Purpose: This study was done to explore factors related to amount of service use for elders with long-term care needs. Methods: A descriptive-correlation design was used. The sample included 259 elders and their primary caregivers who had cared for the elders for at least 6 months. Data on long-term care need assessment, service use and interviews with primary caregivers were analyzed. Results: There was no significant relationship between the sociodemographic characteristics and the amount of services use. Amount of service use differed significantly by Long-term care classification. The mean scores for class 1, 2 and 3 were 22.68, 21.47 and 17.87 days respectively. Primary caregiver relationship with the elders and the number of family-friend helpers were also significant. Multivariate regression analysis showed that gender, marital status, activities of daily living, cognitive impairment, and secondary caregiver support explained 17% of the total variance of service use among these elders (F=3.50, p<.001). Conclusion: The results of this study indicate that critical factors including secondary caregiver support and individual background, and other functional dependencies except for physical function should be considered in accurately predicting the amount of service use for community dwelling elders with long-term care needs.
The purposes of this study were to explore amount of time use for paid work house work, child caring and leisure spent by adults and to explain its influencing factors. Tobit model was used to analyze the factors of time use because the amount of time use was a limited continuous variable. Amount of time spent for house work was found to be 19min. for men and 155 min. for women. Amount of time spent for child caring was found to be 5min. for men and 40 min. for women. Amount of time spent for leisure was found to be 285 min. for men and 266 min. for women. 2) Time use for paid work was found to be significantly influenced by householder, age, time limit and paid worker for men and householder, time limit and paid worker for women. Time use for house work was found to be significantly influenced by age, time limit and paid worker for men and householder, age, marital status and paid worker for women. Time use for child caring was found to be significantly influenced by presence of kids and marital status for men and house, presence of kids, marital status and paid worker for women. Finally, Time use for leisure was found to be significantly influenced by car, time limit and paid worker for men and house, presence of kids, marital status, time limit and paid worker for women.
Background: World Health Organization considers opioid analgesic use as an important measure in the treatment of pain relief. However, there are limited data about the pattern of opioid analgesic use in tertiary care hospitals in Korea. The aim of this study was to describe the trends in the prescribed amount of the opioid for 13 years from 2000 to 2012 in a single tertiary care hospital. Methods: The data from the prescribed amount of opioid use in patients aged over 18 years were retrieved from medical charts and longitudinal pharmacy records of Seoul National University Hospital. Yearly prescribed amount of opioids were calculated using defined daily dose adjusted by hospital stay (DDD/1000${\bullet}$HS). Results: Over the 13 years of the study period, overall use of opioid has increased by 64.1%. Although, the opioid use by hospitalized patients comprised 98%~99% of total amount of opioid use, the proportions of opioid use by outpatient and by cancer patient increased from 1.1% to 2.2% and from 60.5% to 69.3%, respectively. The use of non-injectable opioids has increased by 47% and that of injectables has increased by 70%. While the amount of codeine and morphine use has decreased, the use of both transdermal and injection formulation of fentanyl has increased dramatically. Also, the use of oxycodone has increased, especially in outpatient setting. Conclusion: This longitudinal study showed that opioid analgesic use in tertiary hospital, especially in outpatient is continuously increasing. Improvement in pain management in tertiary care hospital can be cautiously inferred based on this results.
PURPOSES : This study evaluates the reasonableness of the recommended amount of deicing chemicals based on historical data for snow removal. The result can be used to aid decision-making for the reservation of cost-effective de-icing chemicals. METHODS : First, the recommended amount of de-icing chemical to use and historical usage data were evaluated to identify specific usage characteristics for each region. Road maintenance length and snow-removal working days were analyzed over the past five winter seasons. Next, differences in the recommended amount of chemical to use and actual use were compared using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test. Last, the two types of data were analyzed using a chi-square test to verify if the two distributions of variation pattern are statistically significant. We found that there are significant differences between the data from each region during the past five winter seasons. RESULTS : The results showed that the equation for calculating the amount of de-icing chemical to use appears to be revised. CONCLUSIONS : The results imply that the equation for calculating the amount of de-icing chemical to apply as a national standard is very important when the public agency makes decisions related to snow-removal.

Tobit model was used to analyze the factors of time use because amount of time use was a limited continuous variable. The results of this study were as follows: 1) Amount of time used for house work per day by adolescents was found to be 36min. for weekdays and 64 min. for holidays. Amount of time used for passive leisure per day by adolescents was found to be 203min. for weekdays and 375 min. for holidays. Amount of time used for active leisure per day by adolescents was found to be 74 min. for weekdays and 194 min. for holidays. Amount of time used for extracurricular lesson per day by adolescents was found to be 96min. for weekdays and 36 min. for holidays. 2) Time use for house work was found to be significantly influenced by education status, education level of mother, job status of mother for weekdays and gender, education level of mother, job status of mother, household income for holidays. Time use for passive leisure was found to be significantly influenced by education status, small children at home for weekdays and gender, education status for holidays. Time use for active leisure was found to be significantly influenced by gender, education status for holidays, while there was no influencing factors for weekdays. Finally, time use for extracurricular lesson was found to be significantly influenced by gender, education status, household income for weekdays, and age, education level of mother for holidays.
The variation of the urban water demand and the amount of water in the distribution reservoir was studied with time for a day. The city of Kwangju in Korea was selected as a study area. The population of Kwangju in the end of 1993 was more than one million and two hundred thousand peoples. The average of daily water use in 1993 was about three hundred and fifty thousand tons a day. One day was devided into 12 divisions with a 2 hour increment. The water use demand related to the amount of water in the distribution reservoir was observed for the given time interval of a day. The water use index was defind in percentage that indicates the ratio of the amount of water use for a time interval to the amount of water use for a day. The water use index with consideration of the water stored in the reservoir was found to be useful to manage and to operate the water supply systems in real time.
This study examined the effects of Dream Start participation on the use of after-school programs, considering its emphasis on the utilization of community resources. For this, it compared the use of after-school programs in terms of the number of types and the total amount of time between children who had been participating in Dream Start and those who had not. The main findings are as follows. First, when all other conditions were held constant, children in Dream Start used more types of after-school programs compared to their correspondents. Second, children in Dream Start were more likely to use two types of after-school programs over weekdays or three types of programs for several days a week compared to their correspondents. Third, children in Dream Start spent less amount of time in the after-school programs compared to their correspondents. Even though this study found the effectiveness of Dream Start as a facilitator of community resource utilization, future research needs to examine the effects of after-school program use in terms of its diversity and amount on the development of low-income children.
In this study, the effect of amount of use of mobile game (time of use, consumption cost) on the perceived satisfaction level (perceived enjoyment, service quality, and price) of game and commitment is to be observed. If the amount of game use is high, are the satisfaction level and commitment of game high as well? Is there any factor of negative effect on game commitment? As a result of study, among the mobile game use behaviors subjected in this study, higher the amount of use and consumption cost, more the level of satisfaction level and commitment on game. This study is to verify and analyze the high level of perceived satisfaction and commitment on mobile game by users with high amount of use to expand and to discuss the base of study of heavy mobile game user and heavy digital game user.
The purposes of this study were 1) to investigate parental amounts of Internet use for purpose of rearing 2) to investigate their environment and preparation level to use Internet as educational information source 3) to investigate whether there are differences between Korean and U.S. parents in environment, level of preparation, and amounts of use of Internet for purposes of child rearing 4) to find out the factors of use of Internet for purposes of child rearing. The questionnaire used in this survey included five sections : background, environment, preparation, amount of total Internet use, and amount of Internet use for purposes of child rearing. Participants were 282 parents (128 American; 154 Korean) with at least one 3~ to 7-year-old child. Findings revealed that parents used the Internet frequently, but they did not frequently use the Internet for purposes of child rearing. There were differences between Korean and U.S. parents in environment, level of preparation, and amount of Internet use for purposes of child rearing. The main factor that affected use of the Internet for purposes of child rearing was 'trustworthiness of Internet information'. Finally, it was suggested the implications for better Internet use for purpose of rearing from the findings.

Background: Spontaneous use of the upper extremities on the affected side of patients with stroke is a meaningful indicator of recovery and may vary by the age or dominant hand of patients. No prior study has reported changes in actual amount of use test (AAUT) and motor activity log (MAL)-28 according to age and handedness in healthy adults, and AAUT inter-rater reliability for assessment of healthy adults. Objects: This study aimed to (1) research the differences in AAUT and MAL-28 according to age and handedness in healthy adults, and (2) determine the inter-rater reliability of the AAUT. Methods: Seventy healthy adults participated in this study. The MAL-28 was assessed by dividing 61 subjects into young right-handed ($n_1=20$), young left-handed ($n_2=21$), and older right-handed ($n_3=20$) groups. The AAUT was assessed by dividing 63 subjects into young right-handed ($n_1=25$), young left-handed ($n_2=18$), and older right-handed ($n_3=20$) groups. Student's t-test and the Wilcoxon signedrank test were used for statistical analysis. Results: The Amount of Use (AOU) scale values for each group showed no significant differences between age groups and handedness groups in the MAL-28 (p>.05). The AAUT AOU scale value showed significant differences regarding dominant handedness in the AAUT (p<.05), but no significant differences according to age (p>.05). (2) Inter-rater reliability of the AAUT was excellent, except few items (item 9, 11, and 12). Conclusion: Although both the MAL-28 and the AAUT measured how much participants used their dominant arms in healthy subjects, the AAUT only showed significantly higher dominant arm use in left hander than the right hander. In addition, the inter-rater reliability of the AAUT was excellent. Current results can be utilized as a basic information when clinicians develop rehabilitation strategies, and AAUT was shown to be a reliable evaluation tool for measurement of upper extremity use in Korean adults, based on the reliability demonstrated by this study.
