  • Artifacts due to inter-particle and gas-particle interactions during PM2.5 sampling were quantified by comparing the measurement results between the annular denuder-filterpack system and the filterpack system without denuder. Measurements were carried in Seoul for 10 days in each season; Nov. 2004, Jan. 2005, Mar. 2005, and Jul. 2005, respectively. In each day, two 12-h samples were obtained. The concentrations of nitrate and chloride showed seasonal variations mainly due to the availability of ammonium to neutralize nitrate or chloride. Nitrates and chloride losses were prominent in summer. Since most of ammonia was used to neutralize sulfuric acid and formed ammonium sulfate in summer, nitrate and chloride could not exist in particles and ammonium loss was smaller than other seasons.

  • In this study, we used activated carbon(AC) as a carbon source, along with zeolite, to prepare spherical carbons using sucrose, starch and phenolic resin(PR) as binder material. The physicochemical characteristics of the three samples(AZ4P, AZ6P and AZ8P) were examined by BET, XRD, SEM, EDX, $H_2S/NH_3$ gas adsorption, compressive strength and ignition test techniques. Through comparative analysis of the compressive strength and ignition test results the AZ8P sample was found to have the best hardness and the highest temperature resistance capacity. After activation, the AZ8P sample had the best $H_2S$ adsorption capacity, and AZ6P was the most suitable for the adsorption of ammonia.

  • The preparations of deodorizing fibers using metalloporphyrines hove been investigated. The three metalloporphyrin derivatives(MTCPP, M=Mn, Zn, Sn) were prepared in modest to good yields. The metalloporphyrin derivative as a deodorant material was Introduced to fibers by a dyeing method. The deodorant activity(D.A.) of these deodorizing fibers was measured by chromogenic gas detector tubes. In comparison with untreated fiber, these deodorizing fibers was remarkably effective against $NH_3$ and $CH_3$SH$. More than 98% of ammonia can be removed within 20 min.. The D.A.(%) of fiber adsorbed MTCPP was more than 80% after 90min..

  • The liquid of ripened Kimchi was spread on phenylethylalcohol sucrose medium and incubated at 20$^{\circ}C$ for 2 days in order to isolate Leuconostoc sp. strains. Twenty isolated colonies were identified as Leuconostoc sp. strains from sugar fermentation test. Dextransucrase activities of the isolated strains were determined and the strain J-2 showed highest activity. The morphological, cultural and physiological studies on these 5 strains showed that gram(+), spores(-), motility(-) and produced gas from glucose, acid in Whittenbury C. Only Y-1 strain produced ammonia from arginine.

  • To investigate the characteristics of nitrocarburizing for high carbon chromium bearing steel, it was undertaken 4 hours holding at $850^{\circ}C$ in the atmosphere containing 60% endothermic gas and 40% ammonia. The microstructure of nitrocarburized surface consists of ${\varepsilon}-Fe_{2-3}N$, ${\gamma}^{\prime}-Fe_4N$, $Fe_3C$ and $Fe_3$(C,N), and the ${\varepsilon}$-nitride was rich in the surface-internal part. The nitrocarburized surface contains a larger volume fraction of primary carbonitrides and has more retained austenite and is slightly harder than the interior.

  • High temperature furnace such as Steam power plant and incinerator contribute considerable part of NOx generation and face urgent demand of De-NOx system. Reducing agents are necessary to use De-NOx system. In this study mixing caused by direct injection of reducing agent solution spray into flue gas duct was measured. Carbonated water was used as tracer and simulated agent because ammonia as a reducing agent is not proper to experiment. Mixing and evaporation must occur simultaneously and quickly enough to achieve desirable efficiency. To achieve that, the angle of attack of static mixer and the location is simulated and $CO_2$ concentration is measured.

  • The effectiveness of silicon nitride SiNx surface passivation is investigated and quantified. This study adopted single-layer antireflection (SLAR) coating of SiNx for efficiency improvement of solar cell. The silicon nitride films were deposited by means of plasma enhanced chemical vapor deposition (PECVD) in planar coil reactor. The process gases used were pure ammonia and a mixture of silane and helium. The thickness and the refractive index on the films were measured by ellipsometry and chemical bonds were determined by using an FT-IR equipment. This films obtained were analyzed in term of hydrogen content, refractive index for gas flow ratio $(NH_3/SiH_4)$, and efficiency of solar cell. The polycrystalline silicon solar cells passivated by silicon nitride shows efficiency above 12.8%.

  • SiO2 films were nitrided by tungsten-halogen heated rapid thermal annealing in ammonia gas at temperatures of 900-1100\ulcorner for 15-180sec. The nitroxide films were analyzed using Auger electron spectroscopy. MIS caapcitors were fabricated using these films as gate insulators. I-V and C-V characteristics of MIS capacitors were investigated. The AES depth profiles of nitroxide film show that the nitrogen rich layer is, at the early stage of nitridation, formed at the surface of nitroxide film and near the interface between nitroxide and silicon. Nitridation of SiO2 makes the film have a larger effective average refractive index. The thermal nitridation of SiO2 on silicon causes the flatband voltage shift due to the change of the fixed charge density. It is found that the dominant conduction mechanism in nitroxide is Fowler-Nordheim tunneling. Rapid thermal nitridation of 200\ulcornerSiO2 on silicon results in an improvement in the dielectric breakdown electric field.

  • In this study, the concentrations of offensive odorous compounds seasonally emitted from the chemical plant at Chongju industrial complex in Korea were determined by the analytical methods of gas chromatography, high performance liquid chromatography and uv/vis spectroscopy. The kinds of offensive odorous compounds examined are formaldehyde, acetaldehyde, butyl aldehyde, propion aldehyde, n-valeric aldehyde, iso-valeric aldehyde, hydrogen sulfide, methyl mercaptan, dimethyl sulfide, dimethyl disulfide, trimethyl amine and ammonia. The seasonally emission levels of all odorous compounds except dimethyl sulfide at 13 sampling points of plant were lower than those of the regulation standard levels of the industrial complex in Korea. The levels were the highest in June, and lowest in December. The propion aldehyde and iso-valeric aldehyde in June and December, butyl aldehyde in December, and n-valeric aldehyde were not detected in all the three seasons at any sampling points of the plant examined. But in June, dimethyl sulfide was emitted up to 16 times than that of the regulation level.
