  • This paper presents an experimental study of the effect of rolling speed and surface roughness on the mixed elastohydrodynamic (EHD) lubrication characteristics for point contact formed between a real, random, rough surface, steel ball and smooth glass disc. The Thin Film Colorimetic Interferometry measurement technique has been extended to give detailed information about in-contact deformation of the microgeometry. It has enabled to derive the amplitude reduction curve that shows progressive recovering of ball roughness features with increasing speed.

  • The purpose of this research was to obtain fatigue property of pavement concrete by flexural fatigue test. The size of specimen used in fatigue tests was 10$\times$10$\times$46cm. The specimens of pavement concrete were fabricated using the concrete at job site. The fatigue tests were performed by applying into a constant amplitude loading. The flexural fatigue tests were performed by stress levels of 90%, 80%, 70% and 60%, and stress ratio of 0.1. From this research, the S-N relationship, S-N-P relationship were derived and Weibull probability density functions was plotted using the distribution parameters.

  • This research is related to nonlinear stability analysis of advanced microbeams reinforced by Graphene Platelets (GPLs) considering generic geometrical imperfections and thermal loading effect. Uniform, linear and nonlinear distributions of GPLs in transverse direction have been considered. Imperfection sensitivity of post-bucking behaviors of the microbeam to different kinds of geometric imperfections have been examined. Geometric imperfection is first considered to be identical as the first buckling mode, then a generic function is employed to consider sine-type, local-type and global-type imperfectness. Modified couple stress theory is adopted to incorporate size-dependent behaviors of the beam at micro scale. The post-buckling problem is solved analytically to derive load-amplitude curves. It is shown that post-buckling behavior of microbeam is dependent on the type geometric imperfection and its magnitude. Also, post-buckling load can be enhanced by adding more GPLs or selecting a suitable distribution for GPLs.

  • This paper, we propose a new high noise immunity phase-locked loop(PLL) which can suppress the high incident noise coupling with large amplitude and long period to the input frequency of PLL and keeps constant frequency and phase of the VCO output for providing the high stability distribution clock pulse.

  • A theoretical model has been developed to analyze the jet-edge interaction and the sound radiation. The edge responding to the sinuous impinging jet is regarded as an array of dipoles and their strength is determined by the boundary condition on the edge surface. The surface pressure distribution and the edgeforce are estimated using these dipoles. Then the pressure amplitude and directivity of the sound field is obtained by summing the radiating sounds from the dipole sources. It is found that the effective source is located a little distance downstream from the edge tip. And the directivity of the sound radiation is cardioid pattern near the edge but dipole pattern far from the edge. The theoretical model is confirmed by comparing the theoretical prediction of the edgeforce and sound pressure level with available experimental data.

  • In this paper, we made CGH patterns that had continuous amplitude distribution binary coded patterns with two different methods, and analyzed those patterns by using LCSLM (liquid crystal spatial light modulator). The error diffusion algorithm and direct quantization method were used as the binarization methods. The parameters of overall average brightness, mean square error, and diffraction efficiency were used in the comparison of reconstruction characteristics. The LCSLM which we used in this experiment was a binary reflective ferroelectric liquid crystal spatial light modulator addressed electrically with 256$\times$256 pixels, 87% fill factor and 15$\mu$m pixel pitch.

  • The changes of interfacial properties and microfailure degradation mechanisms of bioabsorbable composites with hydrolysis were investigated using micromechanical test and acoustic emission (AE). As hydrolysis time increased, the tensile strength, the modulus and the elongation of PEA and bioactive glass fibers decreased, whereas those of chitosan fiber changed little. Interfacial shear strength (IFSS) of bioactive glass fiber/poly-L-lactide (PLLA) composite was significantly higher than that two other systems. The decreasing rate of IFSS was the fastest in bioactive glass fiber/PLLA composite, whereas that of chitosan fiber/PLLA composite was the slowest. With increasing hydrolysis time, distribution of AE amplitude was narrow, and AE energy decreased gradually.

  • The goat of this paper is to study on variance estimation - Rice variance estimation, Gasser, Sroka and Jennen-Steinmetz's varince estimation - in smoothing goodness-of-fit tests. The comparisons of powers on test statistics are conducted by the change of variance, the number of oscillations, the amplitude of the alternative sample distribution.

  • The adaptive symbol selection scheme(ASSS) is popular in reducing peak to average power ratio(PAPR) for orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM) signals. The probability density function(pdf) of the samples' amplitudes of the adaptively selected OFDM signal without over-sampling has been considered to be approximately equal to the Rayleigh pdf. In this paper, we derive a more precise pdf which shows the relationship between the probability distribution of the samples' amplitudes and the number of the candidate symbols for ASSS. Using the newly derived pdf in the theoretical analysis, more accurate calculation results can be obtained.

  • This study is to investigate a fracture characteristics of carbon fiber reinforced plastics (CFRP) under the tensile loading as a function of acoustic emission (AE) according to the frequency analysis (transient mode) and AE source location (location mode). It was found that the fracture mechanism of AE frequency analysis was a useful tool for the estimation of different type of fracture in CFRP, i.e., matrix(epoxy resin) cracking, delamitation and fiber breakage same as AE amplitude distribution.
