and in F1 & F2 values between members of vowel pairs which are of special interest of this study: /i/l vs. /I/, /$\varepsilon$/ vs. /${\ae}$/, and /u/ vs. /$\mho$/. The overall results showed that the experienced group produced more accurate results in vowel duration, F1, and F2 values.

A torque control algorithm suitable for detecting an open circuit failure in which one of the three phases is unable to supply power to a motor in the permanent magnet synchronous motor is presented in this paper. When the failure occurs in the inverter, the output torque of motor is restricted. A new method which is implemented by using only a processor algorithm internally without any hardware redundancy circuit is proposed. A simulation and experimental study is carried out with a three phase inverter system to show the validity of the proposed method.
