  • In this study, we attempt to propose a choice-based diffusion model with switching cost, which can be used to forecast the dynamic substitution and competition among previous and new products at both individual-level and aggregate level, especially when market data for new products is insufficient. Additionally, we apply the proposed model to the empirical case of substitution and competition among Analog Cable TV that represents previous fixed charged broadcasting service and Digital Cable TV and Internet Protocol TV (IPTV) that are new ones, verify the validities of our proposed model, and finally derive related empirical implications. For empirical application, we obtained data from survey conducted as follows. Survey was administered by Dongseo Research to 1,000 adults aging from 20 to 60 living in Seoul, Korea, in May of 2007, under the title of 'Demand analysis of next generation fixed interactive broadcasting services'. Conjoint survey modified as follows, was used. First, as the traditional approach in conjoint analysis, we extracted 16 hypothetical alternative cards from the orthogonal design using important attributes and levels of next generation interactive broadcasting services which were determined by previous literature review and experts' comments. Again, we divided 16 conjoint cards into 4 groups, and thus composed 4 choice sets with 4 alternatives each. Therefore, each respondent faces 4 different hypothetical choice situations. In addition to this, we added two ways of modification. First, we asked the respondents to include the status-quo broadcasting services they subscribe to, as another alternative in each choice set. As a result, respondents choose the most preferred alternative among 5 alternatives consisting of 1 alternative with current subscription and 4 hypothetical alternatives in 4 choice sets. Modification of traditional conjoint survey in this way enabled us to estimate the factors related to switching cost or switching threshold in addition to the effects of attributes. Also, by using both revealed preference data(1 alternative with current subscription) and stated preference data (4 hypothetical alternatives), additional advantages in terms of the estimation properties and more conservative and realistic forecast, can be achieved. Second, we asked the respondents to choose the most preferred alternative while considering their expected adoption timing or switching timing. Respondents are asked to report their expected adoption or switching timing among 14 half-year points after the introduction of next generation broadcasting services. As a result, for each respondent, 14 observations with 5 alternatives for each period, are obtained, which results in panel-type data. Finally, this panel-type data consisting of $4{\ast}14{\ast}1000=56000$observations is used for estimation of the individual-level consumer adoption model. From the results obtained by empirical application, in case of forecasting the demand of new products without considering existence of previous product(s) and(or) switching cost factors, it is found that overestimated speed of diffusion at introductory stage or distorted predictions can be obtained, and as such, validities of our proposed model in which both existence of previous products and switching cost factors are properly considered, are verified. Also, it is found that proposed model can produce flexible patterns of market evolution depending on the degree of the effects of consumer preferences for the attributes of the alternatives on individual-level state transition, rather than following S-shaped curve assumed a priori. Empirically, it is found that in various scenarios with diverse combinations of prices, IPTV is more likely to take advantageous positions over Digital Cable TV in obtaining subscribers. Meanwhile, despite inferiorities in many technological attributes, Analog Cable TV, which is regarded as previous product in our analysis, is likely to be substituted by new services gradually rather than abruptly thanks to the advantage in low service charge and existence of high switching cost in fixed charged broadcasting service market.

  • This paper starts with a model of monopolistic competition and endogenous growth, and it adds pollution as an input to production. Then I adopt environmental quality as a renewable resource used in production. I show that increasing returns due to specialization of clean activities as inputs can help lead to sustainable growth with no harm to environmental quality. I also compare and evaluate alternative policy combinations (i.e. taxes +subsidies) that correct two distortions from pollution and monopolistic competition. Finally, I find that, if the productivity of environment in final good production is not sufficiently enough, the number of clean goods tends to increase with more environmental concerns.

  • Decision Science or Decision Analysis can be described as a scientific methodolog to provide suitable quantitative information for the decision maker to be able to selected the best feasible alternative on the given decision environment and thus we can say that where there are decision problems, there needs the decision analysis to be applied to them. International shipping is generally said to be the cheapest and most widely used means of transport in international trade and each of the hundreds of seaport. So far as the decision makings in the shipping and port transportation are concerned, of real importance is to understand what the decision problems in each of shipping and port transportation really are and to recognize the meaning of relevance between shipping and seaport in the outworn phrase, that is to say, "The chain is as strong as its weakest link." This paper is intended to present a literature survey on the applied decision analysis to shipping and port transportation problems which have actually been involved in the wide variety of decision environment. At first, the author suggests four divisional framework such as decision analysis in each field of Shipping Economics, Management and Operations of Shipping, Port Economics, and Port Operation and Management, according to the main concern of the decision environment, and then the literature surveys on those four major divisions are described including the problems and solution approaches in each case. The author concludes the paper with the comment on the need of joint research around this area by citing the phrase of "a process of updating the decision makers' intuitions."s' intuitions."quot;

  • The purpose of this study is to understand how late middle-aged women in our society view and adapt to “aging”. This is a crucial step forward linking two stages, the growing young age and the declining old age, which eventually improves the qualify of life in old a9e. This qualitative study used Personal narratives extracted from tape-recorded interviews of 20 late middle-aged women in their fifties and analyzed key experiences of late middle-aged women in their transition to old age. Participants were observed to perceive not only many limitations but also alternative potentialities. First, the major challenges due to the closing young era were ‘physical declines’, including health problems and wrinkles, and ‘leaving children’. Second, the potentialities to start a new era also could be found. Many participants found themselves to be generous enough to assist others in need. In addition, they looked to adapt to new challenges. It was likely that the many adversities that they had faced made them resilient. These results show that late middle-aged women were actively negotiating with themselves and their surroundings in order to overcome their losses, maintain their potentialities, and, in the process, acknowledge their impending old age for better preparation.

  • The purpose of the study was to develop family-based intervention program to be implemented and disseminated via "Healthy Family-Support Center." This preventive-empowerment program was designed to intervene with parenting mildly handicapped children enrolled at integrated kindergarten. The theoretical backgrounds employed were ecological theory, preventive family-based intervention approach, and theraplay theory. The pretest-posttest control-group design with random assignment was applied. The research model yielded a significant intervention effect(t=-1.294, p<0.05) on mothers' parenting stress. With proven effectiveness of family-based intervention program, the study further discussed why an ecological, family-based intervention model was a relevant alternative to investigate issues in family welfare, and why an individualized family service plan was a relevant tool to deliver services-in-context for the families who needed supports from exo-and macrosystems.

  • This study was conducted field surveys and theoretical discussion whether small farmers thinks there are economics of scope in small organically grown cropslivestock farming cycling system. The discussions are summarized as follows. At the end of October 2011, the cycling agriculture farms are only a total of 15 farmers, 0.1% of total organic farms in Korea. The FMD disease, FTA, family farm structure, the importance of animal health and welfare, agricultural cycles, when considering the valuation of the multifunctionality, alternative agriculture is small farming cycling system. Organic agriculture is a 'cooperation-cycling-family farm' in the interaction it is important to understand. The two groups were surveyed. Group 1 is 6 farmers who practicing cycling farming system, and Group 2 is the 33 farmers who wish to cycling farming system. Interview survey and the survey results was obtained as follows. First, We find that there are strong economies of scope, due to a decreased costs have increased net profit. Second, the multifunctional values is realized also cycling farming system. Third, but some certification standards leads to high transaction cost. Thus, a small family farm who wishing to target organic livestock certification standards need to improve.

  • This study was undertaken to test to fit forms of the Engel curves to data. The comparisons were confined to the linear, semi-logarithmic and double-logarithmic forms. Data from the 1970-1987 Urban Household Economy Survey were used to estimate the Engel curves. The twelve categories of consumption expenditure were considered for investigation. Parameters of the Engel curves were derived from OLS and TSLS. In this paper the size of the family was used as the deflater. The results could be summarized as follows: 1. Comparing with the R2 of three foms, it could be concluded that, the linear form generally gave a better fit to data than the other forms did. Only for housing and clothing and foot wear, did the semi-logarithmic form give a better fit. Only for meals outside the home, fuel, light and water charges, and miscellaneous, did the double-logarithmic form give a better fit. 2. Comping with the income elasticities based on the alternative forms, it could be concluded that the differences between the estimates were since each form made different assumption as to the way in which elasticity varied. In general, the semi-logarithmic form gave the highest estimate and double-logarithmic form did the lowest estimate. The difference between semi-logarithmic and the other forms were greater than the those of linear and double-logarithmic form. 3. It was found that the income elasticity varied with the difinition of income used as an explanatory variable in Engel curves.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine aspects stressors experienced by adolescents and make a comparison of their coping in terms of criteria of average and delinquent, male and female. The subjects were 506 adolescents of 2nd grade high school in Taejon and delinquent in D,A city. The data was analyzed by mean, standard deviation, two way ANOVA, and correlation analysis. The main results of this study were as follows: (a) It was found that regardless and behavior patterns, adolescents feel stress by pocket maney problem, relationship with teachers, and mental health(in the descending order). It is interesting to note that the stress from girl and boy friends proved to be much higher with delinquent adolescents than with average ones. In the case of subcategories of health, family relationship, and school life, it was found that average adolescents feel more stress than delinquents ones, whereas the reverse is case with the problem of relationship with relatives, school friends, and girl or boy friends. On the other hand, it was discoved that for the problem of physical and mental health, pocket money, parent and school friend relationships, females feel more stress than males. (b) With the differences of the coping og stress, it was found that while average adolescents as a whole tend to rely upon logical analysis and positive attitude, delinequent counterparts expect alternative reward and reveal the avoidance coping of emotional discharge. (c) The correlation between the stressors and coping showed partial differences, as the differences in the relation between average and delinquent adolescents, males and females in each sub-category.

  • Purpose - Work stress environment is expanding alongside the speed of worldwide change and psychological well-being concerns are coming about because pressure over-burden can bring about lost workdays, lower representative usefulness, and high occupation turnover rates. For this reason, this study investigates to provide how practitioners can manage employee work stress using health psychology based on prior studies. Research design, Data, and methodology - Qualitative textual research involves collecting and analyzing various non-numeric data to establish different concepts or opinions in prior literature. That means that the present researcher carried out qualitative research in multiple ways, investigating many kinds of previous textual data, such as prior published peer-reviewed resources and case studies analysis. Result - The results revealed that directed symbolism has been displayed to improve prosperity and tranquility among employees with an assortment of persistent infections. Like diaphragmatic breathing, reflection practices consolidate zeroing in on a particular article or sensation (like breathing) while at the same time separating from other distracters and controlling inward encounters (for example, feelings, musings) through non-critical acknowledgment. Conclusion - This research proposes that intellectual rebuilding or figuring out how to perceive maladaptive musings and change them to reflect more versatile; judicious idea examples can fundamentally further develop temperament, diminish pressure, and reduction negative feelings for employees.

  • The objective of the study is to empirically investigate the impact of bank capital on the lending behavior of Vietnamese commercial banks from 2007 to 2019. Lending behavior is captured by two dimensions, including the quantity (loan growth) and quality (credit risk) of loans. Instead of investigating loan growth and credit risk separately, we combine these two aspects in our study and further develop the interaction term between capital buffers and credit risk to capture the asymmetric impact. We apply the dynamic model (regressed by the generalized method of moments) and the static models (regressed using the fixed effects, random effects, and the pooled regression approach) to perform regressions. The results show that banks with higher capital ratios tend to expand lending more, while the risk of credit portfolios is controlled at lower levels at these banks. Further analysis reveals that credit risk mitigates some aspects of the relationship between bank capital and loan expansion. The patterns remain robust across alternative measures and econometric techniques. The study provides insightful policy implications for bank managers and regulators in the process of upgrading capital resources to ensure the safety and soundness of the banking industry in an emerging country.
