In our previous studies, 6-hydroxy-7-methoxychroman-2-carboxylic acid N-phenylamide (KL-1156) was identified as a good inhibitor of nuclear factor-${\kappa}B$ (NF-${\kappa}B$) activation. In continuation of our study, we describe the structure-activity relationship of chroman derivatives containing N-arylalkyl groups and their NF-${\kappa}B$ inhibitory activities. In addition, inhibitory effects of cell proliferation are evaluated against human cancer cell lines (NCI-H23 and PC-3). The most active compounds 3i and 3j contained diphenylethyl and diphenylpropyl side chain on amide nitrogen.
The gas-phase pyrolysis reactions of iminoethers (Ⅱ), 2-alkoxypyridines (Ⅲ), 2-N-alkylated pyridones (Ⅳ) and N-alkylated acetamides (Ⅴ) have been studied MO theoretically with the AM1 method. The decomposition of these compounds proceeds by a concerted retro-ene process through a six-membered cyclic transition state. The reactivity decreases in the order (Ⅱ) > (Ⅲ) > (Ⅳ) > (Ⅴ), with a greater reactivity for the imine series, (Ⅱ) and (Ⅲ), compared to the amide series, (Ⅳ) and (Ⅴ), and a difference in basicity between the N and O atoms. Within a given series, however, the reactivity is dictated mainly by the aromaticity in the transition state. The reactivity order with respect to side alkyl chain of a species was found to increase as the steric crowding effect increases. The AM1 reactivity in this work agree well with the experimental results.

O/W emulsions were prepared by adding water to the solution containing amphiphilic resin and the mixed emulsifier of cetyl alcohol polyoxyethylene(20) sorbitan monooleate. Phase behavoir of these emulsions was studied at various HLB(Hydrophilic Lipophilic Balance) values and temperatures. The polar oil emulsion containing the amphiphilic resin showed improved phase stability at various temperatures. Model compounds which contain one of the functional groups in the amphiphilic resin were used in the polar oil phase in order to study the effect of interaction between the functional group and the emulsifier on the phase stability of emulsion. These model compound emulsions showed the phase stability order of poly(acrylic acid)
The synthesis of 2-methyl-5,5'-gem-disubstituted-$\Delta^2$-thiazolines has been undertaken by two methods. The first involves the preparation of gem-disubstituted N-or S-acetylamino mercaptan intermediates by ring opening of the corresponding thiiranes with ammonia. The second consists of the ring opening of gem-disubstituted ethylene imines using thiolacetic acid. The thiirane rings have never been opened under conditions as vigorous as that of using sodium amide in liquid ammonia. This is probably due to retardation by the gem-disubstituents. In contrast to this, the corresponding ethylene imine ring opens easily, in spite of the same stereochemical situation. The stabilization of gem-disubstituted cyclic compounds has been discussed from a stereochemical point of view. It has been concluded from the results of this work that the compression effect of gem-disubstitution is not due to bond angle deformation, which was observed by Thorpe and Ingold, but mostly to an electronic bond interaction of the gem-disubstituents and to the hetero atom(s), if any.

The $v_{a^+}$ Amide II combination band of thioacetamide has been used to evaluate thermodynamic parameters of the hydrogen bonding of thioacetamide(TA) with pyridine(Py), quinoline(Qu), and acridine(Ac) in $CHCl_3$ and $CCl_4$ over the temperature range from 5$^{\circ}C$ to 55$^{\circ}C$. This combination band was resolved into two Lorentzian-Gaussian product bands which have been identified withmonomeric TA and hydrogen bonded TA. The thermodynamic parameters for the hydrogen bonded TA were determined by computer analysis of concentration and temperature dependent spectra. The standard enthalpies for the 1 : 1 hydrogen bonded complex of TA to pyridine, quinoline, and acridine in $CHCl_3$ have been found to be -7.6 kJ/mol, -6.5 kJ/mol, and -5.4 kJ/mol, respectively. And the standard enthalpies for the 1: 1 hydrogen bonded complex of TA to pyridine and quinoline in $CCl_4$ have been found to be -13.3kJ/mol, and -12.0kJ/mol, respectively.

Finding a safe and broad-spectrum medication is a goal of scientists, pharmacists, and physicians, but developing and fabricating the right medicine can be challenging. The current study describes the formation of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) by Fusarium mangiferae. It involves the antibiofilm activity of the nanoparticles against Staphylococcus aureus. It also involves cytotoxic effect against mammalian cell lines. Well-dispersed nanoparticles are formed by F. mangiferae. The sizes of the nanoparticles were found to range from 25 to 52 nm, and UV-Vis scan showed absorption around 416-420 nm. SEM, TEM, and AFM results displayed spherical and oval shapes. Furthermore, the FTIR histogram detected amide I and amide II compounds responsible for the stability of AgNPs in an aqueous solution. AgNPs were observed to decrease the formation of biofilm at 75% (v/v). DNA reducing, smearing, and perhaps fragmentation were noticed after treating the bacterial cells with 50% (v/v). Additionally, cell lysis was detected releasing proteins in the supernatant. It was also observed that the AgNPs have the ability to cause 59% cervical cancer cell line (HeLa) deaths at 25% (v/v), however, they showed about 31% toxicity against rat embryo fibroblast transformed cell lines (REF). The results of this study prove the efficiency of AgNPs as an antibiofilm against S. aureus, suggesting that AgNPs could be an alternative to antibiotics. It must also be emphasized that AgNPs displayed cytotoxic behavior against mammalian cell lines. Further studies are needed for assessing risk in relation to the possible benefit of prescribing AgNPs.

Background : A new extraction method-heated ultrasonic extraction was qualitatively and quantitatively analyzed for the extraction of major ginsenosides from ginseng extract; this new high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) method was compared with the official extraction method of Korean industrial standards and standard for health functional food. Methods and Results : Ginsenoside compounds were analyzed for 35 minutes by the new HPLC analysis method using a Halo$^{(R)}$ RP-Amide column. The new HPLC analysis method was validated by the measurement of intra-day and inter-day precision, accuracy, limit of detection (LOD), and limit of quantification (LOQ) of each ginsenoside. The correlation coefficients (r2) for the calibration curves of the ginsenoside compounds were over 0.9997 in terms of linearity. The heated ultrasonic extraction method using ultrasonication for 30 minutes at $50^{\circ}C$ yielded higher amount of ginsenosides than the extraction method of the Korean industrial standards owing to the enhancement of extraction efficiency. Conclusions : Compared to the other extraction methods, the heated ultrasonic extraction method yielded a higher amount of ginsenoside Rb1 than Rg1 index compounds for the quality evaluation of ginseng roots.

[99mTc]Tc-Hexamethylpropylene amine oxime (HMPAO) is currently used as a regional cerebral blood flow imaging agent for single photon emission computed tomography (SPECT). The HMPAO ligand exists in two isomeric forms: d,l and meso showing different properties in vivo. Later studies indicated that brain uptake patterns of 99mTc-complexes formed from separated enantiomers differed. Separation of enantiomers is difficult by fractional crystallizations method. Usually, the substance is obtained in low chemical yield in a time-consuming procedure. Furthermore, the final product still contains some impurity. So we have developed new efficient route for synthesis of R,R- and S,S-HMPAO enantiomeric compounds in 6-steps. Nucleophilic substitution (SN2) reactions of 2,2-dimethylpropane-1,3-diamine either with S- (1a) or R-methyl2-chloropropanoate (1b) were performed to produce compounds R,R- (2a) or S,S-isomer (2b) derivatives protected with benzylchloroformate (Cbz), respectively. And then Weinreb amide and methylation reaction using Grignard reagent, oxime formation with ketone group and deprotectiion of Cbz group by hydrogenolysis gave S,S- (7a) or R,R-HMPAO (7b), respectively. Entaniomeric compounds were synthesied with high yield and purity without any undesired product. The 7a or 7b kits containing 10 ㎍ SnCl2-2H2O were labeled with 99mTc with high radiolabeling yield (90%).
This experiment has been carried out to study the changes of caseins is Gouda-type cheese during ripening by the use of DEAE-cellulose column and polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. The results obtained were as follow: 1. The amount of water soluble nitrogenous compounds in the cheese ripened for 2 and 4 months was 19.03% and 30.61% for total nitrogen in the cheese, respectively. On the other hand, the amount of 5% NaCl soluble nitrogenous compounds in the cheese increased to 41.13% for 2 months ripening, but it decreased to 22.61% at 4th month. 2. By DEAE-cellulose column, various nitrogenous compounds of Gouda-type cheese were fractionated into 5 major and several minor peaks. The proportion of some fraction areas to the whole increased with the ripening period and the others decreased. 3. Electrophoretic patterns of various nitrogenous compounds in a 4-month-old cheese showed 5 and 8 bands, repectively. 4. Sixteen amino acids were identified in soluble and precipitable compounds at 12% TCA in a 4-month-old cheese.

A series of hybrid molecules between (${\alpha}$)-lipoic acid (ALA) and 4-amino-1-benzyl piperidines were synthesized and their in vitro cholinesterase (acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BuChE)) inhibitory activities were evaluated. Even though the parent compounds did not exhibit any inhibitory activity against cholinesterase (ChE) with the exception of compound 14 ($IC_{50}=255.26{\pm}4.41$ against BuChE), all hybrid molecules demonstrated BuChE inhibitory activity. Some hybrid compounds also displayed AChE inhibitory activity. Specifically, compound 17 was shown to be an effective inhibitor against both AChE ($IC_{50}=1.75{\pm}0.30{\mu}M$) and BuChE ($IC_{50}=5.61{\pm}1.25{\mu}M$) comparable to galantamine ($IC_{50}=1.7{\pm}0.9{\mu}M$ against AChE and $IC_{50}=9.4{\pm}2.5{\mu}M$ against BuChE). Inhibition kinetic studies using compound 17 indicated a mixed inhibition type for AChE and a noncompetitive inhibition type for BuChE. Its binding affinity ($K_i$) values to AChE and BuChE were $3.8{\pm}0.005{\mu}M$ and $7.0{\pm}0.04{\mu}M$, respectively.
