The Effect of Alkali Metal Ions on Reactions of 8-(5-Nitroquinolyl) 3-Furoate with Alkali Metal Ethoxides in Anhydrous Ethanol

  • Pseudo-first-order rate constants have been measured spectrophotometrically for the reactions of 8-(5-nitroquinolyl) 3-furoate with alkali metal ethoxides in anhydrous ethanol. The plot of kobs vs the concentration of alkali metal ethox ides is linear for the reactions performed in the presence of a complexing agent, 18-crown-6 ether, but exhibits upward curvatures for the corresponding reactions performed in the absence of the complexing agent, indicating that the alkali metal ions in this study behave as catalysts. Second-order rate constants were determined for the reactions with dissociated free ethoxide (kEtO-) and with ion paired alkali metal ethoxides (kEtO-M + ) from ion pairing treatments. The magnitude of catalytic effect (kEtO-M + /kEtO-) was found to be 1.7, 3.4 and 2.5 for the reaction of 8-(5-nitroquinolyl) 3-furoate, while 1.4, 3.6 and 4.2 for that of 4-nitrophenyl 2-furoate, 1.8, 3.7 and 2.4 for that of 8-(5-nitroquinolyl) benzoate, and 2.0, 9.8 and 9.3 for that of 8-(5-nitroquinolyl) 2-furoate with EtO- Li+ , EtO- Na+ and EtO- K+ , respectively. A 5-membered chelation at the leaving group is suggested to be responsible for the catalytic effect shown by alkali metal ions.

알칼리 처리에 따른 케나프 섬유의 특성 변화 연구 (Characteristics of Kenaf Fibers Treated by Alkali)

  • Kenaf fiber can be obtained by decortications of the kenaf plant stem. The properties of the kenaf fiber treated by alkali (NaOH) were investigated by spectrocolorimeter, SEM, X-ray diffractometer, FT-IR and TGA. The kenaf fibers treated by alkali became darker and their Munsell color values changed from Y (yellow) to YR (yellowred) according to an increased NaOH concentration. SEM observation of the kenaf fibers showed that their crimps were developed and their surfaces were cleaned by the removal of protruding ends and impurities after alkali treatments. In the x-ray diffraction analysis, the structures of the fibers were found in the form of cellulose I when treated with a 0-16% alkali concentration and cellulose II when treated with over 20%. It was also confirmed that the crystallinity was lowered according to an increased NaOH concentration. The change of fiber compositions was investigated in FT-IR analysis. Strong band of $1,738cm^{-1}$ and asymmetrical stretching strong bands of $1,630-1,600cm^{-1}$ in spectrum (which represent pectin) were not found in the samples because the pectin was removed by the alkali treatment. Weak bands of $1,728-1,730cm^{-1}$ and peaks of $1,245-1,259cm^{-1}$ (which represent hemicellulose) and peaks of $1,592cm^{-1}$, $1,504cm^{-1}$, $1,462cm^{-1}$ and $1,429cm^{-1}$ (which are related to lignin) were not found or reduced in the samples treated with a concentration over 20%. TGA indicated that the kenaf fiber had the better hydrophilic properties by alkali treatment. The higher Tmax in TGA and the higher thermal stability when treated by alkali with the higher concentration. The fibers treated with an alkali concentration over 30% did not show any changes in Tmax.

국내 쇄석골재를 사용한 모르타르 봉 및 콘크리트 각주 시험편의 알칼리-실리카 반응성 비교 (Comparison of Alkali-Silica Reactivity for Mortar Bar and Concrete Prism Specimens Using Crushed Aggregates in Korea)

  • PURPOSES: The purpose of this study is to compare the alkali-silica reactivity for mortar bar and concrete prism specimens using crushed aggregates of 5 types in Korea. And the alkali-silica reactivity for those aggregates are measured by chemical test method. METHODS: The alkali-silica reactivity for those aggregates was measured by chemical test method of KS F 2545, mortar-bar test of KS F 2546, accelerated mortar-bar test method of ASTM C 1260 and concrete prism test method of ASTM C 1293, relatively. RESULTS: The alkali-silica reactivity for those aggregates was verified by chemical test of KS F 2546 and accelerated mortar-bar test of ASTM C 1260. However, it was not by mortar-bar test of KS F 2546 and concrete prism test of ASTM C 1293. CONCLUSIONS: The above results showed that relationship among the four test methods were very low. The results from 3 types of test methods using cement-aggregate combinations appeared to be different. Because the environmental conditions of test methods for measuring the alkali-silica reactivity such as equivalent alkali content(external source), humidity, temperature, and times were different though the aggregates were same. Moreover, alkali-silica reactivity showed the biggest impact when alkalis were supplied form outside and exposed to environmental conditions. The accelerated mortar-bar test method seems to be most appropriate test method for concrete structures exposed to alkali environment.

북한 압동 니오븀-탄탈륨(Nb-Ta) 광산의 지질 및 광상 (Geology and Ore Deposit of the Apdong Nb-Ta Mine, North Korea)

  • 알칼리 교대암내에 배태되는 압동 Nb-Ta 광상의 지질은 상부원생대의 퇴적암류와 이를 관입분포하는 고생대 후기에서 중생대 초기의 평강암군에 속하는 호암산 관입암체(알칼리 섬장암류), 쥬라기의 흑운모화강암 및 제4기의 현무암으로 구성된다. 알칼리 섬장암류는 각섬석-휘석 섬장암, 각섬석-흑운모 섬장암, 흑운-하석 섬장암, 흑운모 섬장암 및 석영-각섬석-휘석 섬장암 등을 포함한다. 후기 마그마 단계에서 수반되는 알칼리 교대작용에 의해 형성된 알칼리 교대암은 호암산 관입암체의 남쪽 가장자리를 따라 띠모양이나 불규칙한 맥상 및 렌즈상으로 Nb-Ta 광체를 이루고 있다. 산출되는 광석광물은 파이로크롤과 저어콘을 비롯하여 극소량의 콜럼바이트, 퍼규소나이트, 자철석, 형석, 휘수 연석, 티탄철석, 티타나이트, 인회석 및 모나자이트 등 이다. Nb, Ta, 희토류 및 방사성 원소(Th, U)를 함유하는 파이로크롤은 (1) 부화된 Ta, U 및 Ce, (2) 낮은 함량의 Ta 및 F (3) Th 또는 Ba의 부화 등으로 특징된다. 지화학적 특징과 광석의 구조 및 광물의 산출 특성으로 미루어 광화작용이 알칼리성 광화유체의 교대작용에 따른 것임을 알 수 있다.

쌀 Alkali 붕괴성의 유전 및 변이성에 관한 연구 (Inheritance and Variability of Alkali Digestion Value in Rice Kernels)

  • 미립 Alkali 붕괴도의 변이성과 유전현상을 구명하기 위하여 Japonita와 Indica 품종에서 Alkali 붕괴도가 높고 낮온 8개 품종을 가지고 KOH 농도에 따른 변이와 재배시기 및 등숙온도에 따른 변이정도를 조사하고 이 결과에 따라 품종간 반응의 차이가 가장 큰 조건하에서 $F_2$를 재배하였을 때 28개 조합의 Alkali 붕괴도에 따른 개체별 분포상태를 조사하였다. 1. 미립 Alkali 붕괴도는 품종에 따라, KOH 농도에 따라 변이가 컸는데 그중 3$0^{\circ}C$ 에서 23시간 처리한 경우 1.4%에서 품종간 차이가 가장 컸다. 2. Alkali 붕괴도는 이앙기가 늦어짐에 따라, 등숙숙온도가 낮아짐에 따라 증가하였고 그 증가정도는 양처리에서 모두 낮은 품종군에서 더 컸다. 3. 낮은 품종군과 높은 품종군간의 붕괴도 차이가 가장 큰 조건은 조기재배와 주야간 30/22$^{\circ}C$ 의 등숙온도에서였다. 4. Alkali 붕괴도가 같은 군끼리의 교잡에서는 문배친에 가까운 분포를 나타내었고, 15개 조합의 낮은 품종과 높은 품종간의 교잡에서는 낮은 쪽이 우성인 3 : 1의 분리가 9조합이었고 9 : 7과 13:3이 각각 2조합, 1:3이 1조합 그리고 분리비에 맞지 않는 것이 1조합 이었다.

  • The damages due to alkali-aggregate reaction between the reactive silicia constituents of the aggregate and the alkalies in cement have been frequently reported since 1923 in America . Recently alkali-aggregate reaction, especially alkali-silica reaction, can be found all over the area using crushed stones. The first research, in 1990, was performed to identify the alkali-silica reactivity of 18 sets of crushed stones used in domestic ready-mixed concrete plant as coarse aggregates by 4 petrollgical, chemical and mortar bar method, And the study was continued with 10 sets of crushed stones in this research. It was found that all the aggregates used in this study are innocuous at alkali-silica reaction.

  • Recently, the use of crushed stones is increased due to the shortage of natural aggregates. In the previous papers of part 1 and 2, we got the conclusions that some of crushed stones have the characteristic of alkali-silica reaction(ASR). And these reactions are influenced by the amount and type of alkali in cement. The purpose of this paper is how to prepare for the prevention against alkali-silica reaction. As a solution of problems, we have conducted the experiments of two methods. One was the replacement of innocuous aggregates instead of reactive aggregates, the other was the addition of various pozzolanic materials. As a result, we found that the expansion by alkali-silica reaction in mortar bar could be effectively decredsed by upper methods.

Recently, alkali-aggregate reaction, especially alkali-silica reaction, can be found all over the area using crushed stones. This research was performed to indentify the alkali-silica reactivity of 18 sets of crushed stones being used currently in domestic reacy-mixed concrete plant as coarse aggregates by petrollogical, chemical and mortar bar method. It is found that all the aggregates used in this study are innocuous at alkali-silica reaction. Further study will be carried out with some aggregates in more severe conditions.

  • The purpose of this paper is to investigate on hydration, setting time and compressive strength properties of cement paste mixed alkali-free accelerator using aluminum sulfate for shotcrete. The experimental focus is to variouse added element with alkali-free accelerator for shotcrete using aluminum sulfate. When diethanolamine was used as a component of alkali-free accelerator, alkali-free accelerator contributed to increasing early hydration, setting time and compressive strength properties of cement paste and mortar.

Application of Recycled Gypsum on Alkali Soil for Improving Agricultural Productivity in China

  • Gypsum has been known as a prominent material for improving alkali soil, and this material can be supplied easily in large scale by recycling waste gypsum plasterboard from construction and demolition sites in advanced countries. In April 2000, in the part of western Jilin Province in China, where alkali soil spread vastly, we conducted a cultivating experiment of corn and rice after treating with granule recycled waste gypsum at six alkali soil fields which total area were 14000$m^2$. We confirmed that pH of soil decreased in a short period and alkali soil changed soft a desirable condition for farm work, and furthermore, gypsum caused to accelerate the growth of a plant, both corn and rice.
