  • Titanium silicalite-1 catalyst was prepared using a $SiO_2-TiO_2$ xerogel and applied to allylchloride (ALC) epoxidation by $H_2O_2$ as oxidant in a batch reactor. The reaction temperature was varied from 25 to $55^{\circ}C$, and the concentrations of ALC and $H_2O_2$ were changed from 0.2 to 3 M and from 0.2 to 1.5 M, respectively. The kinetic data obtained were applied to the power rate law, Eley-Rideal, and a Langmuir-Hinshelwood model, and power rate law fits the experimental data best. Activation energy was 27.9 kJ/mol, and the reaction orders with respect to $H_2O_2$ and ALC were determined to be 0.41 and 0.52, respectively.

  • Chlorodeoxycellulose derivatives have recently assumed importance since the halogen atoms can be changed with other functional groups to afford new derivatives of cellulose. Also, chlorinated cellulose has been employed as an intermediate in the preparation of various functional cellulose derivatives. In this study chlorodeoxycellulose was prepared by reaction of methylcellulose with mathanesulfonylchloride in N,N-dimethylformamide. Subsequently, conversion of the above chlorinated cellulose to unsaturated celluloseen was carried out by potassium tertiary butoxide in dimethyl sulfoxide. An anhydrocellulose as an intermediate for the reactive functional derivatives was made by simple alkali treatment. Preparation condition of allylated methylcellulose by using allylchloride and its thermal behavior were also described.

  • Mesoporous TS-1 catalysts were prepared via a nanocasting route using two different carbon template sources of CMK-3 and commercial carbon black. Products were characterized by XRD, UV-Vis spectroscopy, SEM, TEM, and $N_2$ adsorption- desorption measurement. The catalytic performances of the samples for allylchloride epoxidation and oxidative desulfurization of the representative refractory sulfur compounds, dibenzothiophene and 4,6-dimethyldibenzothiophene, were compared against those of conventional TS-1. Whilst the allychloride epoxidation activity for the mesoporus TS-1 samples were similar, mesoporous TS-1 exhibited significantly higher catalytic activities than conventional TS-1 in oxidative desulfurization.
