The Civil War is widely accepted as the single most meaningful event in American history that overcame the most fatal crisis of internal division of the nation with much success. That meaningfulness in turn glorifies the North's triumph over the South and justifies hierarchical differences between the two. Yet, as shown in the studies of Civil War literature, such glorification and justification relies too much on the North-centered historical paradigm. This essay aims to offer a way of rectifying it by examining a short story by one of the persistently obscured writers of the period: Elizabeth Stoddard. The essay follows the cue of Alice Fahs's cultural-studies methodology of using popular wartime periodicals as the main resource of the war literature, and reads Stoddard's "Sally's Choice" as one of the examples that expose the hegemonic bias inside the North-directed discourse of the time. This essay is expected to demonstrate the necessity of expanding and deepening our conception of 'literature,' 'the Civil War,' and 'Civil War literature' in an ever-flexible and ever-changeable manner.

In Saudi Arabia, female students tend to struggle with the basics of computer programming, especially coding. To better understand why female students sometimes perform poorly in this discipline, this qualitative study aims to obtain the views of female computer programming teachers at a Saudi university on using mobile learning (m-learning) methods in computer programming lectures. Ten teachers from the all-female Aljouf University were interviewed to assess their perceptions of m-learning, in particular, the usefulness of ViLLE visualisation software. Data were analysed using thematic analysis. Most interview responses about m-learning and ViLLE were positive, although there were some notable negative responses. The Saudi culture-related responses were evenly divided between positive and negative, reflecting the culture's limitations.

The Internet of Things (IoT) can be defined as the connection of devices, sensors, and actors via the Internet to a single network to provide services to end-users. Owing to the flexibility and simplicity of IoT devices, which impart convenience to end-users, the demand for these devices has increased significantly in the last decade. To make these systems more scalable, achieve a larger number of connected devices, and achieve greater economic success, it is vital to develop them by considering parameters such as security, cost, bandwidth, data rate, and power consumption. This study aims to improve energy efficiency and prolong the lifetime of IoT networks by proposing a new approach called the constrained application protocol CoAP45. This approach reduces the number of updates to the CoAP server using a centralized resource. The simulation results show that the proposed approach outperforms all existing protocols.

The mouse as an input device has undoubtedly brought convenience to users due to its intuitiveness and simplicity, but it also brought unprecedented issues such as carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). As a result, the necessity of alternative input devices that put less strain on the wrist, while still providing the convenience of a conventional mouse, has emerged. Unfortunately, there have been several research about alternative devices to replace a mouse, however, they showed inconsistent results. This study suggests that those inconsistent results may stem from the type and the difficulty of tasks used in previous studies. Therefore, we designed this study to compare the performance and perceived workload of three input devices (Mouse/Trackball/Touchpad) in each condition in terms of task type (Targeting/Tracking) and difficulty level (Easy/Hard). The results indicated that there were significant performance differences and no significant workload differences among the three devices, and the interactions were observed in some conditions. These results can provide users with practical guidelines to choose the optimal input device according to their needs or purpose.

To prevent toxicity from both robax platinum (methocarbamol, ibuprofen) and robaxacet (methocarbomol, acetaminophen), separately, we used stretches and naproxen as a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) to compare each effectiveness. This study used the United States Forces Korea Prescription form (Annex A-Over-The-Counter Prescription) and Alice Rich's Pain scale with robax platinum, robaxacet including narproxen. The IBM SPSS statics version 24 was used to calculate the data. The combined methocarbamol 500 mg, acetaminophen 325 mg tablet, and ibuprofen 200 mg (or naproxen) tablet can work as well as the combined methocarbamol 500 mg tablet with acetaminophen 325 mg tablet with stretches. Both methods were successful in managing pain. The drug combination of methocarbamol 500 mg, acetaminophen 325 mg and ibuprofen 200 mg tablets yielded similar benefits as the methocarbamol 500 mg and acetaminophen 325 mg tablets paired with physical stretching exercises regarding managing overall pain.

Objective: The purpose of this study was to evaluate whether the bond strength of polycarbonate brackets can be increased through surface treatment. Methods: One hundred polycarbonate brackets (Alice) were bonded to bovine incisors with light-cured adhesive. The bracket bases were treated with one of three methods; sandblasting, plastic conditioner application, and combined treatment with sandblasting and plastic conditioner. The brackets without any suraace treatment served as the control. The shear bond strength was tested with a universal testing machine, and failure pattern was assessed with the adhesive remnant index. Results: The shear bond strength in all experimental groups was higher than that of the control group (p < 0.001). The group treated with plastic conditioner after sandblasting showed statistically higher shear bond strength than the sandblasting only group to (p < 0.05). The group treated with plastic conditioner after sandblasting showed higher shear bond strength than plastic conditioner only group, but the difference was not statistically significant. Conclusion: The above results suggest that the surface treatments of polycarbonate bracket is mandatory to improve bond strength, and the most effective method is an application of plastic conditioner after sandblasting.

This study will analyze a case that utilizes not just the characters, which are a primary licensing component in traditional animation licensing, however secondary images such as animation backgrounds, and one that has visually extended their brand. Secondary image plays an important role in developing the narration of the animation, and provides the space where the narrative takes place. It also gives important clues for the characters to be able to develop a narrative, through its chronological and geographical dimensions. This study distinguishes the components that can be used in the licensing process of an original animation into primary usage and secondary usage, and defines the scope of each. Focused on two collaboration cases, Disney's The Jungle Book & KENZO, and Disney's Alice in Wonderland & Marc by Marc Jacobs, It investigates the relationship of visual utilization between the expressive components related to secondary usage in the collaborative case of licensing, and the actual product. This study found the possibility of secondary images as a vehicle to deliver brand identity. As the spectrum of licensing elements is extended, it is necessary to develop an alternative licensing system for the new process of collaboration.

현대사회는 지식 정보화 사회이다. 이러한 지식 정보화 사회에서는 단순한 지식의 습득보다는 문제 상황에 적절한 아이디어나 해결방법의 모색을 통한 정보처리능력이 필요하다. 이를 위해 기존의 학교교육을 벗어나 교육수요자 중심의 교육체제가 활발히 도입되고 있는 데, 그 중 하나가 바로 각 시 도교육청에서 추진하고 있는 사이버 가정학습이다. 사이버 가정학습은 시 공간의 제약을 받지 않으며 학습자들이 언제 어디서라도 스스로 학습할 수 있고 능동적인 선택을 통해 자신의 능력과 적성을 개발할 수 있는 새로운 패러다임의 교수 학습형태이다. 따라서 시대의 흐름에 맞도록 사이버가정학습의 활성화를 통해 학교교육과 사이버교육의 통한 시너지 효과를 발생시킬 수 있는 방안을 모색할 때이다. 현재 학교현장에서 실시하고 있는 사이버가정학습을 고찰하고, 앨리스(Alice)를 활용한 프로그래밍 수업을 실시하여 아동의 창의력과 문제해결력 향상에 효과가 있다는 것을 밝히고자 하며, 본 연구에서는 사이버가정학습을 활용한 프로그래밍학습을 적용한 후, 학생들의 창의력 및 문제해결력에 어떠한 영향을 주었는지 분석하여 그 지향할 방안을 모색하고자 한다.

Mountain Pine Beetle (MPB) attacked pine was evaluated for pulp quality, chemical and physical properties, and bleachability. Chemical analyses showed that the dehydroabietic acid and total acetone extractives content were higher in the year 3 (grey) attacked MPB chips and lower in the year 5 (grey) attacked MPB chips as compared to a typical SPF (spruce/pine/fir) reference. Lignin and carbohydrate content of the MPB wood chips were comparable to the SPF. Similarly, there was little difference in kappa number, pulp yield and liquor consumption between the 3 and 5 year MPB attacked wood. Likewise there was no significant difference in the resulting tear strength, burst, or tensile strength. There appeared to be an improved bleaching response in the MPB attacked pulp as compared to the SPF reference, but this was accompanied by a slightly lower bleached pulp yield and higher bleach filtrate COD and solids content.

Many people are showing interest on computing and computer programming ever as much as the smartphone become more popular. Computer programming languages, however, like Java or C++ being used to teach freshmen in computer science-related majors as the first programming language they will study are so difficult to understand. In this paper, we proposed a short-term curriculum for teaching computer programming using App Inventor for Android to freshmen students major in computer science as the first programming language they will study, which can encourage their interest in computer programming. According to survey from students participated in actual teaching, we found that the proposed curriculum can contribute to increase their interest on computer programming and even self-confidence on development of applications for smarphone.
