Electrochromic devices (ECDs) have been drawing great attention due to their high color contrast, low power consumption, and memory effect, and can be used in smart windows, automatic dimming mirrors, and information display devices. As with other electronic devices such as LEDs (light emitting diodes), solar cells, and transistors, the mechanical flexibility of ECDs is one of the most important issue for their potential applications. In this paper, we report on flexible ECDs (f-ECDs) fabricated using an all-in-one EC gel, which is a mixture of electrolyte and EC material. The f-ECDs are compared with rigid ECDs (r-ECDs) on ITO glass substrate in terms of color contrast, coloration efficiency, and switching speed. It is confirmed that the f-ECDs embedding all-in-one gel show strong blue absorption and have competitive EC performance. Repetitive bending tests show a degradation of electrochromic performance, which must be improved using an optimized device fabrication process.
In recent years the interest in organic/inorganic hybrid materials has increased at a fast rate. Nano organic-inorganic hybrid composites have shown advantages for preparing hard coating layers. Especially, nano hybrid composite has low environmental pollution. It has high transparency, hardness, toughness, thermal dissociation temperature, hydrophobicity by using nano sized inorganic material. There are many ways in which these materials may be synthesized, a typical one being the use of silica and silanes using the sol-gel process. The structure of sol-gel silica evolves as a result of these successive hydrolysis and condensation reactions and the subsequent drying and curing. The sol-gel reactions are catalyzed by acids and produce silica sol solutions. The silica sol grows until they reach a size where a gel transition occurs and a solid-like gel is formed. Colloidal silica(CS)/silane sol solutions were synthesized in variation with parameters such as different acidity and reaction time. In order to understand their physical and chemical properties, sol-gel coating films were fabricated on glass. From all sol-gel solutions, seasoning effect of sol-gel coating layer on glass was observed.
The purpose of the present study was to evaluate the effects of 5% tetracycline(Tc) with or without citric acid on periodontally diseased root surfaces. Six single-rooted teeth extracted from one patient was selected and received thorough scaling and root planning, followed by saline irrigation. Each one tooth was divided into eight fragments with a thin separating disc. Total 48 fragments were prepared and setted into 4 groups for this study. Group I (control group)were treated with saline. Group II were treated with 5% Tc gel. Group III were treated with 33% citric acid-5% Tc gel. Group IV were treated with Tc solution. All the specimens are evaluated under Scanning Electron Microscope(SEM). Group I showed large amount of debris in spite of thorough scaling and root planing, but Group II, III & IV showed clean and soft root surface texture. In higher magnification(x3, 000), Group II, III & IV showed nunmerous dentinal tubules, especially Group IV showed collagen fibrils. In the present study, Tc gel and Tc gel with citric showed clinically successful result when treated on periodontally diseased root surface, in vitro.
Recently, plenty of imported Chinese Mungbean is sold, for Korean Mungbean is expensive. But they say, Chinese Mungean has less delicacy and cooking quality. Above all, in comparison with Korean and Chinese Mungbeans properties they are different - Chinese Mungbean grain is twice in dimension, Chinese Mungbean is white and Korean one is yellow in peeled grain color. They are similar in size shape with the microscope. With Amylograph of Brabender the viscosity of Korean Mungbean is gradually and continually increased until heating from $25^{\circ}C$ to $92.5^{\circ}C$ and cooling to $25^{\circ}C$ again, but the one of Chines Mungbean is increased suddenly in 74$^{\circ}C$ and shows the abrupt break-down phenomenon. This same phenomenon is shown in swelling with melting-pointer, In $25^{\circ}C$, the cooling temperature, Chinese Mungbean is measured to 1400 B.U and Korean one 1600 B.U. With color-meter of Richard S. Hunter, 12% gel of Korean Mungbean starch is clear but Chinese one white. The texture of 12% gel of Chinese Mungbean starch with Rheo-meter becomes hardened much more than Korea one. As a result of sensory-test, color, cohesiveness, and flavors of Korean gel is preferred overwhelmingly.
Recently, electrochromic devices (ECDs) have gathered increasing attention owing to their high color contrast and memory effect, which make them highly applicable to smart windows, auto-dimming mirrors, sensors, etc. Traditional ECDs have a sandwich structure that contains an electrochromic layer between two ITO substrates. These sandwich-type devices are usually fabricated through the lamination of two electrodes and followed by the injection of a liquid electrolyte in the inner space. However, this process is sometimes complex and time consuming. In this study, we fabricated ECDs with a lateral electrode structure that uses only an ITO substrate and an all-in-one electrochromic gel, which is a mixture of electrolyte and electrochromic material. Furthermore, we investigated the EC properties of the lateral-type device by comparing it with a sandwich-type device. The lateral-type ECD shows strong blue absorption as the applied voltage increases and has a competitive coloration efficiency compared to the sandwich-type device.
This study was designed to determine the most effective concentration of fluoride and levels of laser irradiation for the remineralization of decayed teeth. After irradiation with a pulsed Nd:YAG laser and the topical application of fluoride, phosphate and fluoride concentration in enamel were measured. And then the changes on surface enamel using an scanning electron microscope were observed. Samples by extraction healthy, permanent, mandibular bovine teeth with no caries were obtained. Among them 371 healthy samples were selected and artificial carious lesions were made. 20 samples were assigned to each experimental group. After irradiation with a pulsed Nd:YAG laser with total energy densities of 10J/$\textrm{cm}^2$, 20J/$\textrm{cm}^2$ for each group. On the teeth, 2% NaF, 1.9% NH4F, 1.6% TiF4 Elmex gel(amine fluoride) and 1.23% APF gel were applied. After pH circulatory procedures, concentrations of fluoride with and Ionalyzer (Orion Research, Model 901, USA) and phosphates with an Uv/V is spectrophotometer (Uvikon 860, Kontrom Co, Switzerland) were measured. By etching the teeth in layers and measuring fluoride concentrations, a profile of fluoride penetration according to depth could be developed. And also the changes on the surface of the enamel using an electron scanning microscope were observed. The comparative analysis yielded the following results : 1. Phosphate concentration was low in all groups compared with the control group except for teeth treated Elmex gel, irradiated with 10J/$\textrm{cm}^2$ and 30J/$\textrm{cm}^2$ energy densities. Teeth treated with APF gel and 30J/$\textrm{cm}^2$ irradiation gad the lowest phosphate concentration. 2. Among all groups, fluoride concentrations in tooth enamel were highest in APF gel and NaF groups irradiated at 30J/$\textrm{cm}^2$. The APF gel group had the highest fluoride concentrations across all energy densities. 3. In the APF gel group, and the NaF group, the greater the energy density of the laser, the higher the fluoride concentrations in the enamel. 4. In all groups, the concentration of fluoride in the enamel by depth tended to decrease with depth. 5. Under the scanning electron microscope, under the condition of irradiation with 20J/$\textrm{cm}^2$, enamel crack was detected for the first time. In the NH4F group, spherical deposits were found on the surface of the enamel, and in the TiF4 group the surface of enamel was covered with an irregular, thin membranous mass in places. In the APF gel and NaF groups irradiated with 10J/$\textrm{cm}^2$, spherical and irregular particles covered the teeth. When these groups were irradiated at 20J/cm2, they were covered with amorphous crystals. These results suggest that one could obtain more effective anticariogenic effects without damage to teeth when less than 20J/$\textrm{cm}^2$ energy densities and APF gel are used.

Although scaling is the primary method for improving oral health, it is also associated with dental fear. The objective of this study was to empirically verify whether the use of gel anesthetic within the gingival sulcus during scaling relieves pain and improves other factors. A total of 128 patients scheduled to undergo scaling at a dental clinic of a general hospital located in the Gyeonggi Province, between July 2014 and July 2015, were enrolled in the study. The participants underwent scaling following the application of 20% benzocaine gel or placebo gel anesthetic within the gingival sulcus, and the data was collected using a questionnaire. There was a significant difference in the severity of pain, participant satisfaction, perceived sensitivity, overall discomfort, and fear of scaling between the two groups. The two groups were compared in terms of perceived need for gel anesthesia, willingness to pay for anesthesia costs, and willingness to receive scaling in the future. There were significant differences in all the three parameters depending on whether gel anesthesia was used or not. There were significant differences between the two groups in perceived sensitivity immediately after scaling and one day after scaling, with no difference seen one week after scaling. With regards to overall discomfort over time, there were significant differences between the two groups immediately after scaling. Based on these findings, we expect that application of gel anesthetic within the gingival sulcus during scaling will reduce pain, perceived sensitivity, overall discomfort, and fear of scaling with increased satisfaction.
Of the Asp. spp. isolated by the Institute of Applied Microbiology, Kon-Kuk University, 7 strains were selected for the study of the immunological differencences among them using gel precipitation test. The strains were the following types : 1 type of flavus and 2 types of oryzae were isolated from Meju ; 1 type of flavus from Nuruk ; and each one type of flavus, parasiticus and oryzae from Kokja.Asp.flavus from ATCC, Asp. parasiticus nad Asp. niger NRRL strains were also used in the study as a standard. From this study, several points can be raised ; 1) There was no common antigenic property between Asp. niger and Asp. flavus, because of no formation of reaction line. Therefore, all strains could be easily distinguished. 2) There was common antigenic property, that is, the formation of reaction line between Asp. flavus and Asp. parasticus. Accordingly two strains could not be easily distinguished by the gel precipitation test. 3) Each type of oryzae, parasiticus and flavus of Asp. flavus group had common antigen one another as well as specific antigens only in the difference of the reaction lines, so they could be easily identified in the gel precipitation test. 4) Each isolated strain from Meju and Nuruk appeared to be identical. 5) It was shown that the gel precipitation test of serological methods was very useful for the classification of Asp. spp.
Homogeneous human deoxycytidine kinase was purified in one step from a variety of spontaneous human leukemic cells (T-ALL, B-ALL, B-CLL, AML, CML), and from cultured T-lymphoblast cells (MOLT-4) using the newly developed affinity medium, $dCp_4$-Sepharose. Starting with an ammonium sulfate fraction, purification was achieved in one step with the kinase being eluted from a column by the end product inhibitor, dCTP. The purified deoxycytidine kinase from T-ALL cells phosphorylated deoxyadenosine and deoxyguanosine, as well as deoxycytidine. The enzyme purified from T-ALL and B-CLL cells yielded one major band with a molecular weight of 52 kDa determined by SDS-polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis. AML and CML cells yielded one 52 kDa band and an extra band of 30 kDa molecular weight. On the other hand, B-ALL and MOLT-4 cells showed a low molecular weight band of 30 kDa only. However, the electrophoretic mobilities of enzymatic activity in 12% non-denaturing gels were identical for the dCyd kinase from all different kinds of leukemic cell lines, except that the B-ALL, B-CLL, and MOLT-4 cell preparations had an extra minor peak, all at the same position. dAdo and dCyd phosphorylating activities comigrated indicating that these activities are all associated with the same protein. Two new methods, a disk implantation method and a nitrocellulose powder method were used with a small amount of enzyme protein to raise polyclonal antibodies against dCyd kinase purified from T-ALL cells.
Objectives : To evaluate the effect of fluoride application on the color and microhardness of bleached enamel and compare it to that of casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate (CPP-ACP) application. Methods : Twenty freshly extracted human adult molar were each sectioned into halves, the specimens divided and treated according to five experimental groups: Group 1, treatment with 10% carbamide peroxide (CP) bleaching agent; Group 2, treatment with 10% CP followed by a 1.23% fluoride gel application; Group 3, treatment with 10% CP followed by a 2.23% sodium fluoride varnish application; Group 4, treatment with 10% CP followed by a 0.11% sodium fluoride gel application; Group 5, treatment with 10% CP followed by a CPP-ACP gel application. All groups were treated 6 h per day for 14 days then immersed in distilled water for 2 weeks. Changes in enamel color were evaluated on Baseline and Day 14. Microhardness were evaluated on Baseline, Days 7 and 14. Statistical analysis was performed using one-way ANOVA and post-hoc Tukey tests. Results : All the bleached enamel specimens revealed increased whiteness and overall color value. Group 1 showed the lowest microhardness values than that of Groups 2, 3, 4 and 5. In all groups, the hardness of tooth after bleaching showed a significant decrease in the microhardness as compared with the one prior to tooth bleaching. The specimens treated with remineralizing agents showed relatively less reduction in enamel microhardness than control group. Conclusions : The addition of fluoride and CPP-ACP did not impede the whitening effect. The use of remineralizing agents during bleaching treatment can significantly enhance the microhardness of bleached enamel.
