  • Better fundamental understanding of the interactions between the in-cylinder flows and combustion process is an important requirement for further improvement in the fuel economy and emissions of internal combustion(IC) engines. Flow near a spark plug at the time of ignition plays an important role for early flame kernel development(EFKD). Velocity data measurements in this study were made with a two-component laser Doppler velocimetry(LDV) near a spark plug in a single cylinder optical spark ignition(SI) engine with a heart-shaped combustion chamber. LDV velocity data were collected on an individual cycle basis under wide-open motored conditions with an engine speed of 1,000rpm. This study examines and compares the flow fields as interpreted through ensemble, cyclic and discrete wavelet transformation(DWT) analysis. The energy distributions in the non-stationary engine flows are also investigated over crank angle phase and frequency through continuous wavelet transformation(CWT) for a position near a spark plug. Wavelet analysis is appropriate for analyzing the flow fields in engines because it gives information about the transient events in a time and frequency plane. The results of CWT analysis are provided and compared with the mean flows of DWT first decomposition level for all cycles at a position. Low frequency high energy found with CWT corresponds well with the peak locations of the mean velocity. The high frequency flows caused by the intake jet gradually decay as the piston approaches the bottom dead center(BDC).

  • Turbo-fans for a FFU unit should be aerodynamically designed to provide the FFU system with the given flow-rate at the lowest rotational-speed by considering the interaction effect with the FFU casing. In this study, slim and highly efficient turbo-fans are designed to satisfy the given performance at the specific speed by using the hybrid-stacking method of an inducer and a 2D-bladed turbo fan. The mean-line analysis, cascade theory, and CFD technique are all together applied to control the passage areas on the meridional plane from the inlet to the exit of the blade. Furthermore, the torque control algorithm is adopted to improve the performances within the constraints by the motor rpm-torque characteristics, and the resulting measured performances of mock-up fans are discussed.

  • The vehicle-induced aerodynamic loads bring vibrations to some of the highway sound barriers, for they are designed in consideration of natural wind loads only. A field experiment is carried out with respect to three important factors: vehicle type, vehicle speed and the vehicle-barrier separation distance. Based on the results, the time-history of pressures is given, showing identical characteristics in all cases. Therefore, the vehicle-induced aerodynamic loads acting on the highway sound barrier are summarized as the combination of "head impact" and "wake impact". The head impact appears to have potential features, while the wake impact is influenced by the rotational flow. Then parameters in the experiment are analyzed, showing that the head impact varies with vehicle speed, vehicle-barrier separation distance, vehicle shape and cross-sectional area, while the wake impact is mainly about vehicle-barrier separation distance and vehicle length.

  • The aim of this study was to examine the influence of the speed of grinding and coolants on mercury vaporization during amalgam removal. Forty amalgam filled stone dies were stored at $37^{\circ}C$ and 100% relative humidity for 7 days prior to the beginning of the mercury vapor experiment and were divided into 4 different groups; In Group I; Used by high speed without coolant & evacuator during amalgam removal. In Group II; Used by high speed with coolant & evacuator during amalgam removal. In Group III; Used by low speed without coolant & evacuator during amalgam removal. In Group IV; Used by low speed with coolant & evacuator during amalgam removal. The amalgam specimens were removed in a 30-second time period and mercury vapor was collected with membrane filter at 27mm from the site of removal and 45 degree above there. Samples in Group II, IV were removed with coolant spray at a flow rate of 30 ml/min with high-velocity evacuator. Mercury vapor collected membrane filter was analysed by Atomic Absorption Spectrophotometer using cold vapor method. The results were as follows; 1. The mercury vapor levels were obtained all of the Groups. 2. The mercury vapor levels of the Group II, IV (with coolant & evacuator) were less than that of the Group I, III (without coolant & evacuator). 3. The highest mercury vapor level recorded during amalgam removal procedure was Group I (used by high speed without coolant & evacuator) and its record was $0.78{\pm}0.09\;mg/m^3$, which exceed the T.L.V. by 15 times. 4. The mercury vapor level of the Group IV (used by low speed with coolant & evacuator) was more than that of the Group II (used by high speed with coolant & evacuator), but its difference was not significant, statistically. • As an essential part of the urban transportation system, precise perception of the traffic flow parameters at the traffic signal intersection ensures traffic safety and fully improves the intersection's capacity. Traditional detection methods of road traffic flow parameter can be divided into the micro and the macro. The microscopic detection methods include geomagnetic induction coil technology, aerial detection technology based on the unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV) and camera video detection technology based on the fixed scene. The macroscopic detection methods include floating car data analysis technology. All the above methods have their advantages and disadvantages. Recently, indoor location methods based on wireless signals have attracted wide attention due to their applicability and low cost. This paper extends the wireless signal indoor location method to the outdoor intersection scene for traffic flow parameter estimation. In this paper, the detection scene is constructed at the intersection based on the received signal strength indication (RSSI) ranging technology extracted from the wireless signal. We extracted the RSSI data from the wireless signals sent to the road side unit (RSU) by the vehicle nodes, calibrated the RSSI ranging model, and finally obtained the traffic flow parameters of the intersection entrance road. We measured the average speed of traffic flow through multiple simulation experiments, the trajectory of traffic flow, and the spatiotemporal map at a single intersection inlet. Finally, we obtained the queue length of the inlet lane at the intersection. The simulation results of the experiment show that the RSSI ranging positioning method based on wireless signals can accurately estimate the traffic flow parameters at the intersection, which also provides a foundation for accurately estimating the traffic flow state in the future era of the Internet of Vehicles.

  • Human and material damage can be reduced if the risk is evaluated by engineering analysis of fire combustion products, smoke concentration, and smoke movement speed in the event of a fire in apartment houses and officetels. In this study, a lot of research on related safety evaluation in the basement needs to be studied and reflected in design, so experimental research was conducted to analyze the flow of smoke through computer simulation and provide analysis data through evacuation safety evaluation. First of all, the five-story underground parking lot subject to simulation has a large floor area, which is advantageous for improving evacuation safety performance, but it uses temperature detectors to increase detection time and fire spread speed. Second, it was analyzed that the evacuation time at all evacuation ports did not exceed the evacuation time, and as the time from the start of evacuation to the evacuation time was 216.9% compared to the travel time, it was evaluated that the safety performance of the evacuation was secured. Third, the above simulation results are a comprehensive safety evaluation based on the non-operation of fire extinguishing facilities in the fire room to increase safety, which means that smoother evacuation safety performance can be secured by linking fire extinguishing facilities.

  • A Continuous Descent Approach(CDA) is defined as a simple, cost-effective, noise and emission abatement technique for any powered aircraft on approach. CDA also can be optimised within energy, speed and safety constraints by avoiding unnecessary flap, air brake and engine thrust. This study includes comparison on fuel consumption between Continuous Descent type and Step Down type by using flight data. In particular, we investigated fuel flow per hour, calibrated airspeed and pressure altitude for all flight time. During descent flight, the fuel consumption of Continuous Descent type was less than the fuel consumption of Step Down type.

  • The Internet is a packet switched network which offers best-effort service, but current IP network provide enhanced services such Quality of Services, Virtual Private Network (VPN) services, Distribute Firewall and IP Security Gateways. All such services need packet classification for determining the flow. The problem is performing scalable packet classification at wire speeds even as rule databases increase in size. Therefore, this research offer packet classification algorithm that increase classifier performance when working with enlarge rules database by rearrange rule structure into Bitmap Intersection Lookup (BIL) tables. It will use packet's header field for looking up BIL tables and take the result with intersection operation by logical AND. This approach will use simple algorithm and rule structure, it make classifier have high search speed and fast updates.

  • Hydrostatic Bearings have been applied to ultra high precision machine tools and precision instruments, because of their low friction characteristic, high load carrying capacity and high moving accuracy at all range of speed. In regard to realizing the Hydrostatic Bearing, various restrictors such as capillary, orifice, diaphram valve, spool valve, and etc can be used. However, their stiffness and flexibility are not sufficient in practical use for ultra precision machine tool elements. In this study dynamic equations were derived and the dynamic characteristics were simulated for both orifice and flow control servo valve. Simulation was carried out on the condition that static and sinusoidal dynamic loads were applied to the table of CNC jig Boring machine. The simulation results indicate the improvement of the performance of the Bearing system when flow control servo valve has been used as restrictor of Hydrostatic Bearing.

  • This study presents an experimental investigation of the shallow water impact of a box type structure. The analysis was done based on the video images captured by a high speed camera, the flow field obtained by PIV (Particle Image Velocimetry), and pressure measurements in the divided region. The video images showed quite good agreement with the description given by Korobkin. The PIV measurements of the velocity field provided a clear view of the flow pattern for all three stages. The pressure was measured at the bottom of the tank with strain gauge type pressure gauges. The pressure measurements showed the characteristics of divided regions.
