Internal and external defects of eggs should be detected to prevent cross-contamination of intact eggs by abnormal eggs during storage. Emerging detection technologies for abnormal eggs were introduced as an alternative to human inspection. The advanced technologies could rapidly detect abnormal eggs. Abnormal egg detection technologies using acoustic response, machine vision, and spectroscopy have been commercialized in the poultry industry. Non-destructive egg quality assessment methods meanwhile could preserve the value of eggs and improve detection efficiency. In order to improve detection efficiency, it is essential to select a proper algorithm for classifying the types of abnormal eggs. This review deals with the performance of the detection technologies for various types of abnormal eggs in recently published resources. In addition, the discriminant methods and detection algorithms of abnormal eggs reported in the published literature were investigated. Although the majority of the studies were conducted on a laboratory scale, the developed detection technologies for internal and external defects in eggs were technically feasible to obtain the excellent detection accuracy. To apply the developed detection technologies to the poultry industry, it is necessary to achieve the detection rates required from the industry.
Regenerative medicine using stem cells from various sources are emerging treatment modality in several refractory diseases in veterinary medicine. It is well-known that stem cells can differentiate into specific cell types, self-renew, and regenerate. In addition, the unique immunomodulatory effects of stem cells have made stem cell transplantation a promising option for treating a wide range of disease and injuries. Recently, the medical demands for companion animals have been rapidly increasing, and certain disease conditions require alternative treatment options. In this review, we focused on stem cell application research in companion animals including experimental models, case reports and clinical trials in dogs and cats. The clinical studies and therapeutic protocols were categorized, evaluated and summarized according to the organ systems involved. The results indicate that evidence for the effectiveness of cell-based treatment in specific diseases or organ systems is not yet conclusive. Nonetheless, stem cell therapy may be a realistic treatment option in the near future, therefore, considerable efforts are needed to find optimized cell sources, cell numbers and delivery methods in order to standardize treatment methods and evaluation processes.
For its essential importance as a resource, sustainable development of groundwater has been major research interests for many decades. Conventional characterization of aquifer and groundwater has relied on borehole data from observation well. Although borehole data provide useful information on yield and flow of groundwater, it is often difficult and sometimes costly to estimate the spatial distribution of groundwater in entire aquifer. Geophysical probing is an alternative techique that provides such information due to its capability to image subsurface structures as well as to delineate spatial distribution of hydraulic parameters. This study presents various technical information about geophysical probing to estimate main characteristics of aquifer for groundwater exploitation. Subsequently, we analyzed representative cases, in which geophysical methods were applied to identify the location of the groundwater, classify freshwater and brine, derive hydraulic constants, and monitor groundwater.

A rapid and reliable approach to the identification of microorganisms is a critical requirement for large-scale culturomics analysis. MALDI-TOF MS is a suitable technique that can be a better alternative to conventional biochemical and gene sequencing methods as it is economical both in terms of cost and labor. In this review, the applications of MALDI-TOF MS for the comprehensive identification of microorganisms and bacterial strain typing for culturomics-based approaches for various environmental studies including bioremediation, plant sciences, agriculture and food microbiology have been widely explored. However, the restriction of this technique is attributed to insufficient coverage of the mass spectral database. To improve the applications of this technique for the identification of novel isolates, the spectral database should be updated with the peptide mass fingerprint (PMF) of type strains with not only microbes with clinical relevance but also from various environmental sources. Further, the development of enhanced sample processing methods and new algorithms for automation and de-replication of isolates will increase its application in microbial ecology studies.

Occlusion is one of the most challenging problems for computer vision-based construction monitoring. Due to the intrinsic dynamics of construction scenes, vision-based technologies inevitably suffer from occlusions. Previous researchers have proposed the occlusion handling methods by leveraging the prior information from the sequential images. However, these methods cannot be employed for construction object detection in non-sequential images. As an alternative occlusion handling method, this study proposes a data augmentation-based framework that can enhance the detection performance under occlusions. The proposed approach is specially designed for rebar occlusions, the distinctive type of occlusions frequently happen during construction worker detection. In the proposed method, the artificial rebars are synthetically generated to emulate possible rebar occlusions in construction sites. In this regard, the proposed method enables the model to train a variety of occluded images, thereby improving the detection performance without requiring sequential information. The effectiveness of the proposed method is validated by showing that the proposed method outperforms the baseline model without augmentation. The outcomes demonstrate the great potential of the data augmentation techniques for occlusion handling that can be readily applied to typical object detectors without changing their model architecture.
Monitoring large structures is a significant issue involving public health on which new studies are constantly carried out. Although the Global Navigation Satellite System (GNSS) is the most preferable method for measuring structural displacements, total stations, one of the classical geodetic instruments, are the first devices that come to mind in cases that require complementary usage and auxiliary measurement methods. In this study, the relative displacements of the structural movements of a tower were determined using robotic total stations (RTS) and GNSS. Two GNSS receivers and two RTS observations were carried out simultaneously for 10 hours under normal weather conditions. The spectral analysis of the GNSS data was performed using fast Fourier transform (FFT), and while the dominant modal frequencies were determined, the total station data were balanced with the least-squares technique, and the position and position errors were calculated for each measurement epoch. It has been observed that low-frequency structural movements can be determined by both methods. This result shows that total station measurements are a helpful alternative method for monitoring large structures in situations where measurements are not possible due to the basic handicaps of GNSS or where it is necessary to determine displacements with short observations.
Purpose: This study identifies the effects of meridian massage on relieving facial paralysis, pain, and anxiety in Bell's palsy patients. Methods: A nonequivalent control group pre-test/post-test design was used for the study. The subjects were 51 Bell's palsy patients (experimental group=26, control group=25) of D University's oriental medicine hospital. The experimental group received a meridian massage for 20 min three times a week for two weeks. The data were analyzed with the following methods by using the SPSS/WIN 12.0 program: $x^2$-test, Fisher's exact test, and t-test. Results: The facial paralysis scores of the experimental group were significantly higher than those of the control group. The pain and anxiety scores of the experimental group were significantly lower than those of the control group. Conclusions: The results suggest that meridian massage (applied by nurses) has beneficial effects on facial paralysis, pain, and anxiety in patients suffering from Bell's palsy. Thus, meridian massage is recommended as an alternative nursing intervention program for patients with Bell's palsy.
A comprehensive study was conducted to design economical foundations for a number of buildings on soft cohesive soil in the southern coastal regions of Iran. Both static and seismic loads were considered in the design process. Cyclic experiments indicated that the cohesive soil of the area has potential for softening. Consequently, the major challenge in the design stages was relatively high dimensions of settlement, under both static and seismic loadings. Routine soil-improvement methods were too costly for the vast area of the project. After detailed numerical modeling of different scenarios, we concluded that, in following a performance-based design approach and applying a special time schedule of construction, most of the settlement would dissipate during the construction of the buildings. Making the foundation as rigid as possible was another way to prevent any probable differential settlement. Stiff subgrade of stone and lime mortar under the grid foundation and a reinforced concrete slab on the foundation were considered as appropriate to this effect. In favor of an economical design, in case the design earthquake strikes the site, the estimations indicate no collapse of the buildings even if considerable uniform settlements may occur. This is a considerable alternative design to costly soil-improvement methods.
Purpose: This study aims to establish detailed spatial planning by identifying the needs for a seclusion module for emergency psychiatric patients. Methods: The necessity of medical space with seclusion function was analyzed from spatial, medical, and social perspectives. The needs for a space capable of performing three medical functions: protection, isolation, and treatment, was analyzed. Among various types of mobile medical facilities, seclusion space was considered suitable for utilizing modular construction methods, as it is the most rational method that can satisfy the environmental level of fixed healthcare facilities' space. Therefore, seclusion modules based on modular construction were planned, consisting of two protective units for stabilizing patients with psychiatric illness, one for treatment unit that can accommodate both internal and external treatment, and another one for an infectious disease isolation unit equipped with negative pressure equipment. Implications: This study analyzed the necessary medical functions of the interior space of the mobile stabilization module based on the spatial analysis of existing medical facilities, and proposed alternative spatial configurations according to treatment, seclusion, isolation functions.

Successful implementations of DevOps practices significantly improvise software efficiency, collaboration and security. Most of the organizations are adopting DevOps for faster and quality software delivery. DevOps brings development and operation teams together to overcome all kind of communication gaps responsible for software failures. It relies on different sets of alternative tools to automate the tasks of continuous integration, testing, delivery, deployment and monitoring. Although DevOps is followed for being very reliable and responsible environment for quality software delivery yet it lacks many quantifiable aspects to prove it on the top of other traditional and agile development methods. This research evaluates quantitative performance of DevOps and traditional/ agile development methods based on software metrics. This research includes three sample projects or code repositories to quantify the results and for DevOps integrated selective tool chain; current research considers our earlier proposed and implemented DevOps hybrid model of integrated automation tools. For result discussion and validation, tabular and graphical comparisons have also been included to retrieve best performer model. This comparative and evaluative research will be of much advantage to our young researchers/ students to get well versed with automotive environment of DevOps, latest emerging buzzword of development industries.
