  • It is often the case that one wants to estimate parameters of the distribution which follows certain parametric model, while the dta are contaminated. it is well known that the maximum likelihood estimators are not robust to contamination. Basuet al.(1998) proposed a robust method called the minimum density power divergence estimation. In this paper, we investigate data-driven selection of the tuning parameter $\alpha$ in the minimum density power divergence estimation. A criterion is proposed and its performance is studied through the simulation. The simulation includes three cases of estimation problem.

  • The estimation filter in radar systems must track targets' position within low tracking error. In the Multi-Function Radar(MFR), ${\alpha}-{\beta}$ filter and Kalman filter are widely used to track single or multiple targets. However, due to target maneuvering, these filters may not reduce tracking error, therefore, may lost target tracks. In this paper, a target tracking filter based on particle filtering algorithm is proposed for the MFR. The advantage of this method is that it can track targets within low tracking error while targets maneuver and reduce impoverishment of particles by the proposed resampling method. From the simulation results, the improved tracking performance is obtained by the proposed filtering algorithm.

  • A Korean commercial sweet rice drink "Sikhye" showed sucrose, fructose, glucose, maltose, limit dextrin and various size of maltooligosaccharides in HPLC and TLC analysis. Commercial Sikhye was found to contain 0.09% of limit dextrin and 0.2% of rice residue. Limit dextrin in commercial Sikhye showed both signal of $\alpha$-1,4- and $\alpha$-1,6-glucosidic linkage with its estimation ratio of 15:1 by 1H-NMR analysis. This limit dextrin was hydrolyzed to produce various size of maltooligosaccarides with more longer chain than that of traditional Sikhye by pullulanase. Limit dextrin was digested wit enzymes(30units/ml) of $\alpha$-amylase, $\alpha$-glucosidase and glucoamylase from Aspergillus awamori, sweet potato $\beta$-amylase and human salivary $\alpha$-amylase at 37$^{\circ}C$ for 1 hour, respectively. Hydrolysis rates of these amylases on it were higher than in case of traditional sikhye. $\alpha$-Glucosidase plus human salivary $\alpha$-amylase hydrolyzed it to 61.3%. Hydrolysis rates of these amylases on rice residue were lower than that of traditional Sikye. These results suggest that limit dextrin in commercial Sikhye is less effective than isomaltooligosaccharides in traditional Sikhye as a growth factor for Bifidobacterium while rice residue in commercial Sikhye is more effective than that in traditional Sikhye as dietary fiber.ary fiber.

  • Geo-layer information is important to determine pile length and estimate residual settlement in the construction site. An overall spatial distribution of geo-layers in the entire construction site can be predicted using drill-log information. In this study, the geo-layer distribution at Song-do area was estimated by kriging and inverse distance weighting methods, and a cross validation was adopted to verify the reliability of estimation results. The analysis results indicate that the best fitted theoretical variogram model to the experimental variogram does not always provide the most reliable estimation in the kriging method. The proper $\alpha$ value of inverse distance weighting method must be determined by types of geo-layer, because the $\alpha$ value is affected by types of geo-layer. Results of the kriging method show more reliable results than those of inverse distance weighting method, and the structure of geo-layer distribution could be evaluated by variogram in the kriging method.

  • "Tracking" here refers to the estimation of a moving object with some degree of accuracy where at least one measurement is given. The measurement, which is the sensor-obtained output, contains systemic errors and errors that are due to the surrounding environment. Tracking filters play the key role of the target-state estimation after the updating of the tracking system; therefore, the type of filter that is used for the conduction of the estimations is crucial in the determining of the reliability of the updated value, and this is especially true since the performances of different filters vary when they are subjected to different environmental and initial conditions. The purpose of this paper is the conduction of a comparison between the performances of the ${\alpha}-{\beta}-{\gamma}$ filter and the Kalman filter regarding an ARPA-system tracking module that is used on board high-dynamic warships. The comparison is based on the capability of each filter to reduce noise and maintain a stable response. The residual error is computed from the difference between the true and predicted positions and the true and estimated positions for the given sample. The results indicate that the tracking accuracy of the Kalman filter is higher compared with that of the optimal ${\alpha}-{\beta}-{\gamma}$ filter; however, the response of the optimal ${\alpha}-{\beta}-{\gamma}$ filter is more stable.

  • Bench scale Sikhyes were produced from rice and glutinous rice and limit dextrins in rice Sikhye and glutinous rice Sikhye were purified by ethanol precipitation and Biogel P-2 gel chromatography and FPLC on Superose 12 column and analyzed. The purified limit dextrin in rice Sikhye and glutinous rice Sikhye showed bot signal of $\alpha$-1,4- and $\alpha$-1,6-glucosidic linkage with its estimation ratio of 4.5:1 and 5.9:1, respectively, by 1H-NMR analysis. Limit dextrins were hydrolyzed by pullulanase. The enzyme hydrolysis products contained maltose, maltotriose, maltotetraose, maltopentaose and matohexaose. These results suggest that limit dextrins were composed of these maltoolgosaccharide series with $\alpha$-1,6-glucosidic bond.

  • Chronic liver diseases and hepatic cancer have been reported as 10% of cause of death in Koreans. Regardless of various causes, chronic liver disease accompanies commonly hepatic fibrosis. But still the mechanism of hepatic fibrosis remains poorly understood. Using the dimethylnitrosamine(DMN)-induced hepatic fibrosis rat model, We performed to evaluate the possible therapeutic effect of RIP(extracts of Phellodendron amurense and Patrinia scabiosaefolia) and to investigate the changes in referential connective tissue proteins($TGF-{\beta}_1$, ${\alpha}$-smooth muscle actin, and vimentin) as a marker of fibrogenesis. For these purposes, liver tissues were stained with H & E, and Azan staining for estimation of developing fibrosis. In the DMN-treated rat liver tissue, fibrosis were developed forming incomplete septal fibrosis. Whereas, in the RIP-treated rat liver tissues, the fibrosis were decreased recovering to normal morphology. The expressions of $TGF-{\beta}_1$, ${\alpha}$-smooth muscle actin($\alpha-SMA$), and vimetin were increased in the DMN-treated rat liver tissues, but decreased in the various areas of RIP-treated rat liver tissues. According to these results, RIP could be a possible therapeutic agent to reduce hepatic fibrosis, and the $TGF-{\beta}_1$, ${\alpha}$-SMA, and vimentin could be possible indicative markers of hepatic fibrosis development and recovery.

  • Working memory (WM), which plays a vital role in daily activities, is a memory system that temporarily stores and processes information when people are engaged in complex cognitive activities. The influence of music on WM has been widely studied. In this work, we conducted a series of n-back memory experiments with different task difficulties and multiple trials on 14 subjects under the condition of no music and Alpha wave leading music. The analysis of behavioral data show that the change of music condition has significant effect on the accuracy and time of memory reaction (p<0.01), both of which are improved after the stimulation of Alpha wave music. Behavioral results also suggest that short-term training has no significant impact on working memory. In the further analysis of electrophysiology (EEG) data recorded in the experiment, auto-regressive (AR) model is employed to extract features, after which an average classification accuracy of 82.9% is achieved with support vector machine (SVM) classifier in distinguishing between before and after WM enhancement. The above findings indicate that Alpha wave leading music can improve WM, and the combination of AR model and SVM classifier is effective in detecting the brain activity changes resulting from music stimulation.

  • Limit dextrin of Korean beer(3 brands) and Japanese beer(21 brands) were separated by ethanol fractionation. Limit dextrin of Korean and Japanese beer was estimated to be 1.1%. 1H-NMR analysis revealed that the limit dextrin showed both signal of $\alpha$-1, 4- and $\alpha$-1, 6- glucosidic linkage with its estimation ratio of average 5.5:1. Limit dextrin was hydrolyzed to glucose with the yield of 57.22% by Aspergillus awamori $\alpha$-glucosidase(24.7 unit) plus human salivay $\alpha$-amylase(2.4 unit) in 100${mu}ell$ of 0.043M acetate buffer at 37$^{\circ}C$ for 5 hour. Among them, limit dextrin of Korean beer showed the highest hydrolysis rate of 76%. Small size sugars (64.8%) removed by ethanol fractionation and limit dextrin(21.4%) hydrolyzed by amylases that is digestable sugar. Non hydrolyzed limit dextrin(13.8%) by the amylases which can be a growth factor of Bifidobacterium in human intestine.
